Tiles? Laminate? Or Spray?
gimz63251073 replied to hzleaf's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
depends on your budget actually. spray paint looks flaky and i doubt its nice to use for bedroom. laminates cheaper than tiles. waterproof in living room, should be ok unless you have pets who like to do their business around or small kids who spill their drinks. Can always go laminate shopping to collect samples to test out their resistance. -
yeap i saw their system @ IMM before. damm solid, i think can survive longer than me.. for those with deep pockets only though. alternatively use those commercial grade ones would suffice, those people utilise the kitchen many many times more than an average household.

haha! i think jaskel had a more pleasant spray painting experience, you can check with him ba. cement screed for wet areas not good ba, floor may crack easily and you might have alot of problems with your neighbours below. unless u live on ground floor. if not try cement lookalike tiles ba..one ID even told me that got people use metal sheet as flooring.

good! if we listen to their advise, our homes will end up looking exactly like theirs! (usually not nice, ) yours is private property? looks huge!

Was looking for bed base and found exactly what i was looking for: $197 from Beds.sg. Wrapped using synthetic leather. The legs should allow Roomba to go in to work. Wonder if anyone has bought things from there before? Not so comfortable with buying a bed base without even seeing or feeling it.

hectic week for us. Long week end but we both ended up totally shagged out. Ronald, seng and plumber came and sorted out most of the mess created. Work done: MBR MBR sink and shower done up finally. MBR cabinet moved to left aligned no choice, thats the best they could do. Fixed up a kerb to keep dry area dry. Kitchen Fixed up the kitchen hob (silicon to kitchen top) touch up lousy silicone work done to kitchen sink done previously Fixed up tap @ kitchen for washing machine Common toilet Fixed up the slanted common toilet sink. (Using white cement, which looks yellowish). We too tired to say anything, shall try to diy something later to enhance the look. Changed the drainage pipe, looks neater i guess? Summary: New plumber is better than the one yesterday. Would be hard to find a lousier plumber, Seng see his work also shake head. But i believe got better ones la, he came in holding a cigarette, i see liao also sian. Best thing is he threw cigarette butt down the chute! Common sense is definitely uncommon. Haii...watever la, as long my stuff are up. To give him some credit, he is actually quite efficient. Ronald and Seng also responsive to our complaints, i guess he sensed the urgency due to the way baby described the previous plumber. Our works are generally straight forward, so i remain puzzled as to how come we always have to rectify things. Isn't it better and more efficient to do it once, do it correct, collect $ and move one? Thankfully, ronald did not shun any responsibility, guess we can take comfort. We did painting works to touch up the electrical casings and we were totally shagged out after that. Took out lots of junk and threw it away, Robina coming on Wed. YAY!!

hack and retile should be more expensive. Overlay might be cheaper or around the same though. But tiles comes with grout lines, we are trying to keep our house as maintenance free as possible. It has some advantages over retiling. just get a better plumber, or simply spray paint it last.

on a happier note, we painted the plywood using the Matex paint, gave it 3 coats, look much better now. Planned to touch up the casings as well.

misaligned rack and clothes hanger @ common toilet. Slightly only, acceptable on first glance. But this is just the begining. Rack only got 2 hole, but he went to drill another hole. Would be ok for most people, but we had sprayed our tiles and told him very clearly NOT to drill wrongly. Now that there is a hole, i wonder what we can do to it. Putty it? 2nd mistake: shelf is crooked, not screwed tightly enough, till it is actually downward slanting. No effort at all in doing his job, just put there and didn't even check whether its properly secured. The biggest thing that make my blood boil. The slanted basin. How can a basin be installed slanted?? its so obvious that even a kid would know the difference. Look at the side below the shelf, its so slanted that no matter how chin chye i am, i will not accept this nonsense! Will take a pic with a leveller tomolo. Plumber said he has no leveller. How can a plumber work without a leveller? I had thought that any works that required drilling and installation would need a leveller. Even if he did not have a leveller, using the measuring tape as a ruler would also suffice. Again, bo chup attitude.

