  1. Hello everyone! We have been silent readers of this community for quite awhile and started stalking t-blogs since more than a year ago - even before applying for our current flat! Bin of the #kingandbin duo has been interested in home decor for the longest time and has been browsing online forums/communities ever since Livejournal days. So you can say that she has been preparing for this even before knowing/meeting King . And yay! Our place is going to start renovations verrryyy soon. Thus we're here to share our experience! Home will be a 4-Room flat in Sengkang, in between the MRT station and our parents' place. It's approximately 6min by foot (or 1 bus stop) to the MRT and also about 6min by foot (or 1 bus stop too) where King currently stays with his parents. Here's the floor plan: It's a SOBF unit and we received the keys in mid February this year. We took our time to meet up with contractors and to think through (mainly Bin, King helps to make final decisions after she narrows options down ) about the works we would like to do for our home. We finally decided on & confirmed our contractor 2 weeks back. Work will commence just before the Lunar 7th Month begins. It's been a rather slow process so far but we are glad to get things started! Hope you join us on this t-blog as #kingandbin embarks on our exciting renovation journey for our first home! // HOME IN PHOTOS [BEFORE & AFTER] LIVING ROOM STUDY ROOM DRESSING ROOM MASTER BEDROOM KITCHEN COMMON BATHROOM MASTER BATHROOM CORRIDOR
  2. Hi everyone, we have been following renotalk for a couple of months now, and would like to first of all thank everyone for being so gracious as to share their stories so we first-timers know what to expect. Which is why my hubby and I thought why not share our journey with others too! After reading about the ups and downs many couples face, we are honestly very worried about how this will turn out. We don't have exactly a huge budget also.... So we finally got our keys to our new place at Dawson! Love love love the estate and how the flat actually looks so much like an EC Anyway, back to topic of choosing our id. Think we've read a little bit too much over the past few months until the point where we got confused... so in the end, we decided to go with the safest choice which is with the id who did my bestfriend's house. Their house is so incredibly well-done and we're really hoping ours will turn out just as well! *cross fingers* Plus, it was pretty reasonable considering everything was handled for by our id! During our first consultation with the id, we were asked what kind of look and feel do we like. After doing some research on pinterest/ the internet, we showed our id what we are looking for and specifically told him we want something "artistic yet cosy" you know how some places are really chic looking and stuff but not comfortable? We thought that's not how a house is supposed to be, if it's not cosy, the house is not really a home right? Haha. Here are some of the pics we drew inspiration from! Of course we're not expecting it to come out exactly like that la. Got to work within the budget... People please feel free to share with us some tips ok, we are beginning reno phase v v v soon, so any tips are well appreciated! 10Q!
  3. Hi guys! A and I have been reading up alot of renotalk during the past few months as we are finally settling down and starting our renovation journey. We purchased a 5 room resale flat and got our keys back in January 2015. Like many couples, we started to source for good Interior Designers or contractors (Mr. K) that have been recommended by people on forums. I believe we met about 8-10 firms and have about 15 quotations from different companies and individuals. The highly recommended ones and big names interior designers seem to be either 1. too expensiveor 2. too busy... Some interior designers which were quite "bo chup" and for which we have to chase for the quotation were dropped immediately. We started to branch out and get different quotations from reno websites. On the other hand, the unheard ones can be quite enthusiastic and at the lower range. However, we did not want to compromise on the quality of materials by going for the cheapest quotations. After months of deliberating, we have finally settled on a small interior design firm. Why did we choose this company? Indeed it is a leap of faith because we could not find any reviews on this company on the internet ! 1. their sincerity (P & B) in assuring us that they want to do a good job 2. quote is reasonable to us comparing to other interior designers and contractors (yes definitely more expensive than contractors.. at least $5k maybe? But I guess we are paying extra for the project management service..) 3. comfortable factor / does not mind spending hours with us thrashing out the details and revising the quotation multiple times 3. our quotation is 8 pages long haha! details are important! (Most contractors only gave us a 2 pager quotation) 4. some freebies... On hindsight... - ensure that you are comfortable with the payment terms (check what is the "market rate") This is our floor plan : Some inspirations: What the hubby wants:
