  1. Felt a bit angry with the 7 days rule. Because nobody told us in 1st appointment. If people didn't have time and collect keys on 2nd appointment how? Plus lucky I do the open door ceremony on keys collection day, if other people got to wait for FS, delay here, delay there. Not enough time.... My problem now is that the defects I reported not completed yet (the bomb shelter door especially), and my dong tou ceremony coming as I wanted ID to start work fast (4 to 6 weeks completion, plus 1-2 week for defects rectification....just pass ghost month)...then how? Start my reno and if missed some defects also bad.... Okie back to the positive ---------------------------- 1) Find a door installation company, sell him x numbers of door for $y dollar. How much are we willing to selll? That will solve all the problem, one time collect all doors and they collect it. I got a mind to sell it back to the HDB contractor, because they then don't need to buy more, or can repair other units with defective doors, or use for next project. 2) Hold garade sale, but must arrange door transporter, installers etc. This method whose door get sold first? so my idea is, those whoever are changing door(s), just ask your new door contractor/ID if they want x number of doors cheap. lol, like the show apprentice....clinch group deal easier. The rest, if you 'thinking' of changing door, keep at back of mind how many doors to contribute. If we find a lobang, we open a thread to consolidate 'who want to sell door' project. PS: Who is our HDB door contrator?
  2. Guess the water must successfully flush your things away. I didn't paid attention till i was looking for a replacement too. seem like our HDB one is water first and tries to drag the 'thing' along. So if the thing is very stuffy, it gets stuck in the middle of the pipe. If dries up then pipe burst (lol). Or use too much toilet paper, also choke. So another design is the water when flush creates a super whirlpool jet thunder clap don't know whatever and push the thing. ie thing first water behind. see this conoma system....$500 plus in sg. So in theory, if you misplace the hole, you better hope your flush system push the thing through, if not, you have to create geometry, for example, create a step up, then the pipe is slanted towards the hole to assist in the flushing. Cost? I think expensive. Solution, do 'thing' less
  3. Good for DSA to spot and highlight this.... You see, the window when you open out, you can see 3 pieces of black rubber seal, on the top and the two sides. These are there so that when you shut the window during rain, it will seal up the sides and water can't get in. What DSA pointing out is that ALL the windows don't have bottom seal. I did noticed this too during my check but I ignored it. I figured that the designer thinks gravity would do the job so the bottom don't need seal. (Kind of hard for water to drip along the panel and curl back up) However, this is just my thoughts, we can wait for DSA reply from the HDB people
  4. Fencing...groom vs bride or Father vs Father in law. Other lora croft / Indianna Jones stunts. Wrap groom as a mummy, spin and unwarp him on the way in.....
  5. How many ticks is your Daikin? More upfront cost will translate to longer savings if the ticks are there (I think) I went to the expo with the same intention, and seem like Jack Neo's recommendation looks okay. the boss was very knowledgeable and looked like ah seng (ie competent hands on guy). The Mit brand system 3 in one inverter, he quote $2680 I think, with larger gauge copper pipes and 18+9+9. Logic wise, the 'power' comes from the compressor as the rest are pipings and distributor, so if the cooling power not there (yours is 6K, while your room needs 8K) so my thinking is that your compressor will run more on/off. Probably will cost more $ (I'm an aircon newbie too - so more experience guy pls comment) - I got 2 to 3 more weeks before I need to committ to get one liao
  6. Oh my goodness, I saw one of the new block got this new life features What to do? My son too young to attach an IA on his forehead, where to put his cashcard? Regarding Doors, I was thinking of changing my bathroom door too. Saw a brochure selling our type of doors for around $100+???? Anyone thought of gathering all the doors together, then we hold a one weekend sale at the void deck? lol. I am sure some people's door need to be changed and they will come from other towns
  7. you got which brand? Was looking for one at the expo
  8. Er, Not to rain on your parade..... Or to get cold feet from watery eyes..... Dampen your spirts or anything...... You get the idea. Wood at balcony? Rain how? I saw some special waterresistance wood, but they will cost $
  9. What the heck! 2 pieces of bread using the toaster cost $1.43 per day (left page, I think error)? Same as 8 hours of air-con ususage? Man, I better go eat $2 breakfast set at local kopitiam...hey! Come to think of it, I don't have a toaster? hee hee. I also saved $0.24 per day from the 24 hours on Heater kettle. I bought one of those nice 2 minutes quick boil water kettle, then pour the water into the vacuum flash. So $0.24x 30 days = $7.20 per month? Good avings.
  10. Confirm one, it's in the HDB black and white as shown. Note: This is in the package given to you during key collection, together with 2 A4 paper stating no hacking of tiles at kitchen, bathroom, etc. You and your spouse signatures are on these documents! Otherwise why you think I took days off last week to quickly do my defects checK? I mentioned to the Lady (jovi cheng of service center) that nobody informed myself and wife during the 1st appointment, and during the 2nd appointment upon collection of key, the HDB officer just briefly circle it. Luckily I came to renotalk, looked around then saw some threads that mentioned this clause. However, there is of course give and take by the Office at the Service center (as discovered and mentioned by some earlier posts). I checked with her too and she says its 'depend'. But if you start renovation, then it will be more 'difficult'. If some defects are inherent, example seal at windows breask during use, you got 1 year to report and they will repair these material defects. But if you look at my blog, for example the small crack at the bathroom door, if you didn't notice it then one day it may just crack off and HDB can say its caused by the contractors. Now my worry is how to protect the door frames, door knobs during the renovation when people carry things and bang bang here, bang bang there...
