  1. my contractor gave me 3S brand also....act im totally noob abt it.....one of my fren even mentioned "korian"???? anyw i thk my 3S is not bad la....much better than my mum's black solid surface...which is alr full of scratches aft only 1 yr...
  2. Hi, GrandPapa. Thanks for those helpful tips, and pointers. Sorries, i dun mean to be rude, but i've read somewhere else that its quite beneficial to have a mirror in the dining room, especially if its near the dining table. The effect of the reflection, is that our food will be 'doubled'. which means more abundance of food. Perhaps you may like to clarify? ============== let me share this real life example....of a close fren of mine with the above concept...so their dining table at the end really have this mirror wall....and u look, ya its really true...everything looks double. but after moved in....few months later, hb had to leave job aft some unhappiness at work and now doing some freelance work...i thk he is happier and he gets by but money now prob not as much as previous....then 1-2yrs later, wife also unhappiness at work n resigned without a job....she felt burnt out....now also jus taking a break...not sure if any jobs in sight but its been few mths... GPP, is this situation consistent with the mirror in dining room?
  3. haha thanks bro....anyw i called shell jus now but no more promo alr...so starter kit is now at $127.50 (per 12.7kg is 32.50)..
  4. in my view telok kurau location is neither here nor there...but u pay the price of other D15 ppty... for me, i wil prefer the ones nearer to the beach and ecp....amber etc...which are going at pretty prices lately....
  5. thanks bro...will call shell tom to check
  6. din know the head so exp....but guess shd b ard there....first time package $120 = $26 per 12.7kg + $20 deposit + head costs anyw bro, shd b no difference one rite...shell, esso, union....????
  7. ya my place is done last month....but been really tied up w the buying of furniture n electricals etc so hvnt move in yet hehe ya sure let me know which part of reno pics u need, can take and show u... i thk for house age like ours (mine is also 25yrs old), most of the money is on reinstating than real renovating....we spent quite alot on the plastering....whole house incl kitchen....false ceiling here and there.....incl common toilet cos the ceiling was in very bad state...but somehow aft spending all that money, i dun get such a strong wow factor...prob becos we skipped the wallpapers, feature wall effect etc...the house jus looks new and clean tats all...haha
  8. no no mine is new house so no hose or anything yet..so need the whole package... bro, i PM you on which company u using...can share share...
  9. hi bro....i called 3 companies that i searched on the net and the cheapest for the whole "first timer" set is what u got at S$121...the other 2 are like above $150... so does it mean i hv to stick w this company all the way alr? i saw there are Shell, Esso etc etc....shd b no difference one la rite??
  10. one more thing to add: the room wardrobes look abit beat up....how old r they? i wld suggest changing them....for hygiene purposes...then jus buy those ready made wardrobes from those local funiture shops...usually less than $500 can get one decent sized alr....carpentry will easily cost 3 times more.... for kitchen, mayb u can take a look at ikea...they are having 10% rebate...outside carpentry sometimes really touch n go...i went thru 2 kitchen cabinets experience in the last yr (one for my mum hse and one for my hse)....altho the price is similar, the quality is very different....my mum one now alr can see the doors slightly misaligned...and the feel of mine is more solid...at least at ikea u can see and feel for urself before confirming...outside carpenters u prob only see catalogue....
  11. hi neighbour, my block shd b quite near u....im moving in next month... anyw for ur toilet, yes u cant shift the WC position...i thk u can consider jus building a simple kerb to separate the shower and WC area and use simple shower curtain....tat shd make ur toilet much nicer at a fraction of the cost.. also, be very careful of classified ad contractors...one thing is ur house is big and if u r on a tight budget, its very easy to exceed and may cause unhappiness w ur spouse..esp since u mentioned he alr quite unhappy w the flat price... would seriously recommend u go for contractors tat hv been used by close frens / relatives (dubious internet recommendations also take w a pinch of salt)..at least u know they wont too many pattern or hidden costs...trust me that wil really blow ur budget... if the flooring is ok, jus engage someone to chemical wash it...wil b good as new... overlay is fine as long as there are no empty hollow bottom tiles....a good contractor shd b able to test by dropping coins on it... for kitchen tiles alternative, u can consider screeding....saves u hacking costs as well as tiles cost...and ur kitchen wil look like new... do ur homework properly ya...good luck..
