  1. Hi Sarah Many thanks for your feedback too Will def take note of your comments and keep this in mind when we put in the furniture Reason why we wanted a brick wall was cos the place looked kind of plain without one. With a brick wall it definitely spices up the area.. In our opinion. A full brick wall was also out of the question as this area is way too small. Will try to post more of my conversations with him but doubt we will see him until carpentry is up. Hopefully our choice of the diseased wall won't spoil the whole look of the house
  2. Wah that is really terrible! We had a bad experience too Long time ago when we bought our table from thelifeshop. The table was supposed to be one big piece of wood but when it was delivered it was 2 separate pieces! Read about other furniture retailers too and they don't seem very good too. Can u try asking for a full refund and get your table from elsewhere?
  3. Hi Texas,Thanks for the input ! Nope we're not looking at anything rustic/"dark", and a full brick wall would definitely make that particular area look cramped and heavy. The pic in the link isn't what we're looking for. If we're looking at a rustic feel we wouldn't have chosen our current floor tiles. Will look at it again its painted white. Just to clarify that our contractor is not an interior designer, so he's not obliged to help us in any design. He's doing it out of goodwill. He's slightly more exp because of his workmanship, and not design. ThanKs for the frank feedback ! Will post pic of the finished product...hopefully it doesn't look rojak. If it fails, most likely round 2 on this portion. P.s my wife's friend said the wall looked "diseased" haha
  4. Wah u very smart. Why didn't I think of this ?? Hi Vanessa . Thanks. By the way we'll drop by commune tomorrow as suggested. Ya,and I realized most guys choose the 2nd or 3rd one. Haha. Nice hor, but shipping will be a hassle. Apparently this has won some award. Haha. Ya but my wife is worried that it has too much of an industrial feel. Will see the real thing tomorrow and post them here.
  5. Hi Volkswagon7983. we'll be going down tomorrow to check out the prices. Will keep u updated.
  6. Hi Retch. Actually my wife and I thought u made the smart decision by keeping reno cost low, and beautifying your house with nice furniture. If we had more funds we will definitely get the &tradition lights! We needed 3, which is very "xiong".
  7. Short-listed TV console: (Wall and door frames will be painted white) 1st and 2nd choice: Both are from John Erdos. Please ignore the pink sofa as my wife and I disagree on the colour. I'd prefer it in grey. 3rd choice: Price for the Pawnee is reasonable. But unfortunately they can only send it to a shipper in NY, which meant that i would need some freight forwarder to send it over to SG. Troublesome.
  8. ermm, no $$ cos of your big ticket items like the lovely &tradition lights, SMEG etc ?
  9. Hi. Though he said it'll take some time, I'm pretty sure he'll deliver earlier than promised. We plan in advance too, but we're so indecisive that he seemed quite irritated. Haha. Take for example colour of our door frames. Initially we wanted it white. Then black, and now white again.
  10. Hi Retch. You're currently using this ? Looks very "cheem" leh.
  11. Hi lala81. Yes to above except for amp. We'll be getting soundbar though. Will try to minimise on those as I can't stand too many wirings running. Too messy and hard to clean will accumulate dust ! Maybe will put ps3 in master bedroom. We are trying to achieve a modern Scandinavian look. Hope it won't turn out to be rojak !
  12. Hi itsybits, THanks for sharing his contact. He's really good la. We don't need to do any close monitoring on the progress. Only tedious part is he rushing us to buy fittings. Haha. We have to rush to get our toilet fittings by this weekend as he'll be back from his "leave". Hahaha. And his fittings are of good quality (windows, iron wrought gate, grill etc are heavy and sturdy) as compared to flimsy ones we got from our previous reno. It's really like old school contractor quality which is quite rare now. He also provides solutions and ideas which will definitely improve our lifestyle. He's actually not obliged to do so as he's s contractor. He has mentioned to us that he's doing some minor things for your home too. Anyway thanks again ! P.s my wife and I are followers of your blogspot. Hehh
  13. Hi Retch, Like what my wife said I've got bad taste when it comes to design....so it'll be a difficult task for me. Haha The drawback of this cb2 console is that the wirings will be very exposed.
  14. Tot I would just post a pic of the living area while waiting for open net. We decided to box up the living area as hdb rules only allowed for one compressor (for those without the built in aircon ledge) As one compressor is not sufficient to air con the whole house and I'm terribly afraid of the heat, we decided to box up up our living. This will be our "chill out" corner - I enjoy watching tv and can watch for a whole day! Now I just need to find the perfect tv console for my tv to sit on ;p (I will ask my hubs to paste the pic directly when I get home. To lazy to do...
  15. Oh ya My hubby saw something at commune that he liked. Guess you know his taste quite well! Hehe We are hesitant to buy from these big names after reading about retchlow's experience in her blog and our not so pleasant experience with bo. But I guess maybe no harm trying commune
  16. Hi Vanessa Thanks for your advice! We have, in my opinion, practically scoured the whole of singapore looking for the perfect media console. I've seen many houses using the wooden console with pencil legs and it is very very nice. our concern is that it will not match the rest of our house as we are looking at something modern. Do you think it will be clashy or it works just fine? We've seen too many such that we're simply at a loss now! So we really don't know what to do! Guess we will drop by tan boon liat again this weekend. Hopefully, we can find something, if not I got to ask my contractor make one...
  17. Yes we've been there. They have a few nice pieces, but we wanted something less vintage looking.
  18. Thanks for your advice Yes you're right we wanted splashes of colour, but then this does look cheap. Looks like those trolleys used to put OHP ( overhead projector) during secondary school days. Haha
  19. Help needed for TV console : What we wanted : We wanted this as it didn't have a "heavy looking" feel that we're trying to avoid. It will be placed against the "pinkwhale lookalike" brick wall. As time pass by, we grew more uneasy with this as we felt that it couldn't blend in. I personally think the wheels looked funny, and it resembled store room shelvings. Can anyone give your view on this ?
  20. Hi dim, The lights will be delivered tomorrow. Will update you on the quality.
