Difference In Downlights?

Can anyone help to differentiate on Which type is better for downlights?

1) PLC

2) Direct voltage ( aka PLL???)

Thank you!

i think the comparison as follows:

PLC

- needs magnetic ballast to work

- may flicker when switched on

- cheaper

- consume more power

PLL

- require electronic ballast to work

- instant-on when switched on (flicker-free)

- downlights have electronic ballast built-in so will be more exp when replacing, no external components (eg, magnetic ballast) less propability of failure. so when replacing new PLL lights, everything is new.

- consume less power

Did you see any of those light without bulb and ballast?

I'm into LED, but have an issue buying light casing as most shop sell them with ballast.

The energy saving bulb isit call CFL?

Any ideas? Thanks.
