My White House

Recommended Posts

Thanks thanks. Ya but still haven got the chance to take a picture as they lay cupboard paper to protect the floor now.

I hope to move in after I come back from Taiwan which will be on 13 Dec. Hopefully by then everything is ok.

Annjoy, dont want to have a dark colour is because I have a phobia for lizards and I remember reading from some mag that says that darker tone invites lizards. Dont know if its true but I will just try as I am really scared of them.

Wah piang!!! That's some scary news!!

Today marks the start of my tiling day! Yipee!

Hopefully the tiling will be completed in 3 days time as i am leaving for Taiwan.

Will post some photo after today :D

Actually my reno s time is very rush. Started on 17th Nov and needs to completed before 4th Dec.

Hopefully my contractor will be able to finish in time so that I can fly without any worries.

By the way, would anyone be having a off white or white kitchen cabinet, any kind soul can tell me if its advisable?

Cos i have not confirm on the laminate colour

I using glossy white for my whole carpetry and even at kitchen.. If you really plan to use white. MUST use FORMICA white laminate as this is the best white available and is not from china or malaysia. It is from UK.

My Vote: FORMICA http://www.buildingdesign.co.uk/facil/formica/index.htm

Reason: Will not turn yellowish .. More durable... Glossy white is good.

As for the kitchen top. I using galaxy black granite instead, as I know that the surface solid top will not really last long and you cannot put HOT things on it. Even if stain with water it will cause some bloated surface if the COLD drinks is place on the solid top for toooo long...

My vote: Granite TOP~!

Oh ya.. don't take MARBLE... as MARBLE is absorbing STONE, will absorb even coke or red wine and STAIN the surface... IT may look nice but not durable...

Nothing last forever anyway. :) In the case of kitchen top, granite might last longer but the material characteristics doesn't give a modern feel especially if u are going to use white cabinets. My view is a modern kitchen should either use solid surface top or stainless steel. Gd points of solid surface top is more colors to complement your kitchen color theme. A more 'glossy'/reflective kitchen top also help to brighten a small kitchen and it give a classy finish top to the overall kitchen feel. This is a gd reference (http://www.trendir.com/archives/cat_kitchens.html). And these days, I think many do not place cold drinks on any surface directly. Coasters are use.

Then again, I believe everything wise, it is really a matter of personal preference. :)

Hey milkywhite,

if you're interested and have the time, you can go down to EDL and lamitak factory at sungei kadut, they give u A4 sized sheets of the laminates ure considering... can make more informed choices from there on.. ;) not sure where Formica's factory is though..

btw, who's your contractor that u awarded ur reno to? ur quote looks pretty reasonable!
