  1. Does not matter where it is produced...but plan ahead and make sure the LEDs can be easily replaced when the time comes. A lot of LED lights come in an integrated package i.e. lamp and fixture are one. So you need rip out the whole thing and buy a completely new set after a couple of years.
  2. I grew up in a flat with vinyl floor in the kitchen! It is still good after a couple of decades. Very easy to install: comes in a big roll. The floor needs to be clean & even but it feels and looks plastic though. Not sure how the "wood" design looks like but you might want to avoid that and choose a more neutral design. Avoid the glossy vinyl which feels even worse. You will need good skirting around the edges to prevent it from delaminating.
  3. We used Alan as mover. He came by for assesment & quoted us S$300 for one trip all-in! We didn't move our fridge, washer & dryer and both places were on lift floors... He supplied us with the boxes a couple weeks before the move and even brought some more later when we needed them. Packing we did by ourselves. The furniture and large items were packed by him and his four workers. On the day itself he was on time (even a bit early) and everything was moved within a couple of hours. The workers were quite gentle and efficient. The empty boxes were picked up after we SMSed him. Alan's contact 81797765/92368548
  4. I don't think Philips LEDs have a shorter lifespan... They have been doing lights for 130 years! And as a European brand they are much more customer friendly. A friend had a spoiled LED bulb (probably manufacture defect) and Philips replaced it free of charge! The only reason why shops don't like to sell Philips LEDs is because the profit margin is much lower on those... Ironically the quality is higher. BTW this sounds like a good business opportunity: to start a shop with LED expertise!
  5. Yes it is a pain to get good LED lights here in SG! In the end we went for standard halogen fixtures with warm white 3500K Philips LED replacement bulbs (shaped like halogen bulbs). These are replacable and can be changed easily. You need matching transformers too though. In addition it also a pain to get a suitable dimmer (leading/trailing edge) to match... Most electricians and shops don't even know what you are talking about!!
  6. It is probably due to the laziness of the contractor/workers: they didn't cover the floor trap up when they were working... I had the same problem in my rental condo. They couldn't clear the pipe. In the end they fixed another pipe next to it as a bypass.
  7. Personally I prefer Electrolux... European brand with long tradition in washing machines and lots of functional enhancements.
  8. If you do laminate flooring, it's better to choose a slightly more expensive one like Kronotex, Vohringer, Berry Floor, Pergo, Supreme. Those are better resistant to water and have better gaps. Really check the base material when you see the samples. Cheap, cheap laminate flooring spoils more easily due to inferior base material and top layer...
  9. We also used Kong Tai Electrical Trading in Jurong for our appliances: great price & service. They are very flexible with multiple deliveries and respond fast to e-mails: Just contact them with the model numbers of the appliances you want and they will reply with the quotation: Alice 65658970 / 65658924 kongtaielectrical@yahoo.com
  10. If your floors are still in okay condition, you can try to do an overlay on top of the existing floors & tiles. This will save a lot of $$$ as hacking is quite costly. Option could be to hack only the bathrooms... Note there are always some hidden costs even in a "simple" renovation: plumbing, rewiring electricity in kitchen, gas pipes etc.
  11. Probably do all the construction work first as this is most "messy". So a better sequence is from heavy-duty to light-duty work: installation of feature wall - laying bay window top - decking - painting - wall paper - lights - varnishing Our sequence was: Hacking wall & kitchen + toilet flooring Plumbing works Windows Kitchen & toilet floor tiles ( + Waterproof layer) Electrical re-wiring (Lighting, TV cable, network, Telephone & air con cabling) Air con installation L-box for hiding cabling & trunking Plastering + Painting whole house Acid Wash Kitchen cabinet & wardrobes installation Install lighting Doors
