Erm, what exactly is your concerns with the hollow walls? Are you worried that they will fall off, or...? Do raise your concerns accordingly to HDB, and let them address those concerns directly. If you tell HDB people that you are complaining because of the 'hollow-ness' in the walls, likelihood is they will just reply its nothing wrong.

Rainshower Equivalent - Water Pressure Issue
zirhk3355 replied to julian99's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
Isn't there any device or pump that we can install to increase the water pressure? So sianz if you realised that the original pressure to your unit is not strong enough, like my parents' place now, the shower is always a trickle... -

I meant comparing apple to apple leh, cannot bring in those hi-end four seasons park condo to compare mah. In the past, a 3-rm HDB flat in Henderson/bt merah will cost about $20k only, but 3-rm condos in the area are going for like $400k. Now, a 3-rm HDB flat there (new or old) is going for about $200k, but a 3-rm condo (eg domain 21) is going for like $600k. So that's what I meant by the price is drawing closer. And yes, I have a relative whom I used to admire because I think he quite well-to-do, staying in those private estates near town. Later then I realised he is quite poor and always came to borrow money from my parents - apparently, his HDB flat was confiscated for some reasons and barred from even buying resale. The private apt he is staying is actually very old type of condo (or private apts lah), one of the cheapest, but condition worse than a HDB flat. That's why today, I do not judge people just based on their residential address, and private estates isn't necessary an upgrade from HDB. -

Yup, very slow lor, maybe because its 40-storeys? I used to think like you too, wanting to buy a condo because it has nicer colours, better-looking external facade (eg basement carpark, etc), and so on. But later then I realised if such small things are worth the extra money spent? In terms of interior areas, worse - comparing apple to apple, condos are much more smaller. Given that the prices of condos and HDB flats are drawing nearer, its no longer a "prestige" thing to move into a condo anymore. Its more of catering to your own needs. I have seen poor people who are staying in condos (because cannot buy HDB) and really rich people staying in HDB flats (because everyday also fly, out of 10 days, 8 days are overseas). Some people choose to live in condos because of the facilities; swimming pool for the children, bbq pits for gatherings, etc., while the rest remains in HDB flats because they do not need such facilities (no children, don't like to have guests in their houses, etc) and their money can be better spent on investments or business. -

Did you get to go inside a unit to see the view? I was only looking from the corridor, didn't have much view... -
Haha, finally got a "men's talk" thread in this forum! I also loved to be an audiophile but do not have much knowledge about them. The interest stemmed from some friends who are quite into car audio, competitions and stuff, so I thought I would like something good for my home in future too. However for such hi-end systems, I believe one not only must have financial stamina, technical knowledge is also important, otherwise go to Adephi kana chopped like carrot also duno what happened. So my query: Are there any forums or discussion groups to learn more about such systems? Those brands that you mentioned, I am sure every one of them has its own good points for certain aspects, eg xx brand is famous for speakers, xx brand's amps are most popular, etc. Would you be able to give some guidelines for a newbie audiophile like me? I want to have a good but basic system, how much should my budget be and what brands can I consider? Thanks alot!

How do you enjoy the wind when the blinds are down?? Or you mean the blinds are those 'semi-porous' type, can let wind pass through? Maybe you can add some weights at the end of the blinds, so as to pull it down lor. Attach the weights on the outside for better visual...

Not true lah. If one disputing about the punishment for the offence of drink-driving, does that mean the person has potential to drink-drive? Tell your employer that when you want to resign, you already do not have heart to work and it will be better off for him not to hold you back for so long. Actually I think this works in your favour: If your probation is 3mths, the employer is stuck with the choice to either confirm you, or ask you to go. What happens if you are still not up to mark to be confirmed, but the employer likes you and believe if given more time you can be better? He will still have no choice but to ask you to go, if the probation strictly to be 3 mths only. Thus, its actually better to clarify upfront that your probation is 3mths, and possibly plus another 3 more mths if necessary, then everyone is clear. But having said that, I think in Singapore you cannot negotiate employment terms one lah; its either take it or leave it, akin you signing those mobile contracts and such, also cannot negotiate the terms one. In reality, there is only legal or illegal terms according to MOM's regulations. As long as the employer fulfill all guidelines (or managed to find the loopholes in such guidelines), I don't think they will change any of their standard contract terms just for you, especially if the company is big and the contract is drafted by lawyers.

