  1. After much inspection by various parties, we concluded that the tower rack could have drilled into the drainpipe. The location is very near to where the pipe runs down. Good thing is that the aircon guy will redirect the pipe to run above the toilet false ceiling and out, directing the water to the 2nd floor roof gutters, hence avoiding hacking toilet tiles. Rotting parquet has been hacked away and will need some time for it to dry completely first before they relay the parquet. We will do another test after they have redirected the pipe first before laying back the parquet.
  2. Yes, that is what I plan to do. Reason why I suspect the aircon drainpipe is because 1. Tiler flooded the toilet but no issue 2. Parquet became wet after we turned on aircon for a few hours 3. We observed the toilet floor and wall joint line grouting is wet where the drainpipe's location was.
  3. Welcome! There are a few t-blogs on landed reno. You should read them, especially jumbopanther's. His is really full of information and knowledge.
  4. Okay, I am going to try my best to explain. Hope you can visualize. In my brother-in-law's room, the wall that the aircon was mounted is the same wall with the toilet, ie one side of the wall is the room and the other side is the toilet. Hence there is a drainage pipe running down that wall, across the toilet floor and to the trap at the other side of the toilet. During hacking, the pipe that runs along the floor was changed. I am not sure if the one that runs down the wall from the aircon was changed or not, because I did not observe the change. There are no pipes that run under the parquet floor of my brother-in-law's room and we are equally puzzled why and how the water gets there. The funny thing was, the wall is dry, the parquet skirting is dry, the parquet from the wall to about a foot away is dry...but a stretch of the parquet one foot away from the wall was affected. We dunno why. Noted your suggestions. We may explore the option of running a new drain pipe. That was what the aircon guy suggested too.
  5. After moving in for 2 weeks or so, the first serious problem surfaced. We noticed that the parquet flooring in my brother-in-law's room was wet and rotting. After some investigation, including flooding the toilet, we've concluded that the problem lies with the aircon. It seems that water is leaking into the parquet flooring when the aircon is turned on. The aircon was the previous owner's, which we didnt change but we did change the discharge pipe that runs through the toilet, when we hacked the toilet. ID has been very responsive and cooperative, good after sales service! Tomorrow we are having an onsite meeting with the tiler, parquet and hacking contractors. Likely we will need to hack away the toilet floor, wall and parquet to diagnose and rectify the problem. What a bummer....
  6. For my case, I locked up all my stuff in one of the room I am not renovating. Just to be safe.
  7. This is scary!!! I will be very paranoid if this happens to me!
  8. I was in the same condition as you. Every one tells me my house no need to reno, very good condition. But I still hack everything away. Your house you must like. The reno must be a reflection of your personality. Otherwise the best reno will still be an eyesore if you don't like it.
  9. Thanks. I will check with the aircon person. Problem was all other aircons in my house were also done in this way, ie those done by previous owner. The pipings were not covered in PVC.
  10. Spoken to the aircon person and they will come and fix it. She thought that I was referring to why the insulated pipings were exposed and that was what she's referring to as normal practice. The picture was too small for her to pick out what's wrong until I emailed her.
  11. I've checked the other compressors and they all insulate right into the compressor. Only the new one I installed didn't. ****..still trying to pull a fast one over me!
  12. Need some help from the gurus here. I noticed that the aircon insulation did not run all the way to the compressor. The ends of the pipings connected to the compressor were not insulated. I've checked with the aircon person and she said that is the normal practice. So the question is, is it really the normal practice?

  14. Yah, you are right. The glass my daughter ran into was one big piece of glass sliding door for my study room. I am thinking of putting some decals or window film over it to mark out the doors.
  15. Review of Donny and James It is weird to have to deal with 2 IDs. Who do we instruct what and when? Luckily things settled down after a while as we quickly learned that James is the creative element and Donny is the project manager. First and foremost, I think the 2 of them made a great pair (not that kind of pair though ) as their strengths complement each other. While James is the creative one, he sometimes get carried away without considering the practicality aspect of the design. Donny is the more pragmatic and practical of the 2 and he will point out challenges, issues and workarounds that sometimes a designer may either fail to see, or sacrifice for the sake of design. They are both able to value-add and highlight areas whereby I could do better, or not do to be better. Both of them are very responsible and very responsive. From the day that my reno started till handover, I can honestly say that they are on site almost everyday to check on the progress and defects. As with most reno, hiccups occur here and there and they won't shirk their responsibilities or try to argue with you unlike other IDs. They always accept their mistakes and are quick to rectify. I am also very happy with the way they've scheduled the works, with everything lined up perfectly. Not a day goes by where no work was done (other than Sundays and public holidays of course). Now for some of the items which they can improve in. I am appalled at how unobservant they are. Even though they visit the site everyday, yet I was the one who is constantly highlighting the defects to them. Some of these defects were also pretty obvious that I am surprised they didn't spot them before me. Of the 2, James is pretty forgetful and sometimes forget our requirements or things get done incorrectly. We have to keep reminding him, and things still cock up despite that. To be fair to him, our requirements change constantly too, so it's hard for him to keep track sometimes But like I've said, they are both very accommodating and responsive to our requests...then again we are also very accommodating to the various mistakes made Their contractors were all pretty good and accommodating to us as well.Workmanship wise,I can't really hiam much, minor hiccups here and there which they rectify immediately. Having said that, no relationship is perfect and we are very happy with them so far. The reno experience has been very positive for us and we will not hesitate to recommend them to others.
  16. After staying there for a week, I realized I did not do the most important thing of them all! I need a lift! Any lobangs and can I still do now? It's either that or knee replacement surgeries down the road.
  17. Problem with big glass is... People walk straight into them. Lol. Happened to my daughter.
