  1. Dear linggie, I assure you that you ain miss anything abt the banquet. I was a bestman and personally observed that even with most detailed planning, things sure to go wrong here and there, esp if you have stubborn and interferring parents. Not to frighten you, 2 mths ago my friend's friend banquet was totally ruined because the entire hotel's banquet kitchen staff decided to do a "no show" on that day. So in the end, there was nothing beside dishes prawn crackers were served. Can you imagine that.
  2. Lucky both our parents dun insist on traditional banquets, infact all support us to go as simple as possible. Our plan is to find a nice place and have both our ROM and Tea Ceremony done at the same time then followed by a buffet. 1 afternoon wrap up everything. So now the headache part is the choosing the venue.
  3. You guys can organise a massive house warming party
  4. Wow, you guys really spending alot of $$$ on your banquets..... for me I try to skip all these
  5. I always tell ppl I am from your friendly Ah Seng school................... Gan Eng Seng
  6. I am very curious abt your quote as I am spending 18k on a resale which also exclude curtains and electrical and aircon.
  7. Hmm 28k, i guess you are doing a resale 4rm??? So whats your final quote?? Include Curtains/blinds and lighting??
  8. Hohoho, our rommie here's a teacher?? Some of the school nearby: Gan Eng Seng School. 1 Henderson Road Singapore 159561 Bukit Merah Sec School. 10, Lengkok Bahru Singapore 159050 CHIJ St Teresa's Convent. 160 Radin Mas Singapore 099138 There's a couple more. Will list them down when I can track them down for you. Cheers
  9. I am sorry to hear that, green_tranquility and also very touched by your steadfastness, support you given to your bf. I hope he really appreciate you and your love for him. As for reno, go slow and its important to identify what you NEED and what you WANT.Both are very different things and can make very big difference on the final quote. Another thing to note is, of the tendancy to add more and more to the reno list as u think about it. You need to be careful there. I hope my experience will help
  10. Yes I know ***** is not the cheapest and they admitted that. They assured me that it is because of the materials they use, ie they wont use cheap hollow wood for their carpentry, the study desk they are making for me has 3 iron rods that will take over 100kg. If you ask them, their warranty is also pretty good. They quotated me 25k at 1st with the understanding that there's things which I can cut. So we cut here and there and narrow down to abt 18k. I basically redo the living room, masterbedroom and studyroom Consider the scope of work, it say its pretty good deal. Hmmm, I dunno it is the best idea to let your bf pay everything. Anyway if it floats your ship, its ok I just spent 14 hrs today with my ID selecting material and curtains/blinds and shopping for lightings. He said that there will be a roadshow @ Expo where Orangecube will be having a promotional package. You can drop by and speak to him, Louis Teo. Good Luck. Yeah that stall's really popular. They even supply fruits to my girl's company for the staff's consumption.
  11. hahaha..i know what u mean...I signed the letter of offer in Jan,1st appointment in Mar and 2nd appointment in Jun and now only Sep can move in......its like forever... The worse part is to endure the next 2 mths......
  12. Hmm monthly repayment..yeah abit siong, but still ok, lucky at least no need to top up with cash. I got a 3.5% fix rate for 2 yrs from UOB I got OrangeCube- Louis Teo, very nice and sincere guy. He spent like over 10 hrs patiently with us before we are happy with the quotation. Then another 2 weekends going thru the 3D designs. Infact, we will be meeting him tomorrow to select materials/color and he will follow us to shop for suitable furnitures and lightnings. Seriously, I would suggest u speak to him at least, tell him you are referred by Nicholas/Samantha.
  13. No, we use CPF for now, but will review it when the time comes.
  14. Lol..no way 600-700k.. To be honest, it was a one mega stroke of luck to land the flat. Share you the story: I started house hunting around Nov/Dec and thru a good friend I get to know that the flat's for sale. Since I approached the seller's agent directly, it was his interest to persuade the seller to sell the flat to me instead of many many other potentials. This is because he would get the commissions from both sides without the need of co-broking. So he gave a discount on the commission, meaning instead of paying him higher commission, the discount was used to top up the cash offer to the seller. Another thing was that one of the daughters of the owner was my sec schoolmate! Signed the letter of offer within the week. Lucky right?? Just a gentle opinion to share: 1. Remember to make buffers for your CPF, dun let them wipe everything out. 2. Get the 100% HPS each for you and your Mr/Missus.
  15. Its really a very low ceiling, not difficult to reach. The fact that they forcing us to find cash for downpayments and heavier bankloans really left me bitter... Anyway, I'd stop the whining and nice to have u folks as neighbours. My reno will start next week and like you guys, we cant wait to move in
  16. Your blocks are what we wanted badly, but they said the combo income made us disqualified automatically.. so no direct purchase from HDB nor loan also, no grant nor whatsoever. So no choice have to buy resale Really very crap cos we are 1st timer and young couple also and fancy get penalised like that....
  17. So envy you, my loan application straight away shot down...appealed failed also
  18. Hi guys, Anyway, I am also very excited like you as I too purchase my 1st home but its a resale @ block 118A. Welcome to Jalan Membina and into my territory hehe (I have been staying around the area for over 25 yrs.)
  19. You are right to say there are signs of "cross over" between religions. For example, my mother-in-law just past away, we engaged a monk to perform the rites and there was this particular rite he did to cleanse the house. He told us that this cleansing actuallywas not necessary because since i'ts my MIL's spirit, she wont harm us. However, because the Taoist do it, people have questioned the monks why they dont do so (hence not value for $$). Therefore these days the monks perform this cleaning rites as well. Ok go deeper into history and if I am not wrong, Fengshui was being practiced long before Buddhism was being spreaded into China and as the time goes by the line got blurred and overlapped. Ancestorial worships, Fengshui, Taoism, Buddhism all influenced one another throughout the ages, resulting the way we see today. Cheers
  20. Hi, I hope to share my personal point of view in this discussion. From what little I understand, Fengshui is a series of ways or methods to harmonize ourselves with the surrounds to achieve good health, peace, prosperity etc etc in our lives. A large part of FS involve symbolism. Since Buddha is an ultimate "icon" (sorry if it seems offensive) of peace, compassion, enlightenment etc. What FS wants to achieve is to bring what Buddha symbolizes into the home. Ultimately, its all abt the occupants. For they may be buddhist or have tons of Buddha's statues, but if they do not practice Buddha's teachings, then it is wasted. On the other hand, a free thinker who lives along Buddha's teachings may reap the benefits of having a Buddha's statue at home. Feel free to comment and many cheers. PS..sorry long post and bad English
  21. From what I know, mirrors are generally used as a form of cures for some negative FS in the house, example, it can bring it more light to brighten the dim areas in the house. However, there are adverse effects if located wrongly (ie, facing the frong door) So its best to consult the expert. Cheers
