  1. i could find are the two below, with the door open... i guess a good start to thinking where the storeroom can go would be to examine ur floor plan, then discuss with ur ID or contractor - have to take care of the space planning aspect too. a 5-rm flat def has space for a storeroom, which i think is pretty impt - throw all ur rubbish into it u could upload ur floor plan on renotalk - lots of pp will give u suggestions!
  2. hello, we did build the storeroom up again - previous owner had gotten rid of it; so we built it up again, but in a different position, and made it flush with the feature wall in our unit. below is the pic of our new storeroom - its door is flushed with the feature panelling
  3. hi jaskel, how do you tell? which is the blockwood portion, and which is the plywood portion? we were also scratching our heads over it when the carpentry was delivered; cos some looked abit funny. our carpentry is already up, but still interested to know. elan1311, sorry to hijack ur thread, but this topic is of interest to us too! don't wanna to kenna chopped by our ID/contractors.
  4. hey AJ, if i'm not wrong, outdoor bamboo blinds all have a piece of plastic or waterproof material on the outer layer - @ least tt was what the guy @ the curtain shop told us; so outdoor bamboo blinds would be good for keeping the rain out, provided its full length. personally, we like the bamboo blinds look too as for those with can repel the wind... hmm, tt will be a challenge. not sure whether the outdoor blinds are heavy enuff to stay down even with strong wind. indoor bamboo definitely flies... maybe if is a catch which can keep them down, it would help
  5. rasp, you and ur hubby are really detailed when it comes to reno, i realise. we are so... shoddy compared to you, haha. as usual, we have never gone to look @ the door frames and the locks on it. picked up some tips from you... its time to open our eyes wider!
  6. the mental image of you wearing shades in the house is abit funny if its too starkingly white, perhaps u could paint a coat of paint which is white based, but still has a tinge of colour? maybe morning dew kind of colour? gives the place a warmer colour... not sure if its feasible with your theme tho...
  7. thanks for your compliment. with a small family, we decided that we didn't need a HUGE frige, like those used by zi char stalls in kopitiams or walk in freezer units butchery. saves our Earth too by conserving energy. so what kind of fridge do you actually use? happy chilling, everybody
  8. we also requested for diff colour instead of the normal white PVC finishing for the wardrobe - my ID called it "polykem" finishing... not sure if i got the spelling rite
  9. rasp, saw ur post on our blog - lemme check tonight... this issue has never come across my mind. the hubby said he checked, it feels raw; but dun think any of us ever climbed up and took a look. will do tonight & let u know. thanks for highlighting this
  10. hi rasp, your reno seems to be coming along very well... good for you. so when is ur scheduled HO? carpentry should be very fast too. what is the end design you're visualising for your place?
  11. that is one of the more exciting aspects... choosing the stuff around the house, tho' pocket will hurt after that. do enjoy the shopping next week man
  12. just realised we have the same gate design ours is in a different colour tho. we also have the same washer! has yours been delivered?
  13. some of the items which arrived on friday too... brandt washer - WFK1248A f&p fridge
  14. ur reno is definitely not ugly, haha. there r more pp reading ur blog than you think, just that we're not posting. has your ID come up with alternative designs for the living room, now that the storeroom cannot be removed?
  15. hi all, thanks for the advice and suggestion about the marble problem. unfortunately, it's hard to find replacement White Carrera marble of 600x300 size of good condition and color. for all the areas that needed replacement previously due to hacking and leveling of the balcony area, we had no choice but to use the 300x300 ones from Mondi. the 300x300 tiles were of better color and condition. the 600x300 ones were in low quantity and had chips and dull color. ID told us that if Mondi doesn't have the stock, the rest of Singapore would unlikely to have either. making the ID replace those badly harmed and scratched areas would mean that that we will see a lot of 300x300 patches among the exisiting 600x300 areas. be super duper ugly :S
  16. i think we got the same fridge, but in the stainless steel finish - seems we have plenty of similar taste! how's the feedback on it so far?
