  1. i had to make sure she wouldn't suspect anything, so before the main course was served, i started telling her to give me more time and not to pressure me. I didn't think i was ready for marriage as yet.. we started quarelling and she was nearly in tears out of frustration by the time her birthday cake arrived. Heng she didn't storm off. share your proposal leh...
  2. don't be silly.... no need to call anything.. we can all bake together... you guys bake in the kitchen, i go play with your hubby. you work in raffles place too? my FW said her building also got evacuated. One Raffles Marina also got evacuated.
  3. this price is quite cheap... fifi you can consider wat....
  4. Mine was actually pretty simple to be frank. We were in Bangkok to celebrate my FW's birthday so we decided to spare no expenses. We were staying at Banyan Tree Bangkok and for one of the nights, we had dinner at the famous Vertigo Restaurant (supposedly the 2nd highest restaurant in the world). As it was her birthday, I had already planned for a complimentary birthday cake to be presented to her after dinner. What she didn't know was that I had also struck a deal with the maitre'd to put the engagement ring together with the birthday cake. When the cake was delivered to our table, I simply asked if she would be willing to have me for life. I didn't go down on my knees cause... the restaurant was full that day... quite paiseh. !! Luckily she didn't say no... if not super malu man... according to the maitre'd, this german guy called Max, we were the first couple to get engaged there.
  5. lol sorry sir, but in our family corporation, there's only a CEO and a CFO. I already happen to be the CEO. but seriously, i've very little alcohol to bring over. While doing inventory that day, I realised that I only have a btl of absolut peach, 2 btls of bombay sapphire (i'm a gin man), one btl of JW black label and one btl of chivas.... that's quite sad. so from now, when we hold housewarming parties, you guys are welcome to come with more btls of alcohol!
  6. oops my bad try booking from the hotel directly http://www.harris-batam.com/ it's quite easy actually. there are 4 options if i recall rightly - 1) The jetty terminal has driver services to send you anywhere, including harris resort. quite ex. 2) Walk 5 m out of the jetty terminal and lots of taxis are available. They cost $2. But its a little bit scary coz you don't feel totally safe. 3) There will be Harris representatives at the ferry terminal. Ask them to call the hotel and send a transfer mini bus for you. $2. Best option. 4) Hope that there will be the mini bus already there. Pretend that you're part of the tour package and just hop on for free. !!
  7. what my FW and i did was to scour packages online before deciding that the cheapest one we could find was tied down to a tour agency's in singapore. there's quite a few packages available online right now - http://www.fascinating.com.sg/free&eas...esort-dec06.htm This seems to be the cheapest so far. you might be able to find something cheaper. If you can trust online booking, you might also be able to consider this - http://www.sunplanners.com/harris.htm hope it helps!
  8. Can... No need to pay for the drink, no need for tips. But you gotta buy your own Creme de Cassis and Champagne. I don't have both.
  9. hi there!! not only will we become Jurong West neighbours (in a way), we'll probably see each other at the ROM too! 070707 right? !!
  10. oops fifi, let me clarify. when i say, "actually not really", it was in response to what you said about booking on your own equals troublesome jetty transfer. yes, no offence to ahnah, but i also think 300 per pax is very ex. i paid $68 per pax a couple of weeks ago. at 300 per pax, i can consider going to thailand on a very tight budget - but where's the fun in that?
  11. rofl bro, like that might as well ask them to put a payphone in the living room and print up menus to charge for alcohol too...
  12. actually not really... we just went to Harris Resort for a holiday too. We got the rooms from a tour agency (because after doing extensive homework, we realised that we could get the room cheaper from this particular tour agency rather than booking on our own from asiarooms for eg) and it was totally free and easy. they came with transfer from jetty to hotel. but we were rather unhappy with the trip coz all our memories of waterfront city were backdated. my fault. i kept telling our friends about the happy times i spent there when i was last back there - with the indoor snow city, the well maintained paintball area, the then-new go kart area... back then was super fun. this time around, we realised that everything was so run down and old and the indoor snow city had burned down several years earlier... sigh aiyoh... pls don't say that. i hardly think she can be considered to be a master. let's learn and explore together... !!
  13. wah bro, you really don't mind us going over to visit you? ON! next time you all must come over too.... 5 room flat for a young couple can get quite quiet.... no choice.. FW is my CFO. grin i bet you're really relieved and happy now, kande.. you mentioned that you were going to start reno works ASAP... so i assume you'll be starting soon? we're going to be having a bar counter too (my choice. i've worked as a bartender since my JC days and would feel totally weird if my own place didn't have a bar counter) and we were planning to get a pool table. but we can scratch that idea out... heh we're like you too. we go furniture shopping every wkend and every evening after her work... btw, are there any cases of HDB not approving the sale? Coz I have recurring nightmares of waiting and waiting for months, only for HDB to say, "Sorry. You're rejected"
  14. nair mind like that, you and your hubby come la
  15. Congrats on finally getting your keys. My FW and I are waiting to collect our keys too.... I know how excited you must be. Super envious right now....
  16. that actually sounds pretty fun! how much do you intend to sell it for? my FW and I are planning a play room and as of now, are ping-ponging back and forth between getting a soccer table, a 7 foot pool table or a really fun ice hockey game that we saw in a pub recently
  17. lol sure sure.... next time we can even organise a pot luck open house. a lot of you guys live in JW right?
  18. lol i should really recommend you to my FW. not that i'm tooting her horn, but one thing she can do really well is cook. Cakes are her speciality (since she owned her own cafe when she was just 20). In fact, her award winning chocolate cakes are so good that before she took up this current job of hers, someone actually approached her, wanting her to be the in-house consultant for a cafe that the person wanted to set up. sigh Looking back, i'm pretty useless. Just yesterday, we were shopping for furniture and she was pretty quiet when she came to the ovens department. Guess she knew that our budget couldn't fit in a built-in oven, even though baking has been her passion all her life. In the end, i felt so bad that I decided on a compromise - i don't really need an lcd tv for the living room or nice toilet bowls. Her oven meant more to her than a nice toilet bowl could mean for my butt... sigh
  19. Thanks for all the super constructive advice guys.... It will really come in handy. Sorry for the late reply on my part too. Just got home from uni. HENPECKED?!???!??! time to alter some things in this household.
