  2. Sorry to hijack, but since you all so familiar with JP, who was that funny JP that dressed up as 'cai shen ye' at Chinese Garden for a wedding? I remembered his speech was also quite entertaining...
  3. I dun understand how come if your dad is alone then you can let him stay, but if he gets married then he cannot stay? Since both of you already got kidney problems with or without the new wife, I don't think that is the problem, right? Are you worried about the relationship, need to support his wife also, etc? Money can be settled, perhaps ask your dad or his wife to share your utilities, cook/buy food, etc. Relationship-wise, have to try mah. After all its family. Qualify with your dad from beginning, say that if try staying together cannot work then he got to move. If you chase them out without even trying, things might even be more sour, then you next time totally no need to see your dad liao. Do also think about your dad; does he have anywhere to go? At 63 if he is not already working, I don't think he can find a decent job now. Can the wife support him then? If they cannot survive on their own and you insist that they move if they marry, then isn't it the same as not allowing your dad to marry? Unless your dad wants love dowan bread...
  4. Sorry for the late post! CNY Gathering 2009: Renotalk + Facebook
  5. Spam chop from me!! See that your reno is progressing well...good luck!
  6. I won't recommend to get a design and give it to your contractor to do, because other than high costs, there will be problems in coordinating. Alot of decisions are made on the ground, eg floor is uneven or wall is slanted, then the ID and their contractors got to adjust the designs on the spot.
  7. Hi guys! So happy to see that our gathering pulls thru so well, and we managed to lou hei together and take that 'class photo'!! Can't thank you guys enough for your participation; this is a good start for the new year and I hope we can bond closer and closer for many years to come! (After all we have to stay here for at least 5 years, isn't it?? Hehe...) I don't have alot of photos, but the class photo is on facebook already. Will try to upload here as well...
  8. Next August, as in Aug'2010?? If you mean coming Aug'09, well yeah I believe a 'save the date' postcards or simple phonecall would be great.
  9. I would suggest that you read up on HDB official website (www.hdb.gov.sg) to find out about the procedures, recent transacted prices in Hougang, etc. Also check out the newspapers and go view more properties before you commit. Agent is always secondary; they are merely a tool to help you in your paperwork, legwork and negotiation. At the end of the day, my advice is not to take any agents' advice and always make an intelligent decision based on your own research.
  10. Forgot to add this: The food will arrive at 7pm, and it will be placed on the corridor, which is airy. So try not to be too late otherwise it might get cold...
  11. Check out http://app.rom.gov.sg/internet/index.asp and you can see the Latest Solemnisation Date.
  12. You just don't get it, do you? You want to talk about market price, try comparing the same size private apartments in the same area; from private resale to developers to HDB. Can you find an apartment lower priced than HDB? And you call the HDB's resale price as market price? Com'on! HDB resale is not market price, its subsidised right from the beginning, you know it! Anyway, its not about money, just because you got money to buy without a grant does not entitle you to buy. This is public housing, built on public soils, funded by public money from taxpayers' coffers, for Singaporeans and PRs only. Hope you can understand that.

  15. Sometimes we just need to understand the basis of regulations to find that they are not as ridiculous as we think. HDB does not allow non-PR to buy a flat simply because they want to protect the citizens; public housing are meant for Singaporeans with a proper family nucleus, and I fully agree with that as a Singaporean. With that understood and fulfilled, nothing is impossible and yes, we can always bend the rules. However the onus of the matter is on you to PROVE to the govt that you do not have ulterior motive, etc and sincerely want to settle down in Singapore with a roof over your head. For that matters, I know HDB do allow Singaporeans and PRs to defer submission of ROM certificate after the sales completion, but not so sure about non-PRs...
  16. Ya same here! Since I started driving, I had never even once vacuum my interior... So Andy and me will wash exterior, while TYM will do all the interior himself!! Haha...so its a plan!
  17. Bungalow is one house standalone all by itself; the legal term is called "detached house". Which brings me to the next term, semi-detached, or "semi-D" for short, simply means the bungalow cut into half so becomes two houses. Real luxury bungalows are called Good Class Bungalows (GCB), which must have a MINIMUM land area of 1,400sm and above, while the bungalow itself can only be two storeys high. There is no such thing as good class semi-D, in case you wondering... Terrace houses are a stretch of houses all joined up together, those in-between are called intermediate terrace or "inter-terrace" for short, while those at the corner of the stretch are called "corner-terrace". Inter-terrace has two faces (front & back), while corner-terrace has three faces (front, side & back). Corner terraces are usually more expensive because they have larger land and build-up areas. If you throw a fence around the whole stretch of terrace houses (or a few stretches), they will be called "townhouses". Throw in a pool, a gym and other facilities with a security guard, then they become "cluster-houses". There are, though very rare, "cluster-bungalows", which means a few detached houses within a fenced compound with shared facilities and a security guard. Maybe people do not like it, since they will end up looking very similar to the chalets at NSRCC...
  18. Where got FOC water?? Hehe... Good idea to wash car together! I think the bay at most 2 cars la, 3 cars would be like normal parking, how to walk in-between the cars? Last time I got a bunch of guys and we work as a team; all will wash one car at one time, not just washing our own cars. Its quite fun and makes the task very easy lor...
  19. I had been using the car wash at the Caltex station after Anchorpoint (Caltex and Shell are side-by-side). They are quite popular and always packed during peak hours. Think mainly because they are cheap, MPV is only $8. Andy, the Esso station opposite the Caltex you mentioned has the best car wash I known in Singapore; alot of top-notch cars and people go there to wash, but they are expensive. To reach there you must travel PIE towards Tuas exit Stevens Rd; PIE towards Changi exit Stevens Rd will only let you go into Caltex. The boss is a short, beng-looking Chinese guy, behaving like an army general; you can see him shouting at his staff all the time, sometimes with vulgarities! (Maybe that's why they are good...) I also do not approve of car washing in MSCP, save for the washing bay, because it makes a mess of the place and like Andy said, its dangerous for bikes and people as well. Imagine if your old folks slipped and fell. Sorry if this sounds bad but I don't have pity for the indian carwashers because they do not look like locals to me. Foreigners are an asset to us only if they are talents or supplement our workforce, but not when they do illegal things like such car wash. I also heard of horror stories like when you turn them away, they will vandalise your car (other estates, not ours! Hehe). IMO we should complain to town council to stop this; those neighbours who are guilty of supporting such car wash should be asked to stop lor. If it doesn't work maybe town council should explore if there are any legal provision to impose fines on the car owners for dirtying the MSCP, which I think is possible since the carwashers are paid by them to work, so their wrongdoings represent that of the car owners'. No point to go after the carwashers because they will play catching with you, even if caught, they also got no money to pay fine and nothing to lose...
  20. Yeah there was another show they are doing...hehe, how did you know it was my place?? You came up to watch? Why didn't walk in to say hi?? Didn't know about the drama at Sheng Siong, though...
