  1. you don't have to change the whole lockset, can change only the inset (not sure if this is what it's call...the part where you insert the key)...locksmiths can do it
  2. I did that. my locksmith did it, but he only does it for regulars. you can try asking around. If you have the same key for all, and you lose your key, you can choose to change only 1, 2, or all 3 locks. If you have different keys for all, when you lose your bunch of keys, it's also the same isn't it?
  3. I had my experience with SP services too. Bought a new hob and got SP services to connect the gas to the hob and to turn on the gas. After doing so, the electrician told us the hob has problem. When the gas knob was released, the flame was very small. He told us it was a problem with the hob, can get the manufacturer's agent to adjust, and it should be fine. Eventually, it was found out that the hob was faulty, and had to be changed. So, I had to call SP services to turn off the gas, and then when we had replaced the hob, make another appt to turn it on again. While making 2nd turn on appt, the customer service officer checked the records and out of concern, asked why we had turned it on, and then off, and then on again in just a short period of 2 weeks. I explained to her our situation and she offered to waive the 2nd installation charge. Although it later was not reflected in our bill and I have to make several calls to follow up on it, SP services eventually kept their word and waived it in my latest bill. It's just $50, but it was a nice surprise and good initiative.
  4. the tile on the left was cleaned with the magic sponge. that is kitchen tile and i left the grout alone. i only cleaned the grout for the MBR and living room but i did not take before and after pics. i did not clean the grout for kitchen and other rooms...very tedious to clean line by line you know?
  5. I belong to the group which prefers standing fans, because 1) more convenient and easier to clean. I wash them about every month and I don't have to climb up and down. 2) can turn to blow at wherever we are. 3) there are shadows from the ceiling fans, and it just doesn't make me feel comfy seeing something spinning above my head, especially when some hdb flats' ceilings are not exactly high 4) aesthetically speaking, I don't like to see a fan stuck on my ceiling. I like the ceiling bare Having said all these, my MIL has a ceiling fan at her place. It is more breezy and quieter than a standing fan (especially at higher speed)...but at the end of the day, I still prefer standing fans (not tower fans though, tower fans are useless)
  6. Hi, this is the magic sponge I used I tear a small piece and wet it with some water and scrub the grout. The sponge will get smaller and smaller, as I rinse it regularly with water. I use it to clean other things too, like laminate surfaces. I used it to scrub my kitchen tiles when I took over my resale flat, and this is the result
  7. I use the magic sponge from Daiso. Works better than bleach for my case. But, MUST wear rubber gloves.
  8. hi! thanks for sharing the information! I have got a wooden rice bin and have been using for a month. So far so good, no rice bugs. My mum was using a airtight plastic bin but there were still rice bugs, until we read somewhere that putting cloves of garlic with the rice helps. We have been doing that, and since then, there have been no rice bugs in both the wood and plastic bins. Maybe you can try!
  9. I'm using Dentons. Has been good for the past few years. Can get at Takashimaya, Robinsons, BHG etc. I bought at $90+ few years back. Last check, the price is now $100+.
  10. Hi! Mine is 92sqm, only 2sqm difference. Think I had viewed another unit which is a mirror image of your layout. I found the kitchen quite challenging, and not much place to hang clothes and put my stuff. We have false ceiling in the house, but it's done by the previous owner. Dun think HDB will do the false ceiling. Which floor are you on? I dun mind measuring but mine is top floor, the ceiling is higher than the rest. So, if I measure, might not ne useful to you. Sent you a PM too, on my reno
  11. ya, 482 is near to mine, where is yours facing, the open field? this place is indeed serene and the residents are pretty young. i am surprised to see so many pple jogging and walking in the mornings and evenings! so on! my layout totally different from yours. we engaged a contractor, and we really did very little. So all those i read and learnt on renotalk, din all come into use hahaha!
  12. hi! welcome! which block will you be staying in? should be resale too? used to stay just opp bt panjang plaza, so hv to get used to the reduced convenience here. mine is a 4room. we renovated a little only, because most things are move-in condition, but can share whatever I know. will you be renovating the whole place?
  13. thanks for the reply! i guess it's because they are costly, so households here don't resort to these type of windows? Can i know how effective they are? As in, the noise was initially very loud (like over your head) and now you can still here it, but softly? Or you cannot hear it anymore? I'm sorry if my question sounds stupid. I cannot imagine how much noise is reduced. My flat is facing the expressway I wonder if all the noise will be blocked out. Thanks in advance!
  14. this thread seems to be quite dead, but just thought of saying hi to everyone staying here. I just moved here not long ago, and am staying at blk 479. Just curious, every morning, I see people queuing up by the road at about 7.30-7.45am. Are they waiting for some buses? If so, where do the bus go? Anyone has more information on them? Thanks!
  15. Hi, I live beside the expressway and the traffic noise can get rather loud. Want to know whether anyone has tried double glazed windows and whether they work? TIA
  16. hi thanks! i tried those "chapalang" shops but most of them also never sell! finally found one at hong lim.
  17. I thot highest unit shld have higher ceiling? My 4-room HDB unit is on top floor, and the ceiling is definitely higher. My curtain height are already more than 8.6ft and that is measuring from the false ceiling to the floor.
  18. hi! I like your curtains! can I know where you got them? thanks!
  19. are u looking for those ergonomic ones at v-hive? can try this place Comfort Furniture. there are more designs at their shop than on the webpage. http://www.comfortfurniture.com.sg/MainCTL...Office%20Chairs I bought mine from them when they were having a sale.
  20. wa kettle also must buy designer ah? hehe not too sure what designers you are looking for, but this looks quite sleek to me http://www.kenwoodworld.com/sg/product_det...=955&id=239
  21. I went to Hoe Kee at Macpherson (located at The Blue Building) to recce before. The SE told me prices "can be discussed". The SE was friendly and patient with explanations for the hobs and hoods too, not bad, though I did not buy from there in the end. In contrast, at the IMM outlet, a staff told me prices are fixed
