  1. I think we have the same tap. It swings left right and the water outlet turns 180 deg as well.
  2. Didnt know you "quoted" me till today. Glad that you find the write up useful, simply sharing my "been there, done that." Sometimes it's not the extra saving from buying direct that matters. It is the effort and time you invested in that counts. Taobao : $xxxx, satisfactory : priceless.
  3. Here you go, Missus says she got the recipe here. http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/44497/baked-flan http://m.allrecipes.com/video/2861/baked-flan
  4. Welcome Feli!! Finally en route to "My Home". For the kitchen, on the microwave side, ever consider to do top hung as well? I guess price is not that big of an impact.
  5. I was overseas when posting and the baking was done some time ago, just didnt have the time to upload. Now looking forward to the second try soon.
  6. The first try on the Oven. Got to say, taste pretty good to me.
  7. Here you go. This shop has some interesting light. http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=13150113188&spm=a1z09.2.9.462.NF8ypr&_u=41n55c8t0386
  8. Another round of Taobao, though 90% of the items are not mine.
  9. Thanks. Tempered glass is no doubt cheaper than any solid top but faces the normal glass disadvantages such as stain marks and scratches issues. However as of now, still pretty satisfy with the look and effect. Pulling out is targeted at using appliances that generate steam such as rice cooker, electric kettle etc. When pull out, steam will not directly hit the top of the carpentry, avoiding any issues in the run.
  10. I guess you dont have top hung cabinet and any glass back splash for the kitchen?
  11. Next time when drilling, bring the operating vacuum right next to the drilling hole. Then all dust and debris will be vacuum away, nothing much to clean afterward.
  12. Just to elaborate a little further, if custom make the gate, you can consider to add more vertical bars. As seen below, one will have no access from the left side of the gate while right side will prove to be a challenge using one hand with the door close. Also if the door lock/handle is facing the gate lock when closed, the space in between are almost impossible to reach at all.
  13. I saw the Stomp post and check my lock, dont seems to be able to open like what he did. Did a little more study, yield a little result, though I stand corrected. Yale 323G http://www.yaleasia.com/en/yale/yale-asia/News/2014/News-category/Singapore-launches-Yale-GateLock-for-metal-doors/ Yale 323 www.yaleasia.com/en/yale/yale-asia/yale-lock-products/?groupId=4490&productId=66124 Seems like there is a difference between these 2 models. Unless Stomper step forward with the model he bought, else unable to comment further. What he was able to do does make sense for a door lock. Else impossible to do a manual reset or open from inside since there is no knob/handle. Yale 323G comes with a remote control to open the lock. There is no open button on the lock itself even from the inside. My guess, Stomper bought the wrong lock for the door and not the gate. Tried on my own lock, it is possible to access battery area with an allen key. However he did it with the door open. He should really try it with the door closed and see if 30 seconds is doable. Further to that, mentioned in my earlier post on digital lock, most gate dont fit digital lock. You have to custom make a cover with padlock to cover from the inside but Yale 323G solves this issue. So, if one wanna be on the safe side, they can still custom make a cover or they have to custom make the gate. The gate can be design in a way where the back of the lock is inaccessible by adding more "vertical/horizontal" bars. And also to calculate the gate lock inside the house part to be facing the door lock/handle to eliminate any space between.
  14. Nice kitchen, layout is great and efforts had been invested in it. If one thing I wanna nit pick will be the door. Is it a swing door or slide door? (correct me if I am wrong) However if the door swing into dining/living and against a wall, then it is fine. I would have done the exact the same thing like you, except the stove and sink to swap places and use a hood instead of a chimney hood. Hood offer more cabinets on top, though will look congested. These, however are just personal preference. Prefer cooking fumes to be near to service balcony than living. The ample table top is brilliance, imagine with all the electrical appliances and what have you when you move in. Throw in the preparation of food, especially if you bake, simply superb. Ample 13A sockets for usage which some will underestimate the need of it. Oven height is desirable, not on the low where one has to bend/squat to check the baking/roasting. And consider the weight of the cast iron cookware, oven on the low may prove a little more challenging. The good mixture of drawers and casement is a big plus! No doubt casement stores more, however one has to squat and "dig in" to get things. Drawing slides out and get a bird's eyes view. Ok, this is coming from a old man 's POV. A undeniable well plan, well thought kitchen.
