PARTIAL FURNISHING Over the weekend, we borrowed a van and did some diy moving of furniture into our new place. This includes key items like sofa, TV console and TV (all free! ) . We also made a trip to ikea to purchase our dining table. TV console is an old BESTA originally used in my parents' home. We switched out the drawer face from glossy red to white oak. As the item is too old (aka there has been amendments to the product since then), we ended up having to buy new drawer frames as well. Will need to make another trip to ikea to buy new drawer tracks too. From the pic, you'll be able to tell that the drawers don't align properly currently. Haha Sofa is from my sister who decided to switch out her couch for two ikea armchairs. Thus we got this for free. This pouffe from HipVan took crazy long to be delivered (2 months zzz) but it's the cheapest I've found and they have a wide range of colours! You guys should check out their site. Also pending more fluffy cushions for the couch. I've already bought 8 cushion cases (and counting).. King thinks I'm somewhat crazy. Dining table from ikea which can extend up till 2.2m. Chairs and bench from taobao. All lovingly built by hand. Very pleased with the quality of the TB items

Hello! Our fridge has a width of 75cm and the cabinets should be about 1.8m (didn't measure). Not sure if a blum space tower can fit though. It'll be best to consult your ID/contractor for confirmation

Quick update on the kitchen: IKEA shelves are up and fridge just got delivered today. The fridge is an absolute monster (so big!) in our little kitchen. But still very happy to get what I wanted, which is french doors and bottom freezer. Plus in white! Before this I was still thinking that the laminate chosen for the kitchen is slightly too stark white in tone, but the fridge wound up looking even 'whiter' than the cabinets haha. Much of this week was spent building our taobao & ikea furniture after work. The tiredness is real, guyzzz. We should be moving our sofa & tv console in by this weekend, and will be getting our dining table as well. The final portion of electrical works is still pending the arrival of the new led light strips, which should arrive by this or next week hopefully. Fingers crossed!

Hahah I see, never did I think that the 'change' was in your mind! Depends on what you want for the design of your home. Many used black lightings and it turned out beautiful! I'm sure it'll be the same for your home. We wanted the cleaner look and tried to ensure as much white accessories as possible. That being said, my track lights are white but the tracks don't match their colour 100% also lol. But if don't hiam it's fine cause I'm sure no one will scrutinize the ceiling to this extent Let me know which is your t-blog (when it's updated)! Wanna see see your progress too~

Tiling costed about $7.5~$8k for living room and all bedrooms, including cement screeding. The tiles we picked are $3psf. PMed you. Glass installer I won't be sharing the contact as we've had multiple issues for the installation of my shower screen. They came by ytd for the third time and yet another problem popped up won't recommend till everything is resolved.

Hello!! You are back! Haven't seen you around in awhile. Yay! Congrats on starting on your reno. Why'd you use a different account for your tblog? Haha Ive always handled TB purchases as being one-wayy to sg~ how'd you manage to change the colour? Did the seller or you bear the shipping fees for sending the lights to and fro sg? Bought my lights from here: https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=531159314848 E did say that lighting tracks are not universal and we should buy the lights + tracks from the same seller. But I'm not sure how true this is also. We provided our own ventilation fan and it cost about $400-$500 to change both toilets' windows. Not sure if it'll be cheaper if you don't have a fan installed though!

Our First Reno Journey
kingandbin replied to osiris7777's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat - HDB BTO Interior Design and Renovation
Hahaha the place he brought us to view had mirrors on the doors of the db cabinets which we seriously considered doing as well. Monkey see, monkey do We really are on the same timeline! But my chemical wash was done before the toilet bowls & accessories. And yay, please do update with more pics! Cannot wait to see how your place looks with some furnishings in! -
We chose the 7W option as I read somewhere online that 7W is the 'right' wattage for living room track lights - but please don't quote me on this haha. I have a friend who used 12W track lights which illuminated the area well but the lights turned out really chunky! The ones we got do not have any wires (prefer this as wires trap dust) and are small & cute! The row closest to the windows are white lights, while we used warm white for the remaining ones. You can see the difference in colour temperature from where they illuminate the floor in the pic below. Personally, I prefer warm white lighting so we are thinking of switching up maybe 1 or 2 of the lights for the row at the window so the colour temperature is less cold.

