Need With With Cement Screed Flooring

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am in the process of renovating my new place, and I really like to have cement screed flooring cos I like the raw feel.

However, My ID kept persuading me not to do it, saying the floor will have cracks, hard to maintain , will have uneven patches etc.

I though cement screed is supposed to be easy to mop and clean?

Anyone has cement screed flooring in your home?? Pls kindly advise on the pros and cons.

I'd also appreciate contacts of anyone who specialised in doing cement screed flooring and can do a good job for me.

Qiuck! before My ID " Forces ' me to use tiles.

One thing to note, my ID is planning to over lay tiles on existing tiles..I asked if it is to cut cost, but he claims that it is actually more expensive to do so. he is doing that cos my current flooring is a bit thin...

So if we are not going to hack exist tiles, can cement screed still be done?

Hi Bluefrog,

I intend to do some cement screeding too (cheaper than hacking and laying tiles) but very minimal places (store and toilet wall) some of the contractors i met also recommended not to, due to maintenance issue and cracks appearing over time etc..

i believe if you do go ahead with it, make sure they apply epoxy resin (if im not wrong)

on the screeded surface as a protective coat...

hi, i am not sure of the side-effects of using cement screed....

but overlaying of tiles is commonly know to be the cheaper alternative to hacking and re-laying the tiles....

there is much less work to be done.... the hacking, the clearing of debris and to "smoothen" the hacked surface....

i believe if you do go ahead with it, make sure they apply epoxy resin (if im not wrong)

on the screeded surface as a protective coat...

epoxy resin will add a layer of gloss to the surface and might not fit the requirement of having a "raw" feel.....

and epoxy is definitely prone to cracks and peeling.... not recommended for heavy usage places such as toilets.... a lot of users have feedbacked about regrets of using epoxy resin....

cheers :)

hi

we took abt 4-5 months to consider the side effect of cement screed flooring. however we decided that nothing suits us more than those cement look

therefore we went ahead with the below

1) cement screed hall flooring

2) cement kitchen table top

3) cement screed toilet walls

ba5cca2e.jpg

the cement screed flooring is prob not done properly, it's overly patchy but our id claimed that aft buffering, things would look much better. if not she would get her workers to re-screed

not done properly, overly patchy. they have to re-screed this

they have to buffer the walls to get rid of the dents marks and water stain markings. workmanship got problem cos now is the peak period and chinese new year is coming where all the workers just want to go back to their country for holidays.

Excellent choice of flooring, lynnzlq.

Cracks has its beauty as well, but the only risk is prolonged seepage, which I believe can be fixed by diy kits.

I'm going to do cement screed as well.

I love the industrial look.

Can I PM you if I need advice when I start working on mine?

Just check

Hi Lynnzlq

is your cement screed overlaid over existing tiles? Is your contractor using exopy resin or buffering over?

Would you can update me when the reno is complete? Would like to see the finish product?

Hi lynnzlq

It look great. i thinking of doing this to my kitchen too. isit cheaper?

hi, very sorry if my reply comes too late.

the whole thing excluding the pull out shelves, sink and cooker stuff. it cost ard 1,800 to 2k.

the reason besides the raw look of it, we like bcos maintenance is pretty low. we heard too many stories abt the those very expensive kitchen worktop that got stained and scratches if you don't take care immediately.

of cos we still have to wipe away after dripping any oil or stains.

wah... very daring.. but too much of cement screed really... *ahem*. actually i kinda understand why your ID doesn't want you to do it.. not because he wants more .. but.. most of the time ppl also wan perfect their creativity mah..

More metals and stronger colour portraits would be good.
