For a terrace house and if space permits to mount more compressors, you should give some serious thoughts to the aircon configurations. That could save you big time $$$. I like what my previous owner did Level 1: Both living and dining room are single non-inverter units. These 2 aircons we will hardly on them, hence having non-inverters are cheaper. Level 2: System 3 inverters for 3 bedrooms. Obviously they are more utilized. Level 3. Single split non-inverter for wardrobe room as that is hardly used. Another single unit for the MBR, which I changed to a system2 to accommodate the new study room.

Girls are sensory creatures. Btw that is only the first step. When the first ID returned with a quotation, it will include all the technical jargons and measurements. Eg " Design and fabricate a 7ft by 7ft TV console feature wall with PVC internal carcass and laminate finish ". I will then update my ppt with these specific descriptions and measurements. Subsequently, when the other id or contractors quote based on the revised ppt, they will all have the same line items and measurements. So viola, comparisons have never been easier.

You've added steps to your split. Good move. -
New roof is up when I checked in the evening. However i am not happy that they did not replace the obviously rusty flashing. The worker said they will paint over it but I doubt that will help. That piece is obviously rusty because it was already dented and water ponds there when it rains. Complained to the contractor who promised he will look into it.

What I did was, I created a powerpoint with details of what I want to do and where, with photos and floor plan attached. So every contractor or id I will just email them the ppt and wait for their quotations. Save my energy

The floor plan looks complicated. Is that from BCA?

That's like 8 aircons? Sounds high if you ask me. I was given a quotation of about $4.5k for a daikin system3 (other brands should be cheaper) including concealed pipings. To extrapolate, it shoud not be more than $15k for 8 aircons i supposed. You might want to check out gaincity. You can pay $1k deposit and they will send someone down to access installation cost. If you don't want to proceed after that, they will return you the $1k.

The roofing guys began the last part of their work today, ie replacing my kitchen roof. After some inspection, we have decided to change the insulation materials as well. That's another $1k out the window I see the workers carefully taking measures, cutting and laying the insulation materials before finally closing off with the new grey roof we chose. Hopefully with this done, all our roofing and water leaking issues will be a thing of the past

Day 16 (22 Aug 2012) The tiler 头手 dropped by yesterday. After his inspection, they had to hack away the whole toilet floor for the MBR toilet. Reason being the water levelling was not correct. Though a bit sim tia because the tiles were all nicely laid and grouting done already, but I am also happy that these people take so much pride in their work. I will not be able to tell the difference if they don't say anything. The tiler preparing the living room for tiling works to be carried out later today. Looking at them go about doing this, I realized how tough it was for these people to earn their money. I'd never thought there's so much prep work to be done before you even lay one single tile.

Today the ceiling guys also came and rectify the ceiling. Now it's the design we wanted, which is cove lights pointing inwards. However, we realised the whole cove area was not square as thought. After talking to the workers, we realised that there were some pipings limiting the further extension of the cove. Lesson learnt. Next time must check the pipings first before committing to a design

I agree. Their plastering always amazes me. -
Day 15 (21 Aug 2012) Another miscommunication today. When I went on site, realised that tiler had laid the living room tiles into my yard's utility room, instead of the yard tiles. ID straight away said to knock out and redo. I saw the look on the tiler's face and I really felt bad for them. All the hard work and effort to go down the drain like that. Hence after much discussion with my wife, we'd decided to leave it. But I cannot afford anymore of such heart attacks. Hahahaa Yard room with living room tiles. The wood tiles were the originally intended tiles for this room and the rest of the yard area.