Haha, same for me! Im going to collect my keys on 28th Mar'07 and will have to wait a torturing 5 days to 'open door' for praying. I think this feeling is like waiting for your medical results after some tests for some illnesses, cannot eat and sleep during the period...

Hi, hope to ride on this thread for another question of mine: I need to move a few furniture from my parents' place to my new replacement flat. The irritating thing is that its too far to walk but too short to drive, only about 2-min ride. Will the movers charge me the same rate, or can it be cheaper? Its only a wardrobe, a simple study table, the queen-sized bed and other personal effects packed in cartons.

If finance is tight, do consider to wait for the Dawson place lor. That was what I did in 2003 and I never regretted it. Back then, wifey and me just finished our part-time studies and we were broke too. But We managed to amaze everyone as to how come we can pay for above-average bridal shop, wedding banquet at a 5-star hotel and go for two-week honeymoon! So people who always tell me that they want to save up first then get married, I would say bull****. Sorry if this is going to sound arrogant, but I am a living example of how one can get married with 2-digit savings in the bank account. All you need is abit of planning. Okok, enough haolian liao, back to topic: Trust me, times really flies; today is already 2007 and I am getting my replacement flat, but it felt as though I just bought my SERS flat last month! The waiting time is really useful; without which, wifey and me wouldn't have been "fully" married till today, maybe ROM only. The SERS flat can be utilised for "you-know-what" to accummulate cash, not forgetting also your personal savings. Now, after we get our replacement flat, we have enough cash to renovate and move on to the next level in marriage: Hao Hao Zhuo Ren and come out with little zirhk! !!

After Renovation But Not Move In
zirhk3355 replied to mickoe's topic in Bazi Consultation by Mr Chong
Thanks alot, but its not really big - 110sqm, 5-rm flat. I liked the layout though, not those odd-shaped type. But if I can choose, I would want a short corridor leading to all the rooms. The current layout has too many doors facing the living room, make the whole space look very busy. -

Hehe, ya, bigger lor, by one panel. *sigh* Its the design lah, not the windows' panels. You can go to a condo with also 3 by 2 panels' windows, but it still look bigger. This is probably because they do not have the thick walls surrounding the windows. The slope also contributed to making the windows look smaller... !! -
Actually I am not too pleased with the contractors using our flats as 'showrooms'. I mean, not that I am selfish or what, if you ask me personally I will bring you to my flat with no qualms, but not for the contractors to do that lor. Maybe if people walk pass and ask if can go in and see, still ok - but to openly invite everyone to all the flats that was entrusted to her, not very appropriate lor. I sure won't let this Karen person do my flat for sure... Erm, I think you really got abit confused by the postings here? You asked me about the view of my flat in this same thread and I said bt timah...hehe...oops...

Eh no no, I didn't call up Master Gan immediately to ask lah. I meant I asked the same question the other day when wifey and me met him. Funny guy - he told me about New Trend (yuan zhong xiu) and Qi Yuan; makes me feel so regretful, cuz I just spent a small fortune on some items from New Trend. BTW you are in his class right? I am quite interested also... -

Hmmz, seemed like slightly different leh; my floorplan got 3 panels on each side, while this one is 3 panels on one side, 2 panels on the other. Anyway, duno lah, wonder why HDB flats always have very little and small-small windows. More windows harder to build is it?? Haiz... -
After Renovation But Not Move In
zirhk3355 replied to mickoe's topic in Bazi Consultation by Mr Chong
Just asked Master Gan on the same question. He said its not very good to leave the house empty for too long, as you need to fill it with 'ren qi', otherwise all the 'dirty' things will come in and stay. Maybe during weekdays you can engage day-time maids to clean up once or twice per week, or try to organise some mahjong/soccer/drinking/etc sessions there. -

Yes, really happy to see that I have a long corridor of my own, and no neighbours beside me...oops, sounds abit 'ku-pi', but you know lah, sometimes its really difficult if you have to face with a neighbour who does not click with you... As for the bay windows, yeah its not very good news, as I heard from another forum that contractors had mentioned we cannot even level the slope with cement due to some restrictions from HDB. At most can put plaster or wooden planks, which means cannot make into seats for relaxation. Anyway, just for the records, the windows are from a 3-rm flat, I haven't gotten my keys yet, so hopefully my windows can be slightly bigger...hehe...
