You see, kids tend to be more tuned in towards their environment ma. so what they take in is through the culture and environment, naturally it is more natural for them to speak in the most commonly spoken language at home right? This means that if they're strong in their mother tongue, it is a little different as they don't speak english as much as they'd like at home, mostly with their friends & outside. But its short form english or singlish if you pay more attention. There is the small group of kids whom can switch languages effortlessly without having any bad grammar or pronounciation. If you guys think back to your own learning education & the environment laat time as a student, what do you think?

IMHO, If Chinese is the mother tongue & the only language being spoken in the house & everywhere, then english language have to be cultivated for kids in lessons since they don't lose out in chinese with it being spoken mainly.

Keke but you need to upgrade yourself as a dad too. Most of us have at one point thought of our parents as "old fashioned" in a sense cos cannot relate to this and that until we have kids. That why we cannot make the same mistake again with our future kids too.

Kids have to get started on Languages early as possible when they're very young so that they will recognise alot of words easily. Its what you call 'word' imprint. Thats why alot of schools make use of the memory skills to come out with excellent results for kids. Phonetics is an example. Picture cards is also another way to do it. Word games like scrabble also helps & its ok to carry a dictionary to phrase alot of things. Kids learn through spelling first before forming sentences. That is why spelling is a important step & once mastered, its really easy to get them started on reading.

Darrenelle, no hurry to burn hole very fast regarding my suggestion. Your place is there for you guys to enjoy for sometime so you both can take your time to save & spend at a time to do up based on your preference. I agree kids are nowdays facing alot of stress in their school life & the burden of the parents expectations on them to do well in life. Just don't spoil them like this because heart pain to see kid stressed out. There must be some discipline instilled though. Fact is, raising a kid up will naturally bring about high expectations of the child to do well after all human beings have limited lifespan. Wow, your house is very nicely done, simple & chic full of quirky stuff. The cement screeding & your MBR bedhead feature wall is very good. I think you can dress up your living room with some quirky stuff besides books or cds on the standing shelf & a artistic picture to hang on the wall where your sofa is at.

The study table looks great but would be even nicer if it was suspended like that. That is my dream study table if I do hack my study room wall for a glass partition like yours.

Pink and white is ok colour combination but white colour will 'absorb' the pink colour reflected on it, making it look more pink than white actually. Also dark colours for wardrobe interior means more maintenence cos need to air the clothes once in a while as those dust moulds appear in patches that are more obvious on darker shades. I can get freaked out myself seeing those dust moulds appearing on the interior of my wardrobe after a week! (My wardrobe is all walnut brown, so very easy to see white patches le) Need to clean everytime & air as much as possible.

Pikitsch, not to worry about the free items first. What you have to decide is which one you want to take? Ideal House & Ho Bee have good reputation but frankly is all about how comfortable are you willing to entrust your house to whom to do the job? Then the consideration of free items comes in. If you taking IDEAL house for the aircons, you got to check what brand of the aircon is in their promo before taking either aircon or kitchen cabinet. Personally, if it is me, I will opt for the kitchen cabinets since the kitchen is really ex. Must squeeze the best value for the $ CPE, lol. never mind, enjoy watching your kid grow up first. It's a heartwarming feeling & reminiscient of our own growing phases.

Kids are very adorable, can be considered a valuable treasure next to assets since parents spend a fortune to raise their kids up not to mention the medical bills, insurance. Yup at west ave 3 there. Considered new since the cluster of flats were left vacant for 5-6 yrs due to oversupply as mentioned before. That's probably one of the good things to have everything new? Yep got 2 feeder buses that stop directly outside 2xx cluster. One of them goes direct to the MRT station but considered slow to reach the station comparing to other feeder buses that stop at the main road which is nearer to the police HQ div & sheng siong there.

Sort of, it gives the home a cosy feeling but alot of care and maintenence has to go into it 'cos laminated flooring cannot come into contact with water or else spoil very fast. Considering that the weather is very unpredictable also, we have to ensure all windows are closed before leaving for work everyday. Laminate flooring won't spoil due to kids' mischief lol. Just have to be more viligant though. And yes, Ho Bee does provide good service, in fact minimal supervision required cos patrick will definitely make sure its done properly before handover.
