Sun/earth/moon/star Constellation & Fengshui

Recommended Posts

Ancient Chinese has great wisdom in developing the lunar calendar by naked-eye observation via celestial movement of Sun, earth & moon. Not to mention the Chinese constellations developed years Before Christ. FengShui has connection with this. Found not easy to explain the complicated relationship among the "stars" in word, especially in posting, anyway, I'll try, with help of pictures, as I have promised, to make it simple-to-understand. Let's start from Sun & earth, later to, earth & moon….

1. Most has perception that when earth is closest to sun, weather is the hottest. The perception is wrong! Why?

- Earth self-spins, counter-clockwise, look from north pole, cos of spinning, Earth's surface moves at the equator at a speed of over 1675 km/hr. 1spin=1day=24hr. Earth's axis tilted at 23.5 degress.

-Earth takes 365.26 days to make one elliptical orbit round the sun. This elliptical orbit causes the Earth's distance from the Sun to vary over a year. Yet, this phenomenon is not responsible for the Earth's seasons! The variation in distance from the Sun causes amount of solar radiation received by Earth to annually vary by about 6%.

- There are four important dates: June solstice(june 21/22), September equinox(sept 22/23), December solstice(dec 21/22), and March equinox(20/21), in this orbit.

- Angle of Earth's axis in relation to the ecliptic plane/orbit on these four dates remain unchanged. But, the relative position of the Earth's axis to the Sun does change during this cycle. This circumstance is responsible for the annual changes in the height of the Sun above the HORIZON. It also causes the SEASONS by controlling the intensity and duration of sunlight received by locations on the Earth. Seasons are appropriate only for the Northern Hemisphere

- During the two Equinoxes (Mar & Sept), the earth axis, tilted at 23.5 deg pointing parallel with sun. The circle of illumination cuts through the polar axis and all locations on the Earth experience 12 hours of day and night. Singapore situated in 1 deg N, residents can see twice a year during these 2 dates, sun passing overhead, exactly rise from east and set due west.

- During June or summer solstice(Jun), the circle of illumination is tangent to the Arctic Circle (66.5° N) and the region above this latitude receives 24 hours of daylight. The Arctic Circle is in 24 hours of darkness during the December or winner solstice (Dec).

Conclusion: Seasons are caused by the difference in solar radiation amount and duration due to the tilting of earth axis and self revovolution around its axis. Has nothing to do with the distance between sun & earth.

- Earth's distance most away from sun will be on 6 July 2010 at 1100hr. (most less gravity effect from sun)

- Interesting fact, start from spring, due to earth moves along the elliptical orbit, its axit starts from "parallel" with sun, to directly pointing toward sun in june solstice, thus increasing the number of daylight hours and bring warmer weather that cause plants to bring forth new growth.

I'll talk abt lunar-moon, & today is 26/6 (full moon)初十五, and we can observe the lunar eclipse(月食)as well. The understanding to Sun, Earth & Moon relationship will help in understanding to FS, as well as cleaning many myths. I've taken some time to rearrange & summarize these into a easy-to-read format. So it'll take u sometime to read in order to digest. Thank you.

Phases of the Moon - A Popular Misconception

Many people ask: how can the Moon appear at its fullest when the Earth is between it and the Sun, and why is the Moon not visible when it lies between the Earth and Sun? To answer these questions consider first the diagram below of the relative positions of the Earth, Moon and Sun during the eight phases of the Moon.

Pls read the attached 3 files. To be cont..

I've drawn the 24 jieqi(节气) which's the fundamental of chinese calendar, superimpose with the sun & with it respective location & dates, take 365.25 as one year.

http://a.imageshack.us/img265/461/24jieqi.jpg

These 24 jieqi are in fact just the "season indicators" of a year. We're now come to “beginning of autumn", implying that weather will turn cold and more windy, plants start to slow down their metabolism, preparing themselve for the coming "hard fight" against weather (refer to plants in countries with obvious seasonal changes). Lives will go & "hide under the ground", preparing for the next year to come. Farmers/ppl in the northsemiphere, abt to packup, stockup food.....

Here in equatorial zones, still enjoying the "party time". The 23.5 deg tilt of earth has made "not much" seasonal changes to equatorial zones.

Note: This 24jieqi applies only to northsemiphere, more north, more "accurate". If you're migrating to Australia or Newzeland, have to reverse the sequence hor, don't say my drawing not accurate.

I've just added the 24jieqi for this year, 2010.
