  1. MIJ fridges cost significantly more compared to non-MIJ considering the functions and capacity. I have used a LG (not sure made in which country) fridge and it's still running problem-free for 4 years. The terminology of made in which country is ambiguous to simple consumers like us so we will never know the truth behind where the parts were actually made in. And that is a big unknown. Therefore, I wouldn't pay for MIJ fridges at that price point. I would just buy a non-MIJ Mitsubishi which can be had for about $1000 (450L net capacity) or less depending on capacity and functions.
  2. Ideal Bathroom at Balestier Road carries American and Ideal Standard products.
  3. Thanks E, that's very informative on the plumbing aspect! I will definitely check all the joints for the correct threading connections after they are done.
  4. If you talk about functionality, 18VA is good enough for typical usage. If you like it extra cool, go for 24VA. If you want to use your room FCU simultaneously with 24VA, your outdoor unit might be pushed hard. Of course that's dependent on your usage pattern. Go through these practical comparisons and I'm sure you will come to a conclusion on which suits you best. Have fun!
  5. Yes definitely agree that 24VA is the way for 5rm living room. A 5rm living almost 1 room larger than a 4rm living. It wouldn't look out of place too. Also have to consider whether other FCUs are being used simultaneously as the outdoor unit is only about 30k Btu max. Eventually, this is purely personal preference.
  6. I think you may want to reconsider using MSY-GE24VA for living room. 3 reasons: 1) GE18VA would be sufficient given the size of 4rm living room. 2) outdoor unit is MXY4A28VA. If 24VA is in use, only 1 more 10VA can be simultaneously in use. 3) 28VA is huge in relation to the size of a standard 4rm living room. Doesn't look good aesthetically. Have a look at the dimensions and physical unit if possible. I was so close to installing the 24VA too but eventually switched to 18VA. Sharing my line of thought.
  7. I'm curious as to why the t-piece was held by tape and not screwed directly to the other piece? Different sizing or just laziness? I'm assuming the plumber is Alan's subcon?

  11. For top hung doors, there are brackets situated at floor level to ensure the door desn't deviate too far off its plane. For motorized doors, the movement frequency is high. If the top bracket is not durable, the impact on the top bracket would be as high or worse compared to a manual sliding door being pulled along different planar angles. Just my deductions as a user. Not a door merchant!
  12. From what I have seen so far, 10mm is a compromise between aesthetics and strength. If you want top hung without bottom tracks, 10mm is sufficient for general use. Anything above 10mm, the glass gets too heavy and I doubt the top hung mechanism can last long without support of bottom tracks. On another note, the sliding glass doors at shops and malls are typically top hung and used with high frequency too. From memory, some of the glass seems to be 10mm too.
  13. Acrylic panels are easily scratched. If you can tolerate the scratch marks, it is a good replacement for glass.
  14. As Asking4Help pointed out, they have various thickness. When I was last there few months ago, I saw 2 tops displayed - white (didn't note the model) and dark (Piatra Grey). They have nice looking samples of some other models at a small rack with a handy Caesarstone brochure which isn't easy to come across at local shops.
  15. For Caesarstone, you can pay a visit to Blum at Ubi. It's not meant to be a Caesarstone showroom but they do have 1 or 2 quartz tops on display with other samples at one corner.

  17. HDB provides a set of electrical and plumbing schematics for new units so you will know where the pipes/wires are. At least for units with that service yard wall, water&gas pipes/electrical wires are unlikely to run across that wall.
  18. To hack the upper part of that wall, you will need PE certification. HDB responded positively within days so my service yard wall was hacked. Btw, the upper portion of my wall is not a structural beam. It should be similar for most HDB units built in the past decade or so. Whether it's worth spending the few hundreds for PE endorsement is down to each individual's budget and objective. For me, it's not an insignificant sum but I still went ahead as I wanted a spacious look and I only have top hung cabinets on 1 side.
  19. Since most of the service yard wall has been hacked, why not hack the upper portion too? That upper portion is unlikely to be a structural beam. With the entire wall removed, the kitchen will look more airy and spacious.
  20. Selling pedestal sink and mixer tap with drain at $50 each set. Open to negotiation. Just want to clear fast.
  21. The reno done was extensive, lots of hacking and carpentry. A reasonable contractor quote should be about 50k with 5k tolerance either side. If you get the subcons and do your own supervision, 40k certainly possible. A quick glance at your contractor's bill shows individual items are at least 40% higher based on contractor pricing eg tempered glass door. You need to do some hard uncompromising bargaining.
  22. From my understanding, the composition of caesarstone is majority quartz which is a natural mineral. The remaining material is made up of polyester resins and that forms less than 10%. As for solid surface, the major component is polymers eg acrylic/polyester with minimal natural minerals thrown in. Based on the composition comparisons, to classify caesarstone or any other quartz tops as high end solid surfaces doesn't sound representative. I stand corrected. Only here to learn more.
  23. Still looking to sell. Quote what you think is reasonable and we can discuss.
  24. The following were provided by HDB and never used. 2 sets to sell. Pricing for these can be discussed accordingly. Self collect at Commonwealth Drive. Email freakix@yahoo.com.
