  1. loving the inspiring colors. i'm also inclined towards blue and grey....although i started out wanting tiffany blue or turquoise good luck choosing an ID and update us soon!
  2. vicx1234, i was in JB over the weekend too! We left Singapore just before 9am already got jam! Went to YES Electrical at Pelangi to get KDK baby fans and Hwa Ann to get lights. What did you get??
  3. last night i met with a contact for woodworks referred to me by another RT blogger. he created a wooden table for her. i think a few other bloggers also using him. was planning to sand down my mahogany dining table and bed in my current house in a bid to cut costs since it's good wood. but it seems the table top is not all solid wood so if sand down, i run the risk of making it thin and unsafe. i wanted to sand it down to rough it up from its current smooth finishing so i don't need to worry about scratching the surface in future. initially we'd wanted to get a brand new solid wood table but felt it was a waste of this current one. getting a new table in this size with teak would cost just under $2000. same thing with the bed. it's solid wood in some parts and it is our matrimonial bed so quite sad to see it go. the other option was chemical wash but i'm not sure what color it would turn to. and the chemical wash is more expensive than sanding it down. decision...decisions...
  4. hi redder, i'm not yet a SAHM but almost there! hopeful to be able to watch my kids full-time but my hubby is not 100% onboard yet. and the discussion continues.......... cannot wait to see the black sparkly tiles up! someday when all these reno activities are over, i will jio you come my house in tampines for tea...more further than PUNGGOL where my current house is. LOL!
  5. thanks vicx1234 and redder. please don't be surprised that my hubby picked those tiles. my initial picks was something very plain like light and dark grey or something like that. i'm very conservative lol! if the kraus sink meets your needs, i strongly urge you to go get it. in fact, engage amazon live chat and ask them if they can waive your shipping fees. they waived mine, but could be cos it was my first time ordering. it should ship for free to singapore but i think it's very heavy that's why i had to ask them since it wasn't automatically done. before this purchase, i went to home niche near ubi and was keen to get a promo of $298 for lizen sink with damixa faucet. that would have been my second choice. just sharing ideas
  6. on other news, my 32-inch undermount Kraus sink which I ordered last Friday from Amazon arrived just 3 days later on Monday night! Love it! Now waiting for the Kohler faucet to arrive...
  7. MBR toilet. we initially wanted blue swimming pool mosaic tiles at the shower area in this toilet where the cement screed currently is but yesterday we realized it totally won't match! don't know what hubby was thinking but i blamed it on the fatigue of looking at tiles as we decided after like about 4 hours! so we asked our contractor nicely if we can just have the same white shiny tiles instead and the "carpet" tiles as the accent in a recessed area of the wall. luckily he said OK. this toilet will have no door because the wardrobe is built just outside so hubby wants to use the sliding door of wardrobe to cover the toilet. sigh..i'm not too happy about that but he's not ready to listen. will pick this battle another day closeup of the "carpet" floor tiles:
  8. updates from the new house: new store room up with the hollow blocks. we actually hacked down the initial store room because we wanted more light into the kitchen, and placed the store right next to the house entrance. it has a similar layout as our current punggol house bomb shelter/store room but much smaller. hubby told me that HDB officer called him and said we cannot have this "room" but we explained it's not a bedroom but a store room. i told the contractor to deal with the HDB officer, still pending a reply. study room resized. putting up a glass panel where the space is and sliding/bifold nyatoh doors on the right side. i'm getting very worried about the living area (left area in the pic) not getting enough light. living area is between the store room and study. common toilet tiles up. i LOVE it. looks much nicer in real life. we're using bifold door for this toilet so the tiler left a strip at the entrance kerb for the bifold frame to fit in. hubby is not so happy with it, he keep saying we should use glass door but our contractor say the shower area is very close to the door so the water might splash and trickle out onto the floor. we're using HERF outside but i really don't want to test their durability! also noticed that the frame of the toilet have no tiles - very odd because in my current punggol house we have tiles on the frame but we're using glass door so not sure if that's the reason. anyone else with feedback?
  9. plainsharon, i'm sorry i don't mean to LOL but really LOL! common sense ain't that common after all! get them to come back and fix that for sure! the other pic i think your frustration is the hairy/furry bits of paint? i had that when i self-painted my grill at my current grill. that's right, me the amateur doing self-painting, and i thought it was because of my brush. any others who can give feedback?
  10. love your black aluminium toilet bifold door. my contractor said there's no black aluminium door leh...did you have it specially made?
