Hi guys, something to share since i am feeling a little bit in the office counting down to knock off for the weekend !!!! I was speaking with my friend the other day, who is going to renovate his place at bedok recently, his ID told him the renovation fee in is going to increase in the coming one month due to the earthquake from japan. He also said this is going to happen globally for japan is buying to rebuild their terrible damages, he assumed the cost will be increased another 20% at least in the coming month. Both of us are doubt, is that true?

I roughly know them from the TV show called "ban wan da ying jia" hosted by li guo huang and the fellows. They seem quite ok and friendly, but the price is slightly expensive than the other renovation company. In term of design, i think is just so so to me from the show, maybe i just don't like the way the design colourful for kitchen and living room. hehe... good luck!

Are you looking for design firm or contractor company? If you already have the idea what you want for ur house renov, then get a firm who offer good workmanship, if you are looking for design idea, get a good design firm with good workmanship...

I agree with january, most of the id firm offer renovation works at the same time with the design concept. i know few of the firm charge min 8k for design fee. read more magazine!

Depend on the scale of your house, as well as your design expectation. From what i know condo is 5k to 8k, and terrace house can up to 10k offer from some firms. Good luck.

I go across a lot of my friends, somehow we talk about fengshui for house if we would have to list the priority, fengshui (even though the design is not what you desire) or own desire design first? I find fengshui and design is conflicting to each other most of the time...

I will buy landed, i love to have backyard and front yard. If i would have to spend, i would like to make good or even design the frontage to resell it.

If you are free and familiar then you do it yourselve, otherwise please get urself contractor or id. Trust me, renovating is a tiring job, i tried before for my place, so stress !

Before i done my house, i spent 3 days to browse on yellow pages, there are more than thousand id in the market. So i ask myself am i looking for design wise or budget retricted? I found that there's different hieraghy of design firms in the market, some are real professional designers who provide proper design consultancy. And there are some contractors who also call themselves as ID, these ppl normally offer package but design is weak. Tell you my experience while i was hunting mine, the guy who serves us used to sell us toilet bowl in balestier !!! Presentation is weak, he spoke like a saleman in the market and kept pushing us agressively to sign the contract. So, ask yourself before you do your research.

I don't believe in FOC item, is a sale strategic to get you to sign with them, normally this is where hidden cost come from, i experienced so you better be aware carefully.

Marble is nice but not as easy to maintain like granite! Depend how you design the table, and the marble u choose. I have one at home, i am loving it

Btw, how to you define good and bad fengshui master?! but i believe there's a lot of the illegal master...

I think you should bring down your choice based on your first consideration, price or design? Then ask them if they can show you one of their completed house to check their workmanship!
