  1. Hey Renotalkers! I've been reading the T-blogs for ages now and finally it seems like its time for me to start my own! Got shackled to the lovely missus a month ago and now we're embarking on an exciting journey to build our very first home. We actually decided on the house late last year. We were torn between a smaller (and cheaper) 4 rm in Marine Parade with all its brilliant amenities; or a somewhat unknown area of Cassia Crescent which was quiet and closer to the city. At first we were leaning towards Marine Parade since they only had corridor units available in Cassia that could be sold to Chinese. But then on our regular trawl of propertyguru we suddenly found a 5 room @ Cassia that we were eligible for! We were previously only looking at 4 rooms but when I saw that one i immediately searched online for the floorplan and fell in love. Unlike the 5 rooms in marine parade, this layout had no odd wall that I couldn't use. It already had a balcony which i love and just suited our lifestyle needs perfectly. In fact, I think I half decided on the place based on the floor plan alone! haha. Being really close to the HUGE hawker center helps too. And we hope that the new stadium will bring more life and amenities to the area. Already we see a number of cool coffeshops / pubs popping up in geylang. But this isn't a property forum! It's a reno one! So here is our floorplan! Well, the actual house will be horizontally inverted but this was ripped off the net. HDBFloorPlan-CassiaCrescent by dwinsplace, on Flickr

  3. I'm also thinking of going without a gate but the mrs doesn't feel safe. Now I'm pondering how to get 2 digital systems, without looking too chunky, and still having ease of use without all the extra keys or fumbling w phone apps
  4. I just thought of something. What locking solution do you use for your gate? Or did you decide not to have a gate at all?
  5. Pls share what your HT setup is like! I'm planning one now and I'm wondering about connections and stuff. Most likely getting a AC Ryan media player which will hook up to AVR. Along w my cable set top box and tv. Then pump out the video signal from AVR to tv, and the audio signal to a 2.1 system. Decided against 5.1 since my stuff mostly downloaded so prob wouldn't be 5.1 compatible. Heh heh. You going w the Bose lifestyle system I presume?
  6. That's great to hear! Just found out that kevo is only for iPhones tho so will hold back for now since the wife is on android. Wonder if it's the GPS in the phone that helps to tell if we are inside or outside... Hmm. Thanks for the review tho! Keeps things in perspective.
  7. Hey soloqueen! Very nice industrial touches. U got me looking at smart locks too! Checked out goji and August locks also but it seems that kevo is the only one that's ready for use on the market. The others are still in development. Can I ask how the kevo performs? Was it easy to set up? Read that the calibration can be tricky. Esp the bit where it detects that you are inside vs outside the door so it doesn't open when you go to answer the door for a stranger. An overall review would be awesome before I decide to get one myself!
  8. Very nice! Clean with stylish industrial touches. Can u pm me your Reno cost pls?
  9. Super mama! How much were those bar stools from TB? Comfy and good quality? Can link? Looking good!
  10. I searched tabao for the MR16 LEDs and I know what you're talking about now. But they only seem to sell the bulbs. Can't find the spotlight holders. Or maybe thats not how they work? haha. Clueless. Solid wood top w trestle base works as a study! But not sure how the top would be attached? Screwed on?
  11. Ah that means that the tracks are generally interchangeable? Just cheaper from china! Yeah the only way i can think of is to get the same as the RT users too! But I like to research so feel a bit handicapped. haha. Thanks for the advice on the MR16. I definitely want LED lights cos it's more energy efficient. Is your light colour warm? Or are LEDs just LEDs without colour?
  12. Hi supermama! Lots of ppl seem to be using tabao and I went to the site to check stuff out. How did you search for items though?! My chinese really not very good so reading was impossible and google translate didn't really make sense sometimes. Also, how did you know which tracks/LED lights to buy for your house? Did your ID tell you what length and type you needed? I'm worried about technicalities and getting the wrong ones that won't fit each other etc.
  13. My family uses KDK too and I've had the wobble also. But it's been 10 years and it's still spinning happily! So no worries Supermama!
  14. Glad your plumbing problem has been fixed. Sounds like a fairly easy fix but he really should have known that it would cause problems doing the first configuration! Thats what they get paid for! Can't imagine if u had put clothes in for a cycle as you washed your dinner dishes.... Soy sauce on your clothes?!
  15. Thanks for that! Yeah i'm sure they would go for 'easy' solutions and tell you things like "thats how its always done". Good on you for pushing the envelope. Raw pipes can be pretty, but aircon trunking hasn't quite made it on that aesthetic list. haha. I'll make sure to have a chat with my future ID/aircon guy. Thanks for the Opennet comment also. I guess the electrician should know what to do to make room for them. Just that my flat to be is a pretty old one and i'm keen to hide as much of this sorta trunking as possible so i was concerned about when they needed to come to maybe hide the stuff in walls or in ceilings as you did.
  16. Hey vicx been following your blog for a while now and well done on nailing your scandustrial look! Can I ask when the opennet guys came to lay their fibre optics? Which stage of your Reno? And I'm also v keen to hear how you hid the aircon trunking!
  17. Hi there! I'm really new to this forum but I keep seeing ppl talk about tabao. How do u know what to order? It's so technical! And I can't read the Chinese... Lol. Can't even search for stuff properly. Do you guys have special methods?
