  1. Using only 2 out of 6 screws seems like a terrible thing to do. To be fair to other installers who may unluckily be also Davids, better give his surname or partial mobile number.
  2. Anyone knows where to buy those industrial fans with powerful wind? I want the wall mounted type.
  3. Hi Is your stock the standard or low file models? I need at least two low profile (9.8" drop) white. Do you happen to have the low profile bamboo as well?
  4. Just saw an advert in Home & Decor Renovate 2012. The Haiku advert placed by Malaysian showroom in PJ Selangor.
  5. Do you think we can get this fan at half price from JB jjust like KDK Fans?
  6. Hi I need a combination of Bamboo & Matrix (white) low profile Haiku fans. Same price?
  7. Thanks! I wanted 7 low profile fans. But at $1135 each, I am not sure I want to spend so much. I suspect many people are put off by the new price. At this price, I can get 3 KDKs in Singapore or 6 in JB.
  8. By the way, the shop also sells lighting.
  9. I went to YES Electrical Supply this morning. Just sharing my experience. Address is 22 Jalan Serampang, Taman Pelangi, 80050 Johor Bahru. Off Tebrau Highway just after Plaza Pelangi. Not difficult to find. It's shown on Google Maps. You can call them at 07-3339900. Open 8 am to 5 pm Mondays to Fridays. Close at 1 pm on Saturdays. Price is indeed half the price in Singapore. K14Z9 (V56VK) was RM470 while K15Z9 (V60WK) was RM550. That works out to only S$188 and S$220 based on my exchange rate of 2.505. The hook was not included in the KDK box but the shop supplied it free. The shop will sell to you but will not deliver to Singapore. They are not allowed to. Warranty is not valid for Singapore. In the unlikely event of problems, the shop says to call them and they will determine if it is product or installation problem. If product, you can take down the fan and bring it back to them. Design and specifications wise, there appears to be no difference between the Malaysian and Singapore models. The shop says they are indentical Except for one thing which nobody seems to have mentioned or have a problem with. Colour. The Malaysian models come in different colors. For the above two models, they come only in Titanium Silver and no White. The blades looks grey to me. Not sure if the colour is the same as Singapore's Grey. Anyway, my better half wants only white, so I returned home empty handed. My friend bought one as he wanted Titanium Silver. GST is payable at Singapore Customs for goods exceeding S$150 if you are away from Singapore for less than 48 hours. They will check your passport to verify this. We drove into the Red Channel to declare the fan and went to the customs office. The customs officer explained that if the travelers are a family unit and the goods meant to be shared, she can allow the value to be split amongst the family members. However, in our case, she said we were not related and how can the fan be shared between the two of us? But Anyway, as the amount was just above the limit, she let us off without having to pay GST. If in doubt, it is better to declare and maybe pay just the 7% rather than risk a $10,000 fine and jail.
  10. I was told the previous distributor lost its distributorship rights and there is a new distributor. I am interested to get two of them but at $1000+, I have to think twice. I was also told by the shop it is out of stock. Hope this is a case of the shops refusing to sell due to the steep price increase, and that it will force the price to come down.

    Haiku Fan

Is this fan still on sale at Universal or anywhere else? I saw one at the IMM light shop but was told not taking orders, as no stock. Any chance can buy this fan in JB at half the Singapore price, like KDK fans?
  12. You should have just sued them to recover your deposit when they could only install 2 out of 3 units. Don't be afraid of doing so. It's bull**** when people say many have sued and lost. It depends on whether you are justified or just picky. In your case, I think you are justified. I have sued one of these shops (not aircon) at IMM before. Won and got most of my money back. Unfortunately, Small Claims Tribunal only accepts cases within one year. So, you can't sue in respect of your purchase. But the next time the shop defaults in the maintenance, just sue them. Do your homework and get all your facts and arguments right. I think no point waiting for others. There is no savings in any class action. There is no such thing before the Small Claims Tribunal.
  13. Guys, I am interested in a digital lock. For my type of door, it seems that the Samsung SHS 3420 will be more suitable, is it? And may I know what is the difference between 3420 and 3421?