CLEAN & ALMOST READYY (FOR HANDOVER) Guyzzz never thought I'd say this but the reno is almost complete. But the key word is almost. Haha. Can't wait for it all to be done- I'm getting tired of this whole process and just want the furnishings to be in asap The PD door for master bathroom was installed yesterday and they did chemical cleaning for the place today. Previously, if we stomped on the ground clouds of dust will emerge (we liked to pretend they felt like special effects but the dust became annoying after awhile lah). Anyway! It's better by leaps and bounds now. We still need to put in more muscle to clean the place properly but we can move about barefooted already! So happy! The remaining layers of paint plus outstanding accessories and shelves will be done by this week & we have been tasked to look out for any defects for carpentry too. Those we spotted so far have been quite minor, but we've raised it to Contractor E already. We are also still waiting for our new order of LED lights from Taobao to come in. Ordered them on 11/11 via Ezbuy Prime and they are still pending inspection by the agent in China omgg. The previous ones we ordered were extra thick and sturdy (lol), thus were not suitable to be used under the kitchen cabinets because they were too wide to fit and couldn't bend well. So we are waiting for them to come in before electricians can finish up the last bits and fix up our remaining switches. Of course, the swing door portion of the shower screen is outstanding as well. Master toilet's fully louvered door: Previously didn't even consider this but the husband mentioned that not only will there be good ventilation from the gaps in the door, the sound of the shower might possibly be loud enough to wake the other party who is sleeping in the room (?!?) can anyone with similar bathroom doors please share your experience? With toilet bowl, bidet, tap, accessories all installed: I think this is my favourite area so far! -- Rainshower and toiletries shelves with our beloved feature wall : Common bathroom shower area: Rest of the bathroom's stuff such as towel bar, hanging hooks etc are all black. We like how it turned out! But... we picked a white mirror hoping it'll match the wall tiles and it turned out kinda meh instead. Maybe some plants or little accessories will have it look nicer? Will report back with pictures after we successfully spruce up the area. Hahahah. Finally, our oldest piece of furniture has been unboxed! But not connected to the water source yet as the piping/head isn't compatible. Also, as you can see here the service yard is really narrow. Both sides of the service yard has double pipes running through which leaves little usable space.

Our First Reno Journey

Oooohh the shelves + enclave of the db area look so functional. Super envious that I didn't think of this idea too! From the look of things, after painting touch ups should be more or less done already right? Have you started arranging for furnitures to come in? -
Hehe thank you!! We like grey flooring but preferred something more cozy for the living area. So picked both for different areas! In person, the panel's thickness seems normal. Might look that way because the photo was taken from a distance

GLASS WORKS Here to share a little about the progress of glassworks! We managed to source for a supplier for who offered their products + installation about 35-40% lower than what all the contractors quotes we received. Plus their reviews online looked fine so we decided to try them out. Our kitchen glass door was fabricated and installed right on schedule (yay!) but the bathroom's shower screen has met with some challenges The first time they came down for installation, we found out that the size of the fixed panel they fabricated had an issue so they had to return again with a new piece for installation. On their second visit (different pair of workers came), the workers found that the dimensions of the hole cut outs for the other piece has issues and so took it back for rectifications. Now, we're waiting to confirm the third installation date I'm beginning to wonder if the cost savings is worth all the trouble. Sigh pie. Anyway, here's our bathroom with the lone fixed panel: And an extra pic of the walkway/living room flooring + bedroom flooring. Brown and grey! Chemical wash this week then we can finally start assembling some furniture pieces and arrange for our sofa to be moved in (by us - diy moving service hahah). Can't wait!

Ooh that's so convenient! Never heard of such a thing before. After time the strainer always feels a little slimy even if we clear it after every meal. I hate clearing it out with my bare hands

Actually since the Hitachi and Mitsubishi are different in terms of the number of doors/drawers you can decide based on the functionality of the fridges! Haha yes, I was also thinking that if you got the black fridge your kitchen might be a wee bit darker. Nowadays alot of our appliances probably won't last us more than 7-10 years. Our needs will change and for fridges, we may outgrow their size by then. Within these number of years even if they do yellow I'm sure it'll be slightly only. That's why I picked a white fridge (Hitachi tempered glass!) too - for aesthetics purposes and maybe also delusional that it hopefully won't yellow much in its lifespan of usage hahaha.
-
Your home is looking super gorgeous and I really love your kitchen and toilets! The knight grey wall @ your dining area matches the kitchen cabinets well. If you decide to go for the hitachi fridge, I'd vote for white! It'll match nicely with your marble backsplash and countertop. But if you're going for the mitsubishi then maybe black seems more sleek. Try and see if you can find the colours for these models in person cause grey/stainless steel for certain models may either turn out shiny or matte and the look can be quite different from photos!

Hihi! I saw your t-blog, your double sink looks really functional too We like our single bowl large sink cause it can accommodate two people washing dishes together by side by side. Plus pots and pans of any size can fit! Nope, it didn't come with such accessories (though I wish it had!). The only special item it came with is the sponge holder and huge strainer basket (can fit an apple or two) which makes clearing food bits really easy. Haha.
