  1. Thanks, butterfingerzz. We find it very cool too. We stole the idea from some ID firms' websites . By the way, does anyone have any comments for the desgin? Personally I feel that the colour might be a bit too pale. I am thinking of adding some bright colours to the rim of the open bookshelves but I am not sure if that will affect the overall colour scheme .
  2. Hi butterfingerzz, I viewed a flat with identical layout to yours when I was searching for mine. It is quite near to Pasir Ris MRT. We did not get it eventually because the owners were asking for quite a high COV. All the best to your reno
  3. I have been following this thread quietly because I can't think of any good advice for the poor victims of Ah Soon. I agree with some of the bloggers here that the chance of getting anything out of Ah Soon is extremely slim and it is best for those with incomplete reno work to look for other contractors to complete their work. The money lost probably cannot be recovered anymore, but that's life. Sometimes misfortunejust fall on us and we just have to accept them. To all the victims, maybe you can look at the brighter side - if you are doing reno now, you probably bought your flats before the property market went crazy in July/August, which means you saved quite a bit in buying your house already. For myself, my WTB and myself decided to get married in June, but somehow we delayed till late August to start looking for flats. By then, many 5 room or larger flats in Tampines were asking for more than 40k COV. We eventually got our current flat at 25k COV which I think is quite low already. But when I check the June to August HDB resale price, many buyers were paying below the valuation then. Hence, while it is unfortunate that you guys are in this predicament now, you are probably still luckier than many other people who are looking for flats now. I wish all of you good luck and hope you get over this unhappy experience very soon.
  4. Thanks to the very nice owners of our future house, today we went there with our designer Kennedy and his boss James to take measurements. We are very happy that James says that the upper hanging kitchen cabinets within the new store/maid's room can be salvaged. The owners have also instantly agreed to sign the indemnity form so that we can submit our hacking requests to HDB early. They are also thinking of shifting out by end Jan, which means that my reno can start earlier Kennedy also email me the 3D pics that he has completed so far. Finally got something to show . The kitchen and bedrooms will have to wait for another week. Study: Living Room: Dining Room: According to my ID, I need to choose sofas of lighter colours and have straighter edges to match the design theme. This is quite a problem because we were initially looking at recliners that have high back and think cushions all over because they provide the best comfort. So it seems that comfy and aesthetics are mutually exclusive Can't wait to see the other pics.
  5. Hi, does anyone know what is 'rebonded' leather? I saw one recliner sofa set at Novena and the sales lady told me that it is made of rebonded leather, which means recycled leather. Has anyone used such sofa sets before? Is it durable?
  6. I prefer the second one, though I find the white colour of the TV console doesn't blend well with the rest. Actually both are nice
  7. Hi Crystal, welcome to renoblog. I am also new here. To post a pic, first upload your pictures to photobucket (www.photobucket.com). You will have to register for an account with them first. Once the picture is uploaded, click the "insert image" button in the post window. You will be prompted to input the link. Now go to your photobucket album and copy the link under the IMG code and paste it here. The link should be bounded by "" on both sides when it appears in the post window. You can preview to check that you are successful. You can also click here to learn more. Hope this helps.
  8. We signed our reno contract with Earnest Interiors today. After Kennedy's modification, the quotation still exceeded our revised budget of 60k by more than $500. After some discussion with my WTB, we decided to call his boss James directly to ask for a further discount. This is the 3rd discount that we ask for. James was very accomodating and he promised us that he would discuss with Kennedy again. 2 hours later, he called to tell us that he will round the final sum to 60k, which is the amount that we are prepared to pay. So we signed the contract I am not sure if 60k is a reasonable price or not. But as some bloggers here have pointed out, the most important thing is the reno process must be smooth and happy. We believe we have made the correct choice
  9. Hi all, "lihsin" will change to "SGK" from now on. "lihsin" is my WTB's userid as I experienced some difficulties when I registered earlier. I have now managed to create a new account using a new email address and so I will post using my own account from now on