  11. They goes by the length, type of support, type of curtains, number of curtains and whether you looked like you can be chopped (I guess). Just came back from the Expo and got the same $1500+ quote for 4 room 92 sqm (all 4 rooms use day/nite curtain). Walked over to the other side and 4 Room package for $1288. Well, could be that the material is different... I'll try the neighbourhood shop near Shop N save near our new place, lets see what are their quots Must be more specific....7 days or before renovation whichever is EARLIER.... so end up most people is 7 days unless day 1 you start reno work liao..
  12. wonderful, welcome to my block too. I'm on the 5th floor, how about you? Done any Fengshui, ID , defects inspecton and all that stuff? Or just collected keys only like I did last week? (your this week?)
  13. $1000 according to my ID quote...seem like standard amount
  14. Er, this is not your dog right? Just kidding....
  15. Hmmm? Your place got rob already? No sink and basin? want to buy over my HDB issued ones? 2 sets at half price....100% brand new Just kidding. Actually if you are getting basin and WC for the toilets, does it means that your renovation also has a vanity top for the toilets? I was also thinking of making a top over the existing basin/wc so can place some stuff there. Now that place is just empty.
  16. Not about drilling (secondary problem)....I mean installation (primary problem). Lets say the guys who installed the hidden pipes left some debris inside, which may clog the pipe when in actual used. Or worst still, left some grease based substance inside (heat builtup). Kaboom when we use it in the future or block, pressure build up, one day some weak spot piss and kill all of us in the night... horror story
  17. Edited as safety informaion updated
  18. Well, I am sure you heard of reports of robbers stealing clamps at those fireman outlets? these are due to the rising metal cost. How much is the metal gates worth? For security purposes, every barrier is an obstacle. If a gang of robber come prepared, a wooden door is the least of the worry. Take a power drill, drill through the small side door (you did see it right?) reach in and unlock the big main door. That's the wooden part as it is easy to drill. Now, if metal gate is there then it will be more difficult to saw through. The other way is to cut your padlock (so game over too if you didn't turn the gate lock in and just depends on padlock at the top). So make it more obstacles and delay them so that someone may spot the noise/damages. a) If it is a bunch of average robbers and my barriers are more than my neighbour, they will go the easier route b) If it is a bunch of prepared robbers, they will bring all the necessary tools and it doesn't make a difference c) If it is ocean 12 gang and they see my barriers are more than my neightbours...hmm, am I more loaded to spend the extra $$$ so they will rob me first?
  19. I removed the email send to ORC, HDB has feedback to me the design is 'safe'.
  20. Wah good information. so where is your neighbour unit? I am at 220B doing my defects check, can take a look at the welding job of your neighbour? Then I'll go back and try to take out my gate lol.... Was at the service center and Jovi told me some story too...
  21. Man this is dumb right? Did subana did any squat and put put test? lol Making the water level so low you can't clear the stuff in one flush, end up you need 2nd or maybe 3rd. End up waste more money. At first I was not thinking of modifying the cover, just thought buy a replacement cover with those small/big flush thing and see if it works. But today I went to see and find that the 'plunger' is one piece like a T, so it makes no difference with cover change. To get the dual flush function, gues shave ot change the organs too...illegal organs transplant lol....
  22. Anyone adjusted their bathroom flushing level? During my defects check, found that the 2 bathroom were set to quite 'low' level and the tanks filled up to around 50% of the capacity of the tank. So anyone think or has adjusted the levels to allow more water to be filled so that the flushing become more 'powerful? Also, does anyone knows if just change the top cover possible? Like just buy those with 2 buttons (half flush/full flush) and replace the current full flush. Thank you
  23. First day of my inspection and here are my defects findings and some insights. Anybody want to come help me find defects or want me to help them find defects can contact me. I should be pretty free this week. I am the ultimate complain king as I was trained by the Air Foce for 9 years to spot small little problems that might cause my superpuma (3000+ tiny parts in my area of responsibility) to crash. Plus I used to be a mechancial engineer doing products design, so I spot tiny little 'problems', however abstract. So if you look at my house and I look at yours, we can spot more defects which might give you ideas of what you might have missed out when you were inspecting your flat. If your house is renovated, laggi best, as I need some ideas too Okie, my defects checking is in my blog as I think it will be kind of hard to track in this thread as I update them blog updated 8 July 2008. 11 defects found, 3 major ones! (With pictures)
  24. Greetings All! We are the Lim family, just collected our keys on 4th July 2008. Our home will be 5th floor of 220B. Will be doing defects inspection soon, and have learnt a lot from all the postings here, berry berry good work B-) Will contribute my sightings and ideas as I find any B-) To all the people who have facebook, have tried to add you all as friends. I feel that facebook has the group function which is excellent to communicate to everyone if there is any issues that affect all of us. Like a group barbeque or something. Those with doggies watch out for my little boy. He like to chase and pat little woof woof and meow meow B-P