  17. we've posted our upsetting story previously in another thread but thought that we should post it here for those who are interested in solid wooden furniture. [start of post] our mirror fm unikhome was delivered today, after about 2 months; was looking forward to having the full length mirror, but was sorely disappointed. # sales lady promised us there would be no distortion in the images on the mirror, as it would be fabricated in singapore - quality guaranteed. it was written in black n white on our invoice tt mirror image would not be distorted BUT the actual product which was delivered was sub-standard. the reflection of images in background were not straight - they were slanting to one side - even the delivery guys could see that the images presented on the mirror were distorted. the width of the frame at the top of the mirror n bottom of the mirror was also different - but we could have let that go if the mirror image was fine. the delivery guys took the mirror back; called unikhome up, and the people kept insisting that was natural image presented by any large piece of mirror; but we told them, we have bigger pcs of mirrors in the house installed by ID, and they are perfectly fine - sales girl had nothing to day. asked them why they didn't check on the mirror image before delivery, sales girl had nothing to say. then they offered us full refund for the mirror BUT their guys had already drilled two gaping holes in our wall for the mirror, the paint around that spot was already peeling, and wall dirtied in many spots. asked what they would do about the spoilt wall in the end, they said they would check with their carpenter n get back to us by mid next week to let us check on the image. it would have been fair and good if they had graciously agreed to do a round of check on the mirror, and have it replaced. but all the sales reps whom we spoke to kept insisting that all large mirrors were such, and that there was nothing wrong with it. that part was the one which made us really pissed. just to add: hubby was fuming mad with how the people from the company handled the matter - first, the company didn't even call within an hr after the delivery guy reported to them about the problem. No assurance given to customer for the defective goods (chinese saying: no sound, no music) - when hubby decided to call the company to check what the company would do and the status, the guy who answered phone gave lame excuse that the distortion is natural for huge pieces of mirror. hubby immediately shot him back that our display cabinet's mirror was bigger and longer than theirs. The guy changed his statement and asked what's the distance he was standing from when he saw the distorted image in the background. hubby told him that he could see the distortion very clearly even at a distance of less than 1 metre! only then did the guy said he would go check it out. - probably an hr later, the lady who attended to us when we placed our order called. she said that the mounting of the mirror could have been one of the reasons for distortion, citing the angle of mounting could cause distortion. hubby asked her if she had looked herself into a round mirror. she replied no. hubby 'educated' her that no matter how a round mirror is rotated or tilted, a mirror should only show reflections, not distortions. - hubby brought up again to her that the display cabinet's mirror backing is better than what unikhome provided. she asked if the mirror was mounted onto the cabinet. hubby replied yes. she explained that the backing of the display cabinet was flatter (in a way better) for mirror mounting. hubby told her off that her reply indicated that unikhome's mirror was not well made. she went 'yah'. - hubby questioned her about her assurance that the mirror delivered would have no distortion. she replied that the mirror was gotten from the usual supplier, so with the confidence that they had with them, she didn't check and that the delivery people should've checked. hubby told her off that it's negligence on her part, not delivery people because the stuff is sold under the company's name and her promise as indicated in the invoice. - the lady told hubby in the worst scenario, they would offer a full refund. hubby was even more upset by that because it sounded like it's too easy to make a refund. hubby asked her to come down to our house and stare at the the ugly holes drilled with him. - so patience ran out. the lady asked hubby whether he would want them to refund or rectify the problem, in a non-remorseful tone. that made hubby fume even more, telling her off that all these could've been avoided if they've done their due diligence in QC-ing the deliverables. only then did she say that she would check with the carpenter and mirror supplier and come back to us. [end of post]
  18. thanks christy the couple who sold us the furniture left a container of the wood stain they used, as well as a container of wax which we can use to polish the wood. the furniture also comes with 6-months warranty, cos wood being a natural element, prone to "moving" - so any defects they will rectify - told us to list down the items we need them to work on, so when they come back, can do all @ once, hehe.
  19. thanks! will be working on the finishing touches; then can post pics of the completed house!
  20. haiz, i think it's a little too late for that already... that part is already over... the hubby did call the ID right after he saw the exposed flooring to put the cardboard. anyway we're now pending for the last bit of rectifications and settlement, then can look forward to moving in now sourcing for cushions for our furniture and glass top for the dining table. apart from the marble prob and the minor defects and touch-ups here and there, the reno experience is overall still not too bad.
  21. hi momo, we can't rem the exact cost, n the invoice doesn't state the exact breakdown too. but if i dun remember wrongly, its about 300 plus?
  22. hi moomoo, yeah, some, or rather two-thirds of the scratches, we should be able to cover them up with the furniture and stuff, except those in the mbr, haha. such an irony rite? granted, the quality of the marble might not have been the best to begin with, previous owners would have caused a reasonable amt of chinks to it too; but our gripe is tt proper care wasn't due the marble during reno. the pic below r fm the 1st day... the hacked stuff were strewn all over the marble flooring... *faint* we have already brought this point up to our ID; let's see what he will suggest... maybe taking out the cost of the marble polishing fm the quote? mbr hacking... the WC on the naked marble flooring... where's my floor protection??
  23. hey rasp, scratches below... these r just a few of the many around, haiz. those in the mbr and spare room are really... 心痛。we'll take pics of them later when we go n continue our cleaning project. scratches which can be removed by polishing r only hairline ones... anything deeper than that... they're here to stay. the marble guys who were up did try to remove some, painstakingly used sandpaper to grind, then the machine to buff the floor, but it didn't work. so these white glaring streaks across our tiles... they're going to share our space permanently. welcome to bishan
  24. thanks forkie we like the furniture very much too. teak is costlier than some materials used in furniture, but got it cos we like the feel of it, and it matches the theme both of us like, and r trying to create. customization of such teakwood furniture in singapore with the dimensions we want would have been must costlier, esp with the hubby's request to have strong, sturdy and tough looking legs for his dining table and sofas. so... both of us feel its money well-spent!
  25. hey forkie, what are the dimensions of ur mirror? it looks huge! was it quoted together with ur reno contract with ur ID? any idea how much it is? we might need to do our own mirror also... urs looks impressive
