  1. hahahah.. his hubby worse than me liao like that... at least i 1ft. kkakaka.. see lah.. nowadays women so dominating in the house. so scary... tt's why i put efforts in renovating the study room as well. becuase it may be my frequent sleeping room when my wife chases me out of the master room if she angry with me... hahaha.. contigency plan!
  2. if u not hacking the kitchen wall tiles, then dun bother hack away the tiles behind the cabinets bah. dun make sense to hack away something which eventually will be covered up. waste $$$ to hack. furthermore, if in future u wanna remove the cabinets, then the affected wall areas will be botak. very ugly.
  3. yaya, agreed. at least when we take own sweet time selecting, no one will pull a long face beside us. kakaka. thanks for the comment. we want our own privacy and space, therefore baby sleeps in his own room with our maid. can close door as we on air con for baby. but cannot lock door. moreover, we sleep late becuase we watch tv, surf net and play dota. better not pass these bad influence to him. kekeke
  4. Wet towel shouldn't it be at bathroom towel rack? Put inside the bedroom won't spoil the flooring meh?
  5. haha.. of course i didnt agree with her la.. 1ft put my underwear full liao... hahaha.. but she is the queen of the house, i will let her have more space lor. since i can put my clothes in our other 3 common bedrooms' wardrobes (5ft each). hehe
  6. wow! the IP camera is good! my sis engaged specialist to install 3 cameras in her place for $2000+. i wanted to do it but 2k is crazy. reglxt, can teach me how to set up the camera network thingy part? like connecting it from iphone and etc.... sorry i noob. physical mounting on wall /ceiling i know. but come to those IT geeky part, i cmi. hehehe. i browsed thru ebay.com.sg... so many similar products for this camera. got hongkong, uk, s'pore. aiyoo.. which seller is reliable? can share ur experience? keke
  7. what happened? but 15ft still super duper big leh... my wife and i squeezing everything into our 7th wardrobe nia. she told me that she will take 6 ft, and i take 1 ft.
  8. yeaa.. tiles selection varies from couples to couples. we completed our tiles selection in 2 hours @ halfary (defu lane) without our ID somemore. he must be very happy with it. we went for safe colours (e.g. white, beige, brown) which are sight lasting that match our house theme of earth warm tone. but of course with ID ard, u can ask them for opinions /ideas to play with those mosiac tiles pattern.
  9. i also suppot for ceiling fans! have installed for living room and 3 bedrooms. the cooling effect is really nice, and it is cost saving to our electrical bills! i didnt like ceiling idea until i visited my brother's place. realised it is so useful and save space for your flooring. but i think probably tall people will have a bit of phobia i guess. haha. i'm standing at 1.76m. my ceiling for whole house is 2.6m. when i reach up my hand still cannot touch the fan blades unless i tee toes. heng..
  10. don't worry bah... just keep in mind that eventually, u will move to your OWN house. no more chasing and etc from landlord!!
  11. congrats! another fellow SDS customer. hope u will have a rewarding reno journey ahead. few things to highligh on SDS work: Good points: 1. competitive pricing; 2. good carpentry work; and 3. good ceiling work; 4. good electrical work whom they will refer you to Soon Lee Electrical (ah soon). Areas of improvement (pls monitor them closely): 1. Mansorny work (some tiling not even on wall and floor; erected walls are TERRIBLE); 2. paint work is half-hearted; 3. workers like to smoke, poo and throw rubbish at ur place. only until the 2nd last day, all the mess were cleared from my site. So, where is ur DBSS? i am surprised DBSS still need to do reno. thought everything more or less provided as it is already? what's the scale of your reno work?
  12. ur reno only stats in march. by the time u can fix curtain should be mid or end april bah. still so long! hahaha.. confirm can la. i confirmed with him on the start of thr 7th week of my reno. on the hand-over date (8th week), his guys completed the installation of all curtains le. very fast de. no worries!
  13. thanks marshmallow. yea, indeed. everytime alight from bus after work , i am practically running back. though the distance from the nearest bustop to my place is abt 400m... kakaka.. cant wait to go back and enjoy the homely feeling.
  14. waaa! ur ID stayed till so late to discuss with you ah!? he so onz. yea, if u anything also add here n there, these small small amounts of $400 to $600 can slowly snowball into few thousands de. very siong. not worth it.