  12. hi any one using the above for cake baking? heard that there is a Philips cake recipe manual....but cant find it in the box. does anyone has it?? thanks alot....

  16. "The weird thing is that people in a good luck period, randomly choose a house, will be more likely to choose one that has good feng shui. while one that is in bad luck will likely to choose one that is bad feng shui. People that are in good luck will be more likely to meet a good fengshui master too. while one that is in a bad luck period will meet a lousy master." grandpapa, i especially believe in this...its like when u go to a shop and u see a cheery owner, u wil b more likely to want to buy things from them. but if the opposite, the shopowner is black face, it drives customer away even tho if it is cheaper or nicer food etc. for us or pple ard my age (early thirties), my frens etc, i realised we are all kind of "stuck" in the job with no other skill set to change careers...hence i thk the unhappiness....it can b quite big cos afterall u spend 80% of ur waking hours at work...there are pple who fly, while the other side wil b pple who slog hard but do not get recognition...its sad but its very common..
  17. hi Grandpapa thanks for sharing your tips....i must say after working for some time, i realise luck really plays a big part in one life and career..... for my parents house, we used to have those big standing vase in the living room...during CNY it will be used to put ying liu...after cny it will jus be empty vase left there....what is the effect? Thanks...
  18. the link dun seem to be working....anyone else looking for clocks???
  19. hi cate, jus my word of support to you and ur hubby too. my case is similar to yours...to b honest, it has brought alot of unhappiness to me and my wife too. we are not the quarrel sort but on certain times, i was seriously at the edge of losing my temper with her. but seriously, be angry with one spouse over contractors? i thk we all know it is simply not worth it....i really hope u can look past the horrible episode and try to mend your relationship w ur hubby. come out of this whole thing stronger, look positively.....all the best ok sis....
  20. dear all, recently jus confirmed a TOSHIBA fridge...with a "2 ticks" rating and consumption of 725...size abt 380l. i guess this is slightly on the higher end of consumption...as most other similar sized that i saw are abt 600+ consumption. act my 1st choice is the SHARP SJT-43 (???) - the metallic chio looking model but too bad it is too wide for my fridge base. so in the end got the TOSHIBA. jus wanna ask for fun is the electric rating a concern during your purchase decision? or its a "fridge consumption no big difference, if its aircon its another matter" kind of mentality??? the F&P seem amazing on consumption....all ard 400+ consumption only....but at 1399, its out of my budget....
  21. thanks to vicenzo and bro for your replies.... ya im considering casing too....but may hv to DIY.....sianz..
  22. this is a burning question i have since coming across TS post the first time, "what is ice making function"? doesnt all fridge come with ice making?
  23. hi kewin, really sorry to hear abt your reno....mine was not any better. it also brought both me and wife (first time owners) alot of stress and unhappiness. my case was quite similar to yours...delay and delay, keep asking for money - even 500 also try with all kinds of stories. seldom meet me up - meet only when want money. cut alot of corners. also no hdb licence (he said he do more pte ppty). like u, when we hv paid up much more than the real works, we had no choice bt to keep hoping he wil honour his words and keep giving him chance. because one word: no choice. there was a breaking point for me...i was away for work for 2 weeks and we agreed that during that 2 weeks he wil dutifully carry out the remaining works so that when i am back the house will be almost done. (tat wld make it 3 months since he held keys to my house). during tat time, i wil not be calling him, he jus do his part. but in the end, i thk everyone can guess....absolutely zero works! even the note i pasted on the wall for him was still there. the house has been untouched for tat 2 weeks. at tat pt i knew its pointless to hope anything from him already, called him and told him calmly (i had once out of frustration and countless fruitless trips to my house to see nothing was done during the day, shouted at him over the phone) that i will get another contractor. the few k extra that i paid him i treat it as a lesson learnt....few pple i spoke w told me its almost quite hard to get it back liao.. anyw the most impt lesson i learnt is not to let such nonsense affect ur relationship w ur family, wife etc....for me, i hv to admit it did affect my work abit....try to look past the reno bro...
  24. dear forummers, my room windows measure: Length: 1.7m Height: 1.1m im doing half length..i wonder how the curtain person measure and came up with 10metre of cloth needed for this window. im jus doing normal type of curtain (the double fold type).. can experts tell me if 10m cloth is correct for my size of window?? seriously i thot it wil be only maybe 4m of cloth (1.7m X 2 - for the double fold) hehe.... thanks in advance for any help...