do check the nea website for the annual consumption costs. Assuming a fridge lasts 5 years, the cost savings may or may not be significant, it really depends. That is of course assuming that the estimation by nea is accurate. fridge ah...look around more? white should be easy to find mah?

precisely! how could anyone take so long to install the accessories??? i cannot understand as well! i even confidently told baby that "he would surely be done by 2pm lar, who the **** take so long to put those things up?" "taps, basins, shower stuff, racks. chop chop can finish one la" i recall my uncle setting up those stuff for my house, he even install 2 photo frames for us as well. All done in 2 hours! i was so wrong! photos to be uploaded shortly...on its way to photobucket le...

FOC chairs we got from baby's office. They wanted to throw these away and we grabbed 6 for ourselves, 6 for baby's mum and Ronald from designer house got like 20+ pieces and a few tables! We plan to upholster it and got an idea to paint it in various colour to liven up the place. Testing the paint here in a unobvious spot. Yellow looks great! But the paint really stinks!

Got our fridge @ $869 (include delivery) from Licence to Play fair - swopped free gifts for discount. Initially wanted the samsung fridge but decided to spend a bit more to get a slightly bigger one since cost difference is little and it comes in silver! Baby then asked the sales guy for recommendation, saying we want a front load washer around $300plus. Sales guy say ok and showed us this. Was glad that baby asked. We got the display set @$399 inclusive of delivery. feel that its a good buy, though sales guy said that the display set will be there till end of the fair. Confirmed with him that initial 2 years warranty cover everything. Motor comes with 10year warranty. The one hour traffic jam to get into expo area was really quite worth it still. The house is starting to look livable.

unpainted pipe staring at us as with all painters, back of pipe = cannot see = never paint: MBR toilet - pipe area:

an update on spray painting: some parts of pipes are not sprayed properly, alot of wall tiles are not done up properly also, i.e. epoxy sprayed unevenly. As we were at EXPO, we dropped by to complain to the boss. He had a shocked expression, and told us that all walls n pipes are supposed to be coated with epoxy and should be smooth. Also told him that his workers damaged our ventiliation fan, he told us he will look into it. Good thing that he was quick to respond. 20mins later, his colleague called us to arrange for touch up works on Sat. Hope will touch up swee swee... on a happier note, we got our washer n fridge from EXPO today. Super crowded at expo, scores of vehicles were parked illegally along the roads, all the way to industrial areas! My first encounter of such a crowded expo. Shall put up the buys later.

nice! i like the feel...i wonder if the original condition is tiled, will the grout lines show? white is very nice...it would be a pity if the colour does not last... -

-
bought a sofa day bed from ikea to use as our sofa..not much furnishings at the moment, plan to buy later... Air con trunking mistake by gim: Width of bedroom windows = 117cm. Should leave a 3-4cm space to put 120cm roller blind. But i happily forgot... Our half completed kitchen floor: Toilet walls: Close up. Looks abit dirty..? Took some photos yesterday, shall post it up later...shall put the before and after pics.

anyway better check with the sales person again on using it in kitchen. they can do it, but will they honour the warranty? must make them write down in black n white that kitchen laminated is covered and pray that the company don't close shop.
-
this kind of "Today only" offer all BS one la. next time u go expo again, she sure give u same price this laminated flooring industry is so competitive, no need to feel sad, sure got better offer elsewhere. just shop around, anyway expo always got this kind of events. When i went to shop for mattress, everyone also say the same thing..."Today special". End up every weekend i open up the newspaper also got promotion...

i think i have a plan to "zhng" that area so that we can put the 120cm roller blind there. Should be not that hard. gim PLANNED to be able to sleep there on 5th June. technically, still have to bring a mattress and pillow over.... i think my major screw-up is not asking them to help silicon the area between wall and casing at our WIW..