  15. yea... courtesy to ossify and thattrader for inviting me to their house warming before my reno started. the moment i saw that shower shelving, i knew i am going to do exactly like his. firstly, it brings convenience to me as i no need to buy accessorices rack. secondly, the erected hollow block wall help to flush with the original protuding half height wall underneath the sink, so that the whole bathroom wall look straight. thirdly, the recess area above the sink can put mirror and my facial wash n etc. hahahaha. both my wife and myself love this master bathroom a lot! Someone PMed me abt curtain contact. but i accidentally delete the message and didnt get your nick. anyway, here is the reply to your question: My curtain from Alvis (9-1-0-1-7-2-4-2). He is from JB, Malaysia. But his SG phone is always on, and he is very responsive to calls and sms. I paid a total of $1100 for my entire 5i unit with 5 sets of windows (all day & night full length). if u asked me, i think it was a super good deal. of course i chose the reasonable material with only 95% block out sunlight. if u want higher end (99%), the price will be steeper. His customer svc is very good too. he made a total of 3 trips for me. 1st trip to discuss and measure. 2nd trip to install all runner tracks and hooks. 3rd trip (after my general washing) fix up all curtains so that wont dirty my floor. let him know u r referred by owner from Sims Drive. Hopefully he can quote u my price. good luck!
  16. yea, i learnt a great from this fourm. just doing my part in contributing info back to new reno-ers as much as i can. =) good luck to urs as well!
  17. whether glass backing or bare tile backing depend on your laminate chosen as well. for me is also budget issue la. if not, i will like frosted glass backing. kekeke

  20. Completed Reno - Before & After (Part 1) As promised, here are the before and after pics. Too bad i didnt take many photos of the previous conditions, if not will have more contrast for u guys to see. My current place is pretty messy though as we have already placed a lot of practical daily household stuff ard. sooo, dun expect a WOW interior design. kekeke... Living room #01 Living room #02 Living room #3 Foyer Dining area
  21. mine is quoted $100 for the frame and of course labour to install lah. haha.. $200 chop people leh... my other lousy quotations mostly $100 to $120. dun kena chop by him pls!
  22. yeaa... stressful period to start a family... everything on the rise, but salary still no change. hahaha.. i no choice but need a maid because of my baby as both my wife n i need to work. and we are not so fortunate to have my mother or motherin-law to stay with us to help us baby sit. so, L L. my maid still on the $350+ salary. but sooner or later she will pressure me liao. then i will go pressure my boss... hahaha.. u started ur reno preparation pretty early ah. hahaha.. good for u... as u can have more time to think what you want. i will suggest u go down to those big tiling shops like halfary to have a draft idea of your tiles colour combi. most couple can spend 1/2 day to 3 days in tiles selection. since u have the time, can go down see see. most of the contractors /id firms will go to these tilers.
  23. ya ya.. hdb original one. made of steel. they are hard to paint and may be slanted against the floor. i dunno abt ur door frame condition, but i only realised mine is slanted when everything is done! too late. given a chance, i will just replace all. see if u can ask ur id /contractor to foc or at most $80 to $100 each bah.
  24. thank you all for the good wishes. even now when i am in office now, my mind is thinking about my new home and writing down my shopping list! haha.. hafiizh, i am glad that my reno journey has given you some needed boost in confidence in your upcoming /WIP reno. when i was doing my reno halfway last few weeks, the end of journey was always blur and dark. every time when I saw the ID's face, i feel like whacking him. but on the very last moment during handover, all hard feelings were gone. although there are still small minor things to touch up, generally the place is a good living condition as compared to my previous rented room. bare with me for this week as i need to decide which ISP or internet plan to go for. Also to unpack stuffs and move in new furniture. Tentatively, i am thinking of getting M1 Optic fiber plan of 10mbps @ $59/mth + $2/mth for the residential gateway rental. anyone using optic fiber plan current? good or not? or i should stick to conventional and stable network like ADSL or cable. still hard to believe that the previous owner's house is entirely gone! or may i should say 99% gone because i reused 2 of his door frames which i truly regretted. hahaha.. just $100 each i also wanna save, now one of the bedroom wall and floor laminate were slanted because of old hdb slanted wall. lesson learnt. =p Meatime, i'll try to create a before-after pics of my place asap. stay tune!
  25. hahaha.. thought your id kena whack by you and eventually gave u this headboard! i was quote $350 for my headboard for the size 1.5m length by 60cm height. but i dunno the designs yet. probably i go find le then ask carpenter do. if not, later give me someting like urs i will faint! hahaha
