  1. True. Daily charter rates for bulk carriers now (handymax size) is around 70K per day. last Nov it went up to 90K per day. You work in finance, how erm, safe is taking a job there now? Been getting a few calls from search firms asking if I would mind if they send my profile over to some investment banks. I've told them that the timing is not right and the opp cost of leaving now and losing a similar bonus is not worth it .... unless they provide a sign on bonus which comes close

    Training Bonds

Quite standard to pay back if you fail. Don't even think of failing, you shld be alright. The bond is generally pro-rated. Cannot be flat fee ... so if you resign after 23 mths, then still may 10K? Looks like an unfair contract to me. Think before signing / committing.
  3. I work in shipping and the last 2 yrs have been record years in terms of freight and charter rates. Wld expect a similar bonus this year. Over capacity in 2010 so bonus is likely to be drastically reduced

    Training Bonds

This is ridiculous. The payment if there is liquidated damages should be pro-rated. Bond should only be effective after or on the last day of exam completion. Eg, if you resign 1 yr into a 2 yr bond, you liability should be for 1 year + any compunded interest (if applicable).
  5. ID from U Home come by and met with us. Very much on time and spent a little more than an hour to understand our needs. Quite a contrast from another ID who came by only for abt 7 minutes, did a cursory look around and then went off. Let you know how it goes when I meet with them to discuss proposal. Gave them 2-weeks to come up with quotation.
  6. I will have you know right now my fingers are not tubby. A little knobbly here and there but defo not tubby I read Snoopy's post a few times and didn't find anything wrong or controversial either. He has an opinion and I think its valid.
  7. I would like to think that HDB has awarded the reno of the flats to multiple vendors. I doubt it would be the lowest quote, prob mid-range. If there isn't a huge take up for the development, I am guessing that developers will have to lower the prices to make a sale. Afterall there will be an over supply of projects from 2010 onwards. If possible, maybe play a wait and see game.
  8. [quote La Casa huh? Too right. Apparently bathroom fixtures has some rust on it.
  9. Ha ha. Barry signing has gone pear shaped by the looks of iy BTW any idea what % of this new development has been sold Keeping to topic here The entry point is still on the extreme high side. Developers are cashing in on the crest of the market. The question is, how much will this development be worth in the low cycle? On the other polel how much further upside is there? 3-5%? Anyone's guess. First timers can also get grant for resle flat My friend bought an EC in Woodlands and said that the quality of tiles, etc is not fantastice. Mass market stuff.
  10. Too right you are. Love the avatar. Digress from thread a second.... we on the verge of signing Robbie Keane
  11. A flat is worth what a buyer is willing to pay. There are only 4 blocks in that development, so in a sense it's pretty private. 3 lifts servicing each level. Outdoor rubbish chute. If you buy a 5 room (only 2 units on each level and from level 7 upwards), you would have a huge landing area outside your flat. I am looking out of my window now, can't see anyone's living room. All or most of the new 5room flats are now 110sqm. It's small but the layout is fantastic. Size of master bedroom cannot be beat. My goodness, far from the MRT and need a feeder bus and transfer as well???? Wow, last I checked it was abt 700 meters and a 5 minute walk. The upgraded 4rm HDB flats are about 20 - 30+ yrs old, go for it if you want something with 60+ yrs of lease remaining. But hey, its cheaper.
  12. I will sms tomrw to see if he has received my email. Now I need to go on an on-line q to book a golf flight at Safra next Sat. Sometimes I think there is more chance of striking 4D than getting a flight
  13. I spoke with Roy earlier today. He's swamped. I said I can wait so he asked to email floor plan. Let's see if he responds.
  14. Cyn, 70 pairs HDB right now re-decorating our blks. I left an old pair of New Balance trunning shoes outside like I normally do. Next day gone. Suspect worker but have no proof. Good thing he/she pilfered an old pair and didn't touch my relatively ex FootJoy golf shoes. Now all shoes inside. To be fair my wife doesn't have 70 pairs ..... yet. Aves, ok I go check your blog.
  15. Cool, looks good. Am kaypoh to see your kitchen + rest of place leh Quite often wifey reminds me of the horrible mistake I made with the kitchen in terms of space planning , so now need to redo swee swee. Sent you an email. Cheers.
  16. Yep, all super busy. Thankfully I'm not in a major hurry to get things done. Primarily to redo toilets & kitchen, shoe cabinet at foyer for my wife who is trying to rival Marcos in that dept. Feature wall in hall + console and some custom made bookshelves & desk for the kids. Cld you PM me the ID's you've spoken with + quotations Mucho gracias.
  17. Aves, found ID yet? So far 2 firms have come by. Still waiting for quotation. Others ask me to email floor plan and needs. Done so but no one has responded yet. Business must be super good.
  18. Agree with you. Pictures cannot accurately depict the quality of workmanship but it at least provides an indication of how the final product looks like. I've met Kelvin and he seems decent enough, waiting for my quotation. Before I engage his services I'm sure he'll agree to let me view a project or two and speak with the owners. After all renovation is expensive and everyone would like to do a reference check.
  19. Their WIW and kitchen very nice but a little ex. Was keen on the kitchen but 15ft + solid surface + the Hettich? system was quoted at 5.1K
  20. Name familair. Are also on the SSOG / RSeries forum? Anyways, mine 10-mths. Will probably never see anything like this again.
  21. Secondary? When? My mom was English head there many years ago.

    Training Bonds

From an organizational development perspective, bonds are outdated and not necessarily the best way to retain employees, particularly the talented ones. If the company chooses to send an employee for a course, seminar etc then the company should foot the bill without any strings attached. At the end of the day in a tight labour market, many competitors will be willing to buy out the bond of someone they wish to hire or poach. What is 5K to a corporation? You could put in a caveat as what Phantom suggests but at the end of the day, talented employees have many choices available.
  23. Yah, furniture there cheap and decent quality. Melvin most helpful but always get scolding from me because he say deliver at 3pm, goods only arrive at 6pm. Ha ha, other than that he and his wife are nice and willing to give a decent discount.
