Furniture co. always have "sale" over weekends. Flip open Straits Times Life Section on Sat and you will see all the adverts.
  2. Pro Brings Warmth and natural beauty to a home Cons Always keep dry to prevent warping, splitting and cracking High maintenacne. Daily cleaning recommended. Surface can be renewed with the use of sanding machine that strips away the top layer, exposing a new layer that can be repolished and resealed. Some tips I read about wood flooring: 1. Sweep or vacuum as often as necessary to remove any loose dirt or grit before it scratches the floor. 2. When moving heavy object like furniture, slip a blanket or a carpet under each foot of the object to prevent scratching and gouging. 3. Use floor protectors on the leg of your furniture to prevent scratching and gouging. 4. When buying new furniture, pay special attention to casters or wheels. 5. In areas with busy traffic, like doorways or corridors, make use of runners and area rugs. For floors that are beginning to show wear and tear, recoat before the damage is too heavy. 6. As the wood in your floor ages, it will change colour. Certain species of wood, such as cherry, change colour more drastically than others. You should periodically move carpets and furniture to allow the floor to age uniformly.
  3. Tempur very ex. Heard the design is based on technology designed for astronauts.
  4. Pardon me for saying but the 3 positions does not seem to have any significant differences. The only difference seems to be deciding btw round or rectangular dining table. As long as the table are not fixed to a certain spot, i think you can still move it around for different occasions. The thing you probably need to consider is the point for the lightings.
  5. My FW's colleague house reno was done by United. I have not seen the finished products but understand from my FW that her colleagues commented that their designs are pretty good. However, due to some communication problems between their designer and the contractors, the end product was not really according to the design. The finishing quality was also not so ideal. However, they negotiated with their ID and managed to cut some cost off the final bill. All in all, her colleague were still quite pleased and recommended United for our considerations as their designs are pretty good. May go down one of these days to visit her colleague's place.

  7. Why not? Do your bit for the environment. The latest UN report on Mother Earth is already a warning. I think this should be extended to more places, especially supermarkets where the use of plastic bags is really excessivem, wasteful and sometimes unnecessary. I have seen people buying newspaper and demanding a plastic bag. Why do you need a plastic bag for a newspaper?! I had the opportunity to stay in Sweden for a while. Over there, almost everyone would bring their own grocery bags to the supermarket to do their shopping, else you would have to pay for their paperbags which cost 50cents each. I also got into the habit as times goes by. However, as soon as I am back home, I totally put aside my grocery bags as free plastic bags are readily available everywhere, why bother. I believe its a matter of getting use to. Why not? Do your bit for the environment. The latest UN report on Mother Earth is already a warning. 8. I went to this SuperBrand ID firm also, not very impressed by their ideas, seems almost like some sort of SOP designs for HDB flats. Keep asking you to pay $1000 so that they can show you their 3D drawings. A friend of mine also has his house (4-rm) done up by them. Spent 30k but dun seems to have done much. Workmanship wise also not very good. Decided not to go to them. Are you refering to United**** or the other more Baroque style showroom one next to it (forgotten the name)? Which one got more design sense?
  9. Read in a ID magazine (dun know is it Home & Decor, Home Concepts or Squarerooms) that to have a WIW, the room should be at least 6 x 4m. If your room measures smaller than that, then it is probably too small to have one.
  10. There are a lot of shops selling tiles along Balestier Road. If I am not wrong, the old HDB office at Bukit Merah also have a big Nan Wah showroom. I also went to Builders Centre at Changi South. There is a place selling tiles on the 4th floor, the name of the place is called STILE. Wide variety. Happened to bump into this place while visiting the Funktion showroom at the ground floor.
  11. I think I saw it at Ikea before. It is those type that cannot be rolled up but can slide sideways right?
  12. What is storage heater? Same as water heater?
  13. AMK, TPY and Bishan are near to each other but each has got its own hub and bustling with activities. Currently staying at Serangoon and always frequent these 3 places. So dun think Clementi and Tiong bahru is too near Commonwealth, I think each has its population mass to sustain a hub. But agree that the new hub at OneNorth may be a bit close...
  14. Ghim Moh no bus interchange leh. More like a bus terminal with a bus stop where service 100 stop for the bus driver to punch card and turn around. But anyway, would be good to have an interchange if it turns out to be true. Any place with a bus interchange will be a hub of activities, which can only be good for us in future.

If you like modern/timeless comtemporary designs, i think they offer good value for money. Base on my comparison, in the same price range as Lush, cheaper than Courts Finest and Harvey Norman designs. Prices are lower than Air Division, Massimo and XZQT.