  11. hi iceage, sorry this is a little late as i read you already got your storage heater. shouldn't be a problem cos the bar pressure of HDB flats is sufficient for rain showers. i live on the 2nd floor currently and using joven storage heater, my hubby loves the rain shower and no problem. also ready in another t-blog that owner stay at 6th floor and another at 16th floor also no problem. now for the new house hubby wants to get city gas heater, i told him poor thing, later the children shower the water sometimes hot sometimes cold. he's not convinced because he says the storage heater is very bulky. and the discussion continues.... just to share something else about buying electrical stuff in JB. I went to Hwa Ann last Sunday, also another popular spot as I wanted to get the KDK fans which are half the price in JB vs Singapore. The allowance per person is SGD150 for every 48 hours (I'm not sure why it's not SGD400). wanted to get the downlights too but hubby only wants Philips and his friend owns a lighting shop so have given him another quote thus he want to review that first. if you tell the shopowner you are from Singapore, they will write an invoice for you so easier to pay GST if necessary. we ended up not buying anything cos they didn't have my KDK fans in white and the lights we wanted also no stock. also read somewhere that in case of fire (TOUCH WOOD!) house insurance will not cover if products not bought from Singapore. i'm dubious about this one to be honest but will not argue with it.
  12. my hubby almost went for the sparkly black square tile next to your peranakan tiles, very nice right? but his wifey's contract is only to look after 2 kids and 2 cats, cook meals and basic house cleaning so anything too complicated/must clean extra due soap scum etc kena chop unless he want to pay for part-time maid. plus my kids favorite room is the toilet so can't risk them scratching themselves against the wall (we wanted to use it as accent wall) and believe you me, they will find a way to scratch themselves one. hahaha!
  13. hi plainsharon, congrats on almost finishing all reno work! you must be so excited! seeing that you took 3 months, i'm getting worried. i also got a popular contractor and to me the layman, progress could be much faster. although my hubby say everything is on track and i'm the gan cheong one luckily you not caught by CNY holiday. my works started end Dec and i'm hopeful for a handover end Feb plus there's the 2 weeks break when all workers will be on leave. and i'm overhauling the whole place some more so there's a lot of work. so far, today tiling works are being done in my 2 toilets. i'm also using Evorich HERF, was quoted $6.20 at expo and some more i'm doing whole house so total cost is almost $10k . now will push them to give me $6! like i've always told my friends, nobody has the perfect reno story. at some point, there will be frustration. what makes a situation bad or good is your attitude towards it, so these days if things are not moving much as quickly as i'd like it to, i shop for small things online. even if it means adding one item to my Peeka list. even with the positivity, i'm getting very worried because i need to vacate my current house by 22 Feb and i don't think works will be done by then. i don't want to rush the work but hubby and i will really have nowhere to stay, plus we have 2 small kids and 2 cats. seems we already need to put our stuff in storage, plus move twice and in the meantime have to tompang my mum house. i really don't like this mentality of "cannot promise a handover date" because it puts everything in limbo. but i have trust in my contractor who has been nothing but patient so far with me, and trust in God. another thing i cannot complain about my contractor, he really gives me the best rates. every time i think i can get better rates outside for windows, grilles, doors or most recently granite, i have found his rates are either lower or not much difference. given the work we are doing, the initial quote was very scary but it really can't be helped cos the area is bigger since it's a resale and some works cannot be avoided e.g. hacking, make good, plastering etc. so from now on, i'm going to leave it in his good hands. i'm so sorry this turned out to be a rant post , but i just thought i'd share my experience to others who may or may not be using mr K - indeed it could be worst. but we chose the good ones for a reason, so i hope all our journeys will be smooth mostly, and where there are bumps, may we be granted patience to go through it
  14. Thanks dearie, will send hubby to have a look at it today. I think part of the problem is we cannot decide if we want a white or black fan, or maybe can we live with a grey fan. Not that there's anything wrong with grey but just that I want to stick to the monochrome palette as much as possible. Plus a black fan doesn't show when it's dirty so I can get a little lazy with the cleaning. What an idea! Thanks Makan, I will try that. Not sure if possible now though cos hubby already spoke to them and it seems they've opened our case. Will try anyway. yes mad love for this armchair! and much more comfy than Papa Bear imho. I liked it in red/vermilion but the As-Is set was in grey so I settled for it. I'm such a sucker for deals!
  15. Thanks OceanEleven. I went ahead and bought it right after I posted the pic cos I had free shipping for my Kraus sink so wanted to tag the order along. Hopefully it will be ok. kim76, I will look out for it and update if I got it. My sink and faucet is due for delivery anytime this week!
