How Contractor Touchup On Timber Skirting?

Recommended Posts

I had just bought a new house with timber skirting installed and the timber skirting supposed to be new but yet many scratches and dull... so the skirting contractor came to touch up on this defect and end up painting the whole timber skirting which caused it to appear fake and the original timber wood color was covered up by the paint...

when i ask the contractor why is this so, he told me this is the normal way to touch up...

is that so???

you need to tell your contractor to PAINT or VARNISH.

paint = they will just paint it over with normal paint(cheap) or with wood paint(pay a little more).

overall such job is the cheapest.

varnish = they will sand and then revarnish, for skirtings think this will be expensive.

Change to new ones lah..... ask the contractor to change all for you.

maybe he will charge you about $300 - 400 for it, but it's worth it. brand new ones.

if still want to save $$, then varnish it. Dun paint it. Paint looks cheapo.

In my opinion, he is not supposed to charge you additional.

if your quotation includes skirting, they have to give you new skirting.

usually, skirting if they paint, that means the wood have problems.

what problems ???

usually the wood is not the same species as your flooring.

they use cheaper wood to replace.

others they use white wood like oak or nyatoh to replace teak skirting.

make sure firstly they use the right wood skirting.

then usually, they only need to varnish over it to protect the wood skirting.

that all.

if you do not like the color, usually they can sand it off and only need to varnish the wood.

color the wood or staining the wood only tells me that the wood is not the same as the flooring.

the contractor had sand off the paint and varnished the skirting but it seems that the paint had stained the skirting therefore after sanding and re-varnishing of the skirting, it still looks ugly...

now i thought of asking them to hack it off and install new ones...

does anyone knows the market rate for new timber skirting???

pls advise.

I got some quotations for flooring 4rm flat.

Got 2 quotes:

add wood skirting (dunno what type of wood) = add $300

Got 1 quote:

add nyatoh skirting = add $600

The nyatoh quote may be trying to chop me carrot, I don't know. But let u get a feeling of the numbers.
