Mery 3 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Which will you choose?I will go for the wireless cable modem coz tat way I can link up my laptop and desktop together for a game session. Plus point is tat router with cable modem does not require login whereelse wireless with ADSL need to. If you are wondering how ADSL uses normal telephone lines (wich are made from copper cables), normal phone lines use around 0-34KHz (speech). Since copper cables bandwidth is 1.1MHz and speech uses the lower frequency, ADSL uses the rest of the bandwidth for transferring data.If I am not wrong..normally 256KB/sec for data upload and 512KB/sec for downloads. That's also why you can use the same wire to talk on the phone and surf the internet at the same time. Also normal dial up modems do not allow that because they tap onto the same amount of bandwidth as speech on the telephone as both are using analog transmission. Thats y 56k is the limit..ADSL (Asymmetric digital subscriber line) as the name suggest, uses digital transmission.