  16. Btw, yesterday I went to JB to get our fans from Hwa Ann. I think YES at Tampoi can offer lower prices but we opted for convenience and I think YES is closed on Sundays. So to share what we shortlisted (didn't buy cos there was no stock): 4 x Baby KDK 44-inches in White for 3 bedrooms and Study Room. We were quoted RM350 each. In Singapore, a similar model but 48-inches is selling cheapest for $193. All prices exclude installation which is approximately $50-60 per fan unit. And 2 of these for the living room. Hubby wants to get white fans only, so might not get these in JB as they only sell silver/grey except in white for the cheaper/smaller models. Was quoted RM420 each and Singapore is selling for $263 each --> white or grey. Difference is about $100 per fan unit. I've only used Crestar in my current house which comes in black but hubby said he don't like the dangling beaded string to regular fan speed. Might consider Amasco as there's a black on but at a whopping $700 per unit! Plus I would need to get at least 6 fans. Any other ideas for a pure black or white fan at a reasonable price? I just want it to look neat. Lemming for the Haiku but don't think hubby will agree....
  17. Apparently, their policy is to deliver within 3 days of the order. Any additional day will be charged storage $20 per day. The only reason I got away with a later delivery date is because during the sale, there were many orders so there was a bit of a backlog. Sigh..just got a quotation from Elite Movers. To move 40 boxes, 1 Fisher and Paykel fridge and 2 IKEA children bed would cost me $830 --> $380 from my current house to their storage, $150 for 2 weeks storage and $300 from storage to my new house. And these are rates for return customers!
  18. also purchased the bookcase in below colour but in slightly different setup:
  19. Just posting updates. Not much happening except screeding. I blame it on the holidays haha! Honestly, the pace is very worrying. I hope they can finish tiling by this week. I'm only tiling my service yard and 2 toilets, all others will have vinyl flooring so just need to get the screeding done. We went a little crazy at the IKEA sale 2 weeks ago when they were offering $35 off for every $300 purchase so we already bought the items below. Now we have a big headache where to house them as IKEA is making the first delivery this Thursday for armchair (bought from As-Is so it's already assembled) and Trendig chair. Next delivery is next Monday and was supposed to be sent to the new house but my contractor said cannot place there cos the works will be very dusty. Sigh.....what am I going to do? I'm considering getting a storage unit at Storhub or something. Which means more money..... Trying to cheer myself up by posting pics of what we bought: Armchair from As-Is Dining chair. I'm getting 6 different black ones so these are 2 of them. Kitchen island. Was going to ask contractor to build this as part of carpentry but it was going to cost $2000+. So we scrapped it then we saw this as IKEA. So we decided to get it. Right after paying for it during the sale, I walked back in and found an assembled piece with "scratches" (I couldn't see any) so I refunded my purchase and bought the As-Is one instead for a $400. Since it's assembled, this is also a headache where to house!
  20. Thanks amirahpaul for the details re the sofa and window grille. We also have sliding windows and since I've lived with casement windows for a long time, I forgot that with sliding windows, some panels will remain closed at any point. Will share with my hubby the idea about the varying grills, cos it was getting too technical for me We were just thinking to re-upholster my sofa since Muffy and Coco will scratch them again anyway but they've been with me for almost 5 years now so you'd think they'd have learnt by now! So still need to get fabric with minimal scratching possibilities.
  21. come meet my precious fur-kids, ragamuffins: Muffy and Coco Lisa (calico)
  22. welcome amirahpaul and fellow fur-mummy! haha! i have 2 ragamuffins and 2 little girls so my house has to be cat-friendly and kid-friendly hehe... MAD LOVE for the black fan - is it Haiku?
  23. just made an order for my 32-inch Kraus kitchen sink. wanted to get this faucet as well but I'm not sure if the price tag is worth it. Just over $300! But I love that it's black and it's Kohler - so I'm sure it will last long right? Trying to justify the purchase through a longer depreciation period It says only 3 left in stock!!
  24. not much to share since past week and a half was hacking and making good work: living/dining/study room. there used to be a wall where the wires are dangling. we hacked it to make a small study and to expand the living area: The kitchen. DB box is dangling because there used to be a store room there but we hacked it and moving the store/shoe cabinet right next to the gate. Kitchen is so much brighter now! On the right wall we've have 3 larder units --> one for oven and microwave, one for pantry stuff and another for pots and other seldom used big items. Since we don't have an ID, my husband has been deliberating on the kitchen design for weeks. Small things like planning how many drawers or cabinet doors are decisions we have to make ourselves. Luckily we have some experience from the current house so we design based on our current needs. This means we also have to figure out the drawer configurations on our own. Glad we've sorted most of that for now. Master bedroom. Toilet looks awfully dark so I'm thankful I changed my mind about having grey tiles. We'll have an opening with a bifold door between this and the children's room next door because my girls are so young and will need the toilet at night. I can't have them on diapers forever! Haha! We're planning to have Closet Design to do a pole system closet on the right wall with sliding doors in L shape and it will end just before the toilet entrance. Hubby wants to cover the toilet with the closet door so we won't have a toilet door and instead have the sliding closet door to cover that. I'm not too comfortable with the idea because of moisture attacks, plus how are we going to lock the toilet door? Any other ideas anyone?
