My analogy: If you are full, will you eat somemore? If you are hungry, will you do all you can to find food? Same thing for business lor. If they are not keen to give quotations, it means they have too much work on hand. No point forcing your way thru, just find someone else. BTW what kind of property you renovating? $50K is too high for a new HDB flat and also abit on the high side for resale flat. Maybe you should search more, go IMM and walk around abit or flip a few more home magazines to get quotes.

Hmmz, there were only a few residents passing by when we were debriefing at the void deck; so which one were you ah?? Next time come over to say hi!! In cars' clubs, we call people like you the "poison masters", always injecting poison into the group and make us cannot sleep at night, thinking about the modifications to do/buy. Think in renovation you are the official poison master liao...haha! -
Good question! If HDB's own words are any guide, then yes, since they pegged their new flats' prices to the market, then the new flats' prices would have increased on the same percentile as the resale flats' prices. However I am quite sure this is a number that HDB does not want you to know, hence no black and white stats on it.

Credit is a double-edged sword, no doubt. It gives a whole new definition to "living/investing within our means". While I agree that seeking immediate/initial yield is detrimental to investment management, being too conservative about interests and risks will also lead one to nowhere. As much as you can see people going down on loans and credit, there are as many others who thrive because they are able to get loans and credit. Indeed, its all about the balance and foresight. As for gold, I just read an article yesterday that reinforce this old-school investment. Precious metals had proven not to be significantly affected by the economy; you will never see gold price spiraling down as crazily as currencies or stocks. Its a solid investment simply because its a natural and limited commodity, not man-made paper value. Maybe its really time to consider it seriously.
-
When comes to investment, its not about saving interests anymore; its about how to earn MORE profits to cover such interests. If the money used to pay off the loan can be invested into another property with higher yield than the interest saved, that is really smarter in investment sense. Saving interest is not making the money work harder; its just savings lor. The definition of making money work harder means to get more yield than keeping it in the bank. If credit risk and stability are in consideration, then like above said, its better to leave the money in a FD or savings account. H*ck, even banks also can close down, MAS only safeguard us up to $20K, so maybe now should really consider buying gold bars and hide under the bed.

Besides scratching, stainless steel will also dent easily by small knocks. To me not advisable in long term...maybe just do up s/s backsplash with matching silver laminates and chrome handles for the look.

Well-said! Spoken like a true businessman. In business/life, if one only knows how to whine and complain about costs and setbacks, one will never go far. Energy is better spent on working hard to earn more money and overcome such high costs/setbacks. -

Ya I also very scared to see my bill next month... Anyway, it is even nothing that the MP can do...or what they made it appeared to be. The govt is 'privatising' so many of their d*mn functions and proclaiming that these are now commercial-driven so bo pianz, have to earn money for shareholders. This is ongoing for HDB, JTC, PUB, etc. Trace the roots and you will find that its still under the Father, the Son and the holy Goh, nothing have changed except they have now have 'valid' commercial reasons to make us pay more... -
Cannot leh, trees also got inserts and bird die up there...somemore if banana trees also got pontianaks, jialat...

Actually I also not sure if he really can go all floors; previously we did the 10-storey blocks, it already took us from 7:30pm to nearly 10pm. But hor, I will try to see if can push to 31st level and visit a black door unit... I suspect he will probably go for the lower floor units, ie the one/two-room flats where there are more needy people with real problems that need his help... -

Usually F1 races are quite boring with the cars just zooming the laps - this GP in Spore is really very different. I was watching it right where Massa pulled the fuel hose off and whip the mechanic; **** power! --- On another topic, our 'beloved' MP Baey Yam Keng is coming to visit Blk 89 tomorrow (30 Sep 08) at 7:30pm! All the respective stat boards will have their reps present, eg HDB, town council, LTA, URA, police, etc. Any complaints can direct at them thru the MP... -
Desperate Bid By Housing Agencies To Salvage Plummeting Fees

So study the regulations and deal yourself! Otherwise, be prepared to pay lor. And worse, if you are even too lazy to find out your rights, then be prepared to get cheated by the rogue agents. Yup, you are right in a way too: Generally, agents have a job simply because people are lazy. I would also say that agents have their way in manipulating us to pay them extra comm is because we allowed them to. So while I blame the rogue agents for cheating people, I actually blame the sellers/buyers even more for ALLOWING the agents to cheat them. This does not only apply to property agents, but any other middlemen/agents too. All agents/middlemen exists because they do things that people are too lazy to do themselves. But its a double-edged sword; they help you do your job and add value to you, but they can screw you up. The automotive is another example; those car dealers can manipulate the buyers simply because they lazy and ask dealers to help them. Then it had came to such a state that if you got your own COE and go buy a car, you can expect to pay more. If one day the govt says all owners must go LTA and buy their own COEs, alot of car dealers will go bust. There is no secret why the top number of complaints at CASE is always property agents and car dealers. -

I link the 2nd para with the last line; reading between the lines, this writer is mindful that convenience and accessibility come with costs. Somebody will have to foot the bill so the question is who??