  14. Hi I am changing all the aircons in my house, and I have the same problem as many of you. Which air-con to choose? I googled and found conflicting experiences for different people. Did some research and came to the following conclusions based on my own checklist. If you have any views, please share. Based on my past experiences with Daikin, Carrier, Toshiba, Mitsubishi and Panasonic, I have narrowed down to Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Electric (ME). COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE: I am told they are all made in Thailand. So no difference. All win. FOCUS: Daikin specialises in air-conditioning equipment. ME manufactures lots of electrical stuff while MHI makes just about everything from aerospace products to ships. Winner here should be Daikin. ENERGY CONSUMPTION: Was told that MHI compressor most energy efficient. Brochure claims "industry leading energy efficiency". ME, "No. 1 specialist in energy saving", should be a close second while Daikin technology is apparently a few years behind. Winner is MHI. NOISE: ME is quiet, as low as 19dB. Brochure claims quieter than sound recording studio (25dB) and empty concert hall (30dB). Noisiest is apparently Daikin. ME wins here. USER CLEANING: We have all watched the TV advertisement where Jack Neo demonstrated how easy it is to clean the ME StarMex. The others don't have this ability. One vendor claims after many times cleaning, the parts may become loose and make some noise, but this is disputed by others. I will give Jack Neo the benefit of the doubt and declare ME the winner here. FEATURES: The winner here should me MHI with all kinds of features including 24 hour ION, 3D auto airflow, self clean operation, allergen clear filter, natural enzyme filter and photcatalytic washable deodorizing filter etc etc. ME also has many features but not so many. SERVICE SUPPORT: This probably depends very much on your air-con installer and servicing contractor. Nevertheless, in the event of a failure which requires the attention of the manufacturer, I guess you can call upon either Daikin Singapore or Mitsubishi Electric Singapore. As for MHI, I guess you have to call upon Wo Kee Hong Marketing Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor here. I would put both Daikin and ME as winners here. PRICE: By all accounts, MHI is cheaper than ME, while Daikin is more expensive by a few hundred dollars. So, MHI wins here. Final score is Daikin 3, MHI 4 and ME 4. Alamak, now still have to choose between MHI and ME.
  15. Guys, thanks for the info. I will head over to JB to buy the fans. Can anyone supply the address and telephone numbers of YES Electrical Shop and Tampoi Lighting Centre. I have no idea where they are. Since I will be buying a few and will surely exceed $150, I don't mind paying the tax. Is it the 7% GST? How to declare and pay? Is there a special booth or lane?
  16. I just had my U shaped rack installed by Yee Sin. Cost me just under $500 and took them 1 hr 10 mins. My rack is relatively big at 102" (2591 mm) + 62" (1575 mm) + 58" (1473 mm) by 90" (2286 mm) height. Depth is 60 cm in the centre and 40 cm on the two sides. I also had a quote from Gawa but it is about 3 times the price. However, Gawa is using all steel and looks nicer (like library shelves) while Yee Sin looks more like factory shelves. You compare the photos on their websites and you get the idea.
  17. I need 5 or more remote controlled KDK ceiling fans. Used them at my current place. Since price is supposed to be half in JB, I am thinking of buying from there. 1. Whilst I suppose they are available at any shop there, is there a shop that is reputable and in a safer location e.g. in Pelangi Mall etc. (not that I am saying the mall is safe but at least I feel safer than some roadside shop). Don't want to come back with 5 fans but less one car! 2. Will driving back with 5 boxes of fans get me into trouble with Singapore customs? Need to pay GST or some tax?
  18. Hi. My bomb shelter store is quite big. 273 x 160 cm with 284 cm height. I want to rack as high as practical. I used Ikea GORM DIY wooden shelving system at my previous place. Loved it. But they reach only 174 cm height and Ikea has discontinued the extension & corner systems. Checked out Yee Sin & Gawa. Looks promising. Some questions. 1. When installed, do they look too industrial? 2. What are the frames made of ? Steel or Aluminium? Will rust? 3. What is the max height that can be installed? 4. For safety, such racks are normally secured to the wall. Yee Sin / Gawa will do so for you?
  19. Are you guys happy with the LED colour? For my new place, we considered LED lights for both the cove lights as well as down lights. But my wife did not like the colour of the "warm white". They look more orangy and artificial. Not "warm" as compared to T5 or halogen warm white. But if you taking white LED, seems like no problem. Also, although the LED lights consume much less electricity, does the fact that the power goes through a transformer affect the consumption and somehow negate the savings in electricity consumption?
  20. I inherited a 6 seater Monarch spa (jacuzzi) with Spa Power 1000 control panel. Still working but not looks like it has been unused for a number of years. I think I should do a one-time servicing before using it. I just want to ensure that everything (pumps, heater, filtration etc) is working fine. Anybody knows who is the sole agent or distributor in Singapore for Monarch Spas? I read from the internet that the maker closed down in 2008. Alternatively, anybody knows of any contractor who services such things?
  21. I guess it depends on individual preference. For me, I really liked my rain shower, much more than the hand held ones. But I suppose it is true that if spoil, more costly to repair or change. Just like a car. More expensive and nicer car to sit in, also more expensive to repair if spoilt.
  22. What I mean is whether the two way switch is with two way light indicator?
  23. Oh. I did not know you can have two way switches for heaters. Is it with light indicator.
  24. Seems to me you should install two separate units. Where are you going to put the heater switch? If at kitchen entrance, then main bedroom users must go to kitchen to turn on/off heater. If at main bedroom toilet door, others must enter this room to turn heater on/off.