  15. A Thought or Two On The Oven The oven, the want to have but not need to have. Unless you are a baking enthusiast who use it more than twice a month, else it is still after all a nice deco in modern kitchen. Here to pen down some thoughts that cross my mind when placing the oven. Never been a fan of oven under the stove. Main reason - pure laziness. I cant imagine keep bending over to check the cooking every now and then plus the everyday ageing didnt help either. We went shopping for some roast ware and good lord, arent those heavy! A whatever fancy named ware is easily 1kg or more. Throw in the ingredients and you are looking at 2kg or more up. Non issue for most guys but posing a challenge for the petite ladies. Couple with the blazing heat, it certainly complicates matter. So with the waist height installation, it kinda solve, if not lessen the burden and risk involved during operation. And not forgetting most oven are pulled down type, those with mini me/mini you who are in the phase of trigger happy, may unknowingly reach for it. Plus waist height gives you the excuse have a full height carpentry which most properly isnt goona differ much from normal cost. And also the means to stick a "Tower" drawer unit beside it, so wont look so lonely. So you might wonder, after penning this much, I should be a decent user who can bake or roast? Matter of fact, I'm neither. However, I am doing the hard part - eating.
  16. Oh dont worry, TB num 2 will be on the way soon.
  17. Thanks binzz, hope your reno is coming along well and enjoying your shopping.
  18. I'd used Blum in almost all hinges and runners in the house, except for some minor carpentry where usage is not high. Asked my carpenter, he has experience with other make but still find Blum the best in terms of quality. But I do agree with you that they are pricey, however per hinge set is about $2 if I rem correct. Hinge set meaning hinge and soft closing. And by hinge, referring to those open to 90 deg and not those 120 deg or more. Then again, you wont need so many hinge set. A HDB full height cabinet needs about 4 hinges and 2 soft closing is enough. So meaning, 6 parts a door. Base on this, you can add up and make an estimation of the quantity needed. I had extreme amount of carpentry, I was told by my carpenter to get 180 hinges but 90 soft closing. Still the sums adds up. The killer is actually the "Aventos" hydraulic arm, one that is commonly fitted at the dish rack that use to conceal the dish rack. This piece alone is SGD$100 plus. Then comes the runner, think mine are using Movento, can hold up to 40kg per drawer, good for kitchen for keeping bottles of oil, sauces, seasoning. If one roast and bake, those cast iron ware are pretty heavy but these runners can hold them up if kept in drawer.
  19. What Song Chu offers is the built of the hardware, ie the stainless steel baskets but I cant comment on the moving parts. The con is really the limitation of the dimension, no flexibility, take their dimensions and fit in your kitchen. Yup a look alike Blum Tower unit but minus the cost of Blum. What you need to pay here are just the runners, while the carpenter can make the drawers with your preferred height, depth and length. Of cos Blum has a wider range of drawers to choose from, stainless steel, glasses etc but one drawer easily $100 up. And this additional come from your pocket, carpentry is not gonna reduce cost in any way if you choose Blum drawers. Matter of fact, I heard scenarios that carpenter charge more if using Blum, citing they need to attend a course to be certified Blum fitter. So let's take a step back, you want the functionality, cost efficient and aesthetics, get Blum runners and make sure your carpentry comes in Internal PVC coloured.
  20. 4) Location of seller: If your sea freight forwarder is located in Guangzhou, then try to buy from seller in the nearby region. You reduce the risk of damages of your items during the transportation and the required time needed. Not exactly true, though theoretically, less distance traveled means less chance of damages. However it is more of the handling and packaging that matters. However, if distance of seller to forwarders is nearer, chances of getting domestic courier waived is higher. 5) Use AXS instead of NETS payments : Use AXS machine to top up AliPay account to reduce transaction fee charged for using NETS. Also some TaoBao shops only accept Alipay. AXS topping up to Alipay is one option but using NETS is more convenient compare to Alipay. Money top up to Alipay is non refundable and the exchange rate charge are unfavorable. (Experience from 3 months ago) NETS surchage is SGD$1 per transaction. Yes per transaction, not per link, per item etc. Meaning when making payment for the items in your TB cart, if you click all your items and click on pay for all, you one pay SGD$1 more for the total price. Also exchange rates are better. (Experience 1 month ago)
  21. Yes, the 68X series, nice location with good accessibility. TB order direct is VERY easy. it is always the waiting for delivery part that is difficult, especially for the first time. If need to know more, you can always drop a line here.
  22. Thank you for the kind words. I would not say it's very neat but at least it hides the sticks and rod from open view. Anyway, to keep it in the cabinet, the mops have to be dry, else there will be some musky smell overtime.
  23. Not too sure about the drawing basket but as name applies, basket has holes and uneven, good for pack/box items but certainly not for bottles. Further to this, some baskets are actually only supported on one side which makes it to be not so sturdy. Dimension is another factor to consider. Baskets are pre-fab, you can have to choose the width available . With drawers, you can custom the with to fit your kitchen. If you are doing this, do get better drawer runners. Look for those that can withstand 30kg or more.
  24. Thanks for the compliment. Simply sharing and noting down own reno journey.
