  1. it is still made in uk. not many vacuum are nowadays. its main strong point is it hardly breaks down. i have seen workers using really battered ones but still sucking strong.
  2. Let me share some of my fav purchases from overseas over the years. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00008Z9XZ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE i always go to london and i can see hotels/cleaners using this vacuum cleaner, simple machine, no fancy functions but it really sucks, literally. they have a cute female version which is what i got.

  4. Hi all, spent almost the whole afternoon and still cannot finish reading this thread. good to find so many like minded people shopping for stuff from overseas. i travel pretty often to europe and usa and has been buying most if not all non perishable stuff from overseas. i have a new flat and a lot of my fittings like taps, lamps were all from overseas, prices locally is really cut throat. i am still trying to furnish my new place so really thank you all for sharing your purchases.

  7. i did teak flooring for my bedrooms and living room too. the price depends on a few factor. length, width and thickness all affects the prices significantly. also depends if you need to add plywood to the base of the flooring. if i remember correctly, the commonly used 2inches strips starts from abt $9-10 per sq ft including installation.
  8. My sink has arrived. really quick delivery, ordered on 23rd and it arrived on 28th. no pictures yet as i will be be bringing it down to my new place before opening the box.

  11. Hi all, I ordered a 30" Kraus square sink. it states that the item should arrive in about a week's time. looking forward to seeing my new sink. As for group shipping, there is a bit of savings if more items are being shipped together, but its not that much. maybe save $10 per item.
  12. Depends on your budget. Hansgrohe or Grohe are 2 very popular but expensive brands

  15. So there goes the journey of renovating the new apartment. Being totally clueless initially, we did what many people would have done, that is to go for some reno fair at the expo. I thought i will just go there and take a look but ended up spending 20-30 mins being pushed packages by 'IDs' of various companies and at the same time they will do some space planning for us. But the problem was that we did not know what we wanted to do with the flat yet. So at the end of the excursion, we roughly found out what most ID proposed were very similar, eg. feature walls for the TV, false ceiling, built in wardrobes etc. I also find most of the portfolio of the IDs similar in a way in that they were all very contemporary style, with glossy surfaces, glass/mirrors used. My wife and I decided that that is not the kind of style we wanted. So we left expo not knowing what we want but more of what we did not want.
  16. thanks, now i know how to upload pics. lol. first let me put the floor plan of my unit.

  22. I guess buying an air con is different from buying other appliances as one is not just paying for the air con but the cost of installation as well. Therefore the cheapest vendor might not be the best choice as the installation is the one that will be causing one the most problem and headache and heartache if its not done properly and inferior parts are used. My air con was installed by my cousin who works for a smaller air con vendor even though i had to pay a few hundred more than gain city or best tech. the boss of my cousin's company personally came down before installing to meet my ID and go thru the best way to run the trunking and piping etc, even my ID was impressed by the suggestions of the boss. PS: I am not advertising for the company or my cousin as my cousin is only the installer, just sharing my experience.
  23. Hi all, i agree that when getting air con, the installation and material used for the trunking is very important. my own cousin is an air con installer for the past 15 years. his advise to me is that for the big boys like GC, courts etc, they can offer very competitive prices and offer promos like 5 years warranty. the problem is that they also have a large pool of installers working for them, and they can be from different companies, so its really up to your luck if you get a good or bad one. as for 5 years warranty, it is def good to have but take note most time if your air con breaks down there is usually a waiting time from a few days to weeks before the repairman can come down. so to cut the long story short, the bottom line to buying an air con is to make sure there is good reviews of past users regarding installation instead of just looking at which is the best price.
