  1. You can try J& S at parkmall...
  2. I think there is a difference the examples you have mentioned. The US Brand cotton shirts mentioned 'made in bangladesh' right? Now, suppose it was labelled ' Made in USA' but the country of origin is Bangladesh... then this would clearly be a case of misrepresentation, its cheating...
  3. In my opinion, if you are concerned about energy savings then you should go for instant, since you only turn it on while using. Storage heaters need to be turned on for longer duration. Having said that, other factors to consider is - if you really want to enjoy your shower, ie. using a rain shower where there is heavier waterflow, you might want to consider storage. Storage heaters can give you larger volume of hot water. If you have a false ceiling it is more aesthetically pleasing to hide the storage heater and you wont have ugly pipes visible.
  4. I have used the MHI... so far very good and quiet. Power consumption is also reasonable. I think Starmex is more commercial, more publicity, so you pay slightly more.
  5. They sell it at most hardware shops like homefix, self-fix and some supermarkets.. for e27 philips got a wide range... if I am not wrong '827' is warmer... so better to get a higher number.
  6. Does anybody know that there are manufacturers who shipped China made products to Italy and then re-exported, claiming it to be 'made in italy'... is this legitimate?
  7. Personally, I feel that blinds are better for controlling the sunlight. Wooden blinds and shutters can also add to the aethetics of a house (google: plantation shutters). On the contrary, Curtains can help soften the feel of the room. If you have the budget, why not use the 2?
  8. Looks like posting on this Thread is working. We should spread the word around, so consumers have an avenue to fight back.
  9. I have also heard Chengal is most widely used for outdoor decks and trellises. However, recently I came across this type of Okan wood that is used to built ships and the grain is so much nicer. Did some research and found out that Okan doesn't rot and super hard... only worry is that will it split
  10. I think if you had signed the sales agreement with Furniture Club without specifying in words, it will be very difficult to fault them since they have covered themselves. I think it is always good to put down all your terms in writing and not just verbally.
  11. I am currently looking at doing a timber deck for outdoors. I was recently quoted the same price for Chengal and Okan wood. Apparently, Okan is a Marine wood and is highly resilient to weather. Furthermore the grain is much more beautiful than Chengal. Does anybody have any experience with this type of wood?
  12. Is it suppose to be stainless steel? If it is, then it's not suppose to rust. Unless of course they chrome plate the mild steel.. in this case it willl rust if the plating is not done well. But like you say, for $2k, they should at least give you stainless steel.
  13. Yup, th problem about the good ones, very heavy, so its very difficult to draw it up, unless you want to leave it down most of the time. Mind if you share your contact with me?
  14. Thanks. You did your own installation?
  15. Went down to check with Sim Siang Choon and Nan Wah, the prices were all above 12K for 4 Pax. And I find the staff not very helpful. Checked out this company called sovereign M&E services that sells HOT SPRING hot tubs from NZ. Price is about the same, except manufactured in NZ instead of Singapore or China. They also provide 8 quarterly maintenace services. Any other recommendations?
  16. I was looking at some wooden blinds in home decor magazines and found them to be very nice. Does anybody ever used them, can share if where to get really good quality ones? Also, are the thinner blinds better or the thicker ones? Thanks.
  17. I think if they are using solid burmese teak wood and genuine stainless steel, then the price you mentioned is very reasonable. I used to buy teak furniture more than a decade ago and dare say that the quality of the teak is not the same. For that kind of price, I have seen some shops using only veneer, and the stainless steel is actually chrome plated mild steel. Better to buy from more reputable shops - its definitely worth the investment.
  18. I bought some teak furniture from Leon, its a furniture shop at East Coast road. They were nice to re-oil the finishing before delivering it to my place. I got the items the same day I bought and price is reasonable. They are located near Siglap Kopitiam...
  19. The problem is not everybody is aware of this forum... My parents were interested in buying from Furniture Club. I had trouble convincing them of all these complaints about Furniture Club on the forums. There are many who do not have ample knowledge and believe that they are paying premium for Made in Italy furniture. Recently, Da Vinci got into a terrible mess. They were held accountable by the Chinese press for passing off China made stuff as made in Italy. I think this has helped errant China retailers from misrepresenting their products. We need consumer watchdogs to be more proactive in Singapore.
  20. I honestly feel that the Furniture association, or CASE or whatever association should do something about this. Otherwise, consumers will suffer. I would not consider this anything less than cheating, and it is a criminal offence.
  21. No banks will use SOR from now, doesn't make sense since it dip below 0..
  22. I think the rule of thumb is to spend about 2 months rental on the furnishings. Honestly, if you spend abit more, buy better stuff, you impress the tenant. Firstly, you can get better rent, and secondly, faster to rent out. if you can't get tenant for 1 month, thats, 50% of your budget already. Buying good furniture and appliance also means it can last longer, so you can even use for 2-3 tenancies...
  23. Do you know why if you eat Hor Fun, Fried Rice or Hokkien mee, it always taste better in a hawker or coffee shop? Because their wok has a super big fire! The heat brings out the taste lah..
  24. I just went to a furniture fair in JB, KSL city. Alot of furniture exhibitors were selling full leather sofas for less than S$1K. Apparently, another shop told me they were infact selling bonded leather, which is much cheaper type of recycled leather. I am really wondering if there are any way at all to differentiate real leather from fake leather... any experts out there?
  25. That kind of price today... wow, loss making project, unless of course they cut corners. Better spec everything carefully.
