  1. If you are doing a glass door of any kind besides wardrobe/cabinet doors it will have to be tempered by law. doing a full height door recommended thickness would be 12mm.
  2. preferbly 12mm or more. You can do what ever thickness you want, it's at your own risk. Doing a partition on top of it, i do not know if the price will make a big diff. but if you are doing the partition and 10mm on top of it and i assume the glass's max height is 1 meter in length, it would be fairly safe enough.
  3. All this can be arranged too. Of course self collect would be cheaper. Transporting it will have transportation cost unless u're ordering in large quantity. =) Ya. u could try ikea too. If dont have the one you like, then go and custom make your unique mirror.
  4. it will be flimsy or wobble u may call it. 2.57m is too long for 10mm glass just as what the above mentioned, all is true.
  5. Seng Huat Glass at Yishun call 64823708 for quote. Best is if u go dwn personally and show them the exact size and shape with drawings or an exact cut-out cardboard model.
  6. Plus -looks nice -easy to clean Minus -glass breaking issues (heat or impact) I think if you can get laminated glass (2 pieces of glass, 1 float 1 tempered stick together by a PVC inbetween) for the hob, it would be a lot safer to use. At least you will not find pieces of glass anywhere around the area if it breaks. You can have designs on the laminated glass itself too.
  7. er.... sorry to say but i think ur ID is like all the way out to chop u on the floor spring thing. 300 more on the floor spring itself ?? Gold plated ? I think he quoted you that price to discourage you to do 12mm. If you go on 10mm, make sure nobody tries to lean on the glass or have any kids at home after installing. Definately will break easily if the panel and door height is more than 1.5meters. Tempered glass makes the glass hard and thus brittle, so if you lean on the glass and it bends just a tiny little bit it will shatter into pieces and soon enough you will spend another lump sum on the ID again. Best is, do laminated glass for all reasons. haha but it definately cost more. So becareful on what you choose for. =)
  8. It depends on the specification of the glass you are comparing. Stainless steel price went sky high before the olympics started. Now, i'm not sure of it.
  9. correct. materials are dead, humans are alive. Things can be worked out easily.
  10. It depends on you. If the glass that you wanted is too thick, it will protrude out at the edges and may not look nice and natural. 5mm would be ok. If you dont mind thick glass and price tags, for safety reasons, get laminated glass. At least when the laminated glass breaks, it wont shatter everywhere in your kitchen and giving you a hard time cleaning and trying to make the kitchen safe to work in.
  11. Just follow whats on the quotation black and white, if he does extra things for you and nv ask you to pay it's his loss. If he ask you to pay, show him black and white say it's not the things that you wanted and it's their mistake for making it like that and they will have to remove. If they insist you to pay, they are hard on money and trying to chop you =) so avoid and advise others on contractors like these.
  12. It depends on the size of your door too. Generally, the thicker the better but the cons is it will be heavier thus ur floor spring specs will change too. If the floor spring he has cannot support the weight of the door, it will spoil it i guess thats what it means. It might be also the problem of the contractor already made the 10mm U-channel space on the ground already and not wanting to redo it again. Listen to his reason and advise 1st and then decide if it is viable.
  13. Glass is something nobody can assure you if it will break today or tmr by itself. I know it's weird but thats the way the material is. For better saftety reasons, i would recommend you to do a laminated glass(tempered + normal float glass) door to prevent serious accidents when the door breaks by any means as laminated door will not shatter to pieces on the ground, but stays intact as a whole piece even if it breaks (You will see the glass like as if it is filled with spider webs design). It would be more expensive though and i'm not very sure if it's available for doors. Just my 2 cents =)
  14. How would you know if A is really honest ? He could be smiling at you and at the same time chopping you haha no offence just telling you what i feel. If the price is the same, you dont need a rocket scientist to tell you which to choose.
  15. Definately it is not reasonable to ask you to pay another 100 to remove them. When u hired the next contractor you could explain the situation to them and they could possibily help you to remove them for free and do the installation after that. If you are really concerned about the renovation, always consult what services they provide before engaging them.
