Hi Autumn,

Regarding the flooring, i'll say it depend on what's your budget for the reno.

The marble floor looks great, and in good condition from the pic. Is definitely worth to keep it as there won't be any ugly and hard to maintain grout lines compare to doing homo flooring. I'll suggest you to focus on doing up other essential items, eg. re-wiring & re-piping (both air-con & water pipe). Spend your $$ wisely.

As for the marble flooring, you can alway do up with laminate flooring later if you still feel that the broken marble is eye-sore.

You can consider Vinyl Flooring By Formica Group (http://www.formica.com.sg/vinyl-flooring)

Vinyl flooring is getting more popular these days, do take a look if interested.

Hey Autumn, congrats on getting thy new home!

Well my parents got the exact same marble design flooring. My dad, during the 70s when he got the flat, thought it was cool & go ahead with this rare But mind u...Expensive marble flooring!

Result: did not fancy my mom cos she feels when cockroaches or ants come by, the flooring did some assist to their escaping due to the camouflaging colour lor.

Myself? I thought other than my mom's concern, which I'm fine with it anyway, it was Uniquely Artistic!

Another good thing - at age of 12, I tried 'defy' my mom by ironing my sch uniform on the board using the traditional but Heavy iron. The iron fell off the shaky board n dented a 50 cents' size hole on the flooring! ...even if I tell ya the zone, I bet no one would ever be able to spot this Dent!

So it can be good too in the sense! But comes to furnishing, thinketh blacks/ whites/ brown is to my personal liking with this kinda flooring design.

U may like to hack em off but do it only if u already catered for 'hidden costs' of not just renovation but those furnishings + decors lor :)

Say if ya still constrained by budget but the flooring doesn't appeal to ya or cast doubts... My humble suggestion is: Hack It away first, then sacrifices some luxury items to come at a much later date lor!

Cheers!

i personally heart marble flooring, but not on broken marble, to me it seems complicated. Since i prefer simpler design and less details. If you are not into simple things, you can keep the marble flooring. As marble flooring really shines when you on your lights at night. And given the photos you have uploaded, it is really well maintained. If you like, you can ask specialist to apply water membrance and repolish it.

My reason to heart marble flooring is that it gives cooling effect, especially there is no obvious grout lines. Which i can't tolerate, as those grout line which you see from complete flooring of homo tiles, will trap dust, and those grout lines will turn grey. And i am very sensitive to dust, so its a big no no to me. Marble has grout as well, but they can be polished, and the grout line will be even with the marble flooring surface.

Then again, if you are really disturbed, change it now, in case you might regret in future. Or given advised by other users, keep it for now, in future, if you really can't stand it, ask people to do a laminate for you. This way you can retain your marble flooring still.

Mind you, to redo marble flooring just on labour to tile it up and the marble tiles (average marble tiles price), it can cost 20K and above, which is 3 to 4 times of homo tiles. And marble tiles, need people who is expertise in it to tile it, unlike homo tiles. And marble grout line is really thin, about 1 to 2 mm only. That explains why need people expertise in laying marble tiles to do it.

Consider wisely, since hacking will cost you some bucks as well. :)

I liked the shiny marble flooring, but then, the colours abit out... Still acceptable though, just don't know whether will it blend. But thanks alot!! :yamseng:

Hi there! I did get quote for marble flooring as well. And yes, got quotes like 20k+, looks really good but bad on my pockets.. :dribble:

I know what you mean by those grouting lines coz I've my fair share of it back in my previous place. I had to get my helper to use toothbrush to scrub just the grouting lines and it will look perfect white before it turns grey Again.

But thanks alot for your valuable reply! :)

My parents' previous house is of this kind of flooring, if you would go for brown, black, cream, white, grey, those neutral color, it should fit in pretty well.. If you would want to put in lime green etc.. It will be a little hard. So, plan your colors before hand. :)

Hope im not too late in welcoming u!

For me, i will keep the marble, cos it looks really really gd in condition.

The only thing i will change is the window grilles, to a lighter colour.

I do not think its difficult to mix n match the furniture if u r daring enough! Hehe...

But the main thing is still whether u can accept the look for years to come :)

I saw a white sofa, a white brick wall & a white marble dinning table that I fancy... :dribble: Does that count? :D:D

And yes, we are gonna change the windows for the whole house as well! Coz it looks really.... now.

Hopefully the IDs I'm gonna meet can give me some brilliant ideas how to go about looking modern with this flooring... :yamseng::yamseng:

:D Why not! White matches anything well.. And it brightens the house, but i think you need another color for other items. Can't be white for everything, like dinning chair in brown, or coffee table in brown or black etc.. Its fun to play with colors... :)

Yea, I like the park view as well. Hopefully it wouldn't look that bare when it's completed. :P

I'm near CHS there, the start.. :D
