Wow, that's a good price. Hmmm... I bought a Giman kitchen island from the as-is section for $20. I wonder if I can use this underneath (upside down, so the door opens downwards).
-
True, except for the 155-degree and 170-degree 0-protrusion hinges. For those, there is a different blumotion er... part. It's called "Blumotion for 170-degree & 155-degree (0-protrusion) hinges" It's the third item listed in the following page: http://www.doorsandfittings.co.uk/acatalog..._Blumotion.html FYI, I have Blum's price list as a pdf document. If anyone's interested, leave me a pm and I'll email it to you. If you purchase from the dealers, you should be able to get about 20% off Blum's list price.

Does the cabinet frame include the hydraulic arm? Or is that a separate purchase? Or is it bundled with the door for the cabinet frame? Er... I hope I'm not asking too many questions.

Someone mentioned me? For the info of the others here, I called the three dealers, two gave me quotes which were lower than Blum's list price, the other just sent me Blum's price list. Of the two, Viborg said they could deliver and their price was slightly lower. So I ordered and everything was delivered to my place. I've gotta add, however, that it's not like a regular delivery of furniture or fittings. It was one of the guys from Viborg (Zixiang) who drove over in his car... and he forgot to bring his trolley... so the two of us had to carry the stuff from the nearest porch to my place... and up one floor. I didn't realise 18 drawers and 7 hinges could weigh so much!
-
Glad to hear that. Hope they're as good with our delivery on Sunday.

There's a small Shop & Save near the market. There's an NTUC at Tiong Bahru Plaza. There's another NTUC at one of the blocks at Beo Crescent. And there's a Cold Storage at Valley Point. And if you walk through Redhill Close and cross Jalan Bukit Merah, there's a large NTUC near the Bukit Merah market.

My wife's comment when I showed her the pix you posted was, "Design & build? Why did HDB use such horrible tiles and fixtures in the bathroom?" It's good that you get exactly what you want, especially since you're planning on staying there long term.

It's good that your ID is taking care of stuff like that (and receiving your deliveries while you're away). In our case, the acid wash was done and everything was looking really good. But there was other work done the next few days... which resulted in dust. We figured we should sweep and mop the whole place to make sure it was clean before the flooring was installed.
-
Cool! We're new to the area too. Will have to take time to discover the little nooks and crannies, I suppose. Are you all packed and ready to move? Hope it goes smoothly.
-
coffee, at least you only have to pay for one place. I have to pay for TWO! My current 3-room and the 4-room one we'll be moving to next week.

Hi Sue, welcome to RT. I've gotta say the pre-reno state of your place seems a whole lot better than many of the others I've seen here, including mine. Here's to a smooth transformation of your new home from what it is now to what you want it to be.

Hi catseyes, thanx for the compliment. We used Ikea's recommended installer. It's interesting that when I went down to their little office at the Alexandra branch (near the delivery counter), the card I was given said "Citiart Pte Ltd", but the email from the person I spoke with was from an "@powerdeko" address. And the installers all wore "power deko" t-shirts"... but I was asked to make the cheque out to "Citiart". I guess they're related companies? Do you need to clean and mop? I don't know, really. We just thought we'd do it cos our floors were kinda dirty and we didn't know if the installers would clean up first before laying the floors.
-
Thanx. We really have to do lots of cleaning. Everything was looking quite ok after the flooring, but after the installation of the solid surface and completion of electrical and plumbing works, it's a mess!
-
Hey Danny, that sounds like too much work for one person. At least with our place, there were two of us... and this Saturday, we may have a third cos one of my wife's friends has offered to help us clean up.
-
Poor tiler! Thanx for bowing to the pressure and posting the pictures. I find it nice to see the process of change rather than just before-after comparisons. Please keep the pictures coming.

Actually, we won't be able to fully unpack cos the pole system wardrobe (Opsh) will only be installed by December 30. So we'll have to live out of boxes for a little over a week. BTW, your place is looking good, including your kitchen floor, which looks really clean! Ours is looking rather messy and dusty after the work this week. We'll have to spend Saturday cleaning up again to make sure it's in decent enough shape for us to move in on Tuesday.

Hi Mickey, no worries. We initially were looking at black, but we were advised against it cos scratches apparently are more obvious with dark surfaces. Plus we didn't have that full list of colours to choose from. Apparently, not all are available in Singapore. So we ended up choosing something we hope will turn out nice. I guess I'll find out later today. The top was supposed to have been installed yesterday, but it wasn't. When Andy called them to check, he was told that they would do it this morning. I hope they've done cos it's gone get busy later with the completion of electrical and plumbing work and touch up of painting tomorrow.

There are just too many rules about what we can't do without a license that "D-I-Y culture", even for simple stuff that doesn't require a license, is stifled. Ossify, yours is one t-blog I check daily. If I were wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you. If I had more time and if my renovation weren't nearing completion, I'd wanna try what you're doing (inspired by you, of course). Keep the updates coming. Here's to a smooth and painless renovation of your place.

Hi chipee, that sounds like a smart way to buy. Now that my wife and I are moving to the general area, we could try the same thing.
-
Awwww... you're depriving your faithful readers of the pleasure of vicariously witnessing the transformation. A few "work-in-progress" pictures would be nice.

Hi Annjoy, I agree with the others... $2k is way too much. I just had a look at what I'm paying. We had the original entrances to both the toilet and bathroom (they were two separate spaces) sealed up, the wall between the two demolished, a wall between the bathroom and what was an alcove demolished, and a new entrance created... and the total was $720 (plus the cost of a bi-fold door).
-
Hey Danny, same here. In fact, I just arranged with movers yesterday. Next Tuesday shall be our moving day! That will give us two days to unpack and settle in before friends come over for dinner on Christmas eve.
-
Hi chipee, are you planning to use them as doors? BTW, my wife and I like the as-is section as well.

Day 33 continued By the evening of Monday, December 14, this was how our new home looked (well, you won't get to see the entire home, just parts of each room). The bedroom The entertainment room The study The living room If they look very similar, it's cos (other the living room), you can't see the walls that are painted a different colour (in the bedroom and entertainment room).

The Day the Floors Transformed On Monday, December 14, I had to be at the new place by 9am to make sure the installers had access to the flat. A few minutes after I'd arrived, opened windows in each room and switched on the ceiling fans (I figured they'd appreciate a bit of a breeze while they work), they walked in through the front door. By the time the fourth one had entered, followed by a fifth and sixth, I was stunned! Having witnessed some of the other "teams" (in quote marks cos some of them were one-man teams) of workers carrying out their tasks, I was expecting two or, at the most, three people. I soon discovered that one of them would leave for another site after briefing the team. But a team of five installers working on four rooms still exceeded my expectations by some margin. No wonder they were confident they could finish within a day. This is what they installed - Ikea's Kvist veneered bamboo flooring. We picked it up for a bargain during the sale in July cos it's discontinued. When I dropped by at lunch time, they were about halfway through the task of laying the floor boards. By early evening, they'd competed installation of the floorboards, skirting and t-profiles (at door ways), trimmed the front door and were sealing up any gaps and covering the little holes left behind by the nails they had driven in to attach the skirting to the walls. Pretty soon, our floors (and the rooms) took on a whole new look (I'll post pictures in the next post).
