  1. Hi tension_z, Glad that you can find support in this forum, ask, read, learn more then go confront your ID if he or sub-con tries to smoke you in order to avoid doing retifications. Hope that in the end, all will turn out fine for you. Hi Shivan, In a way it's good to lay living/dining tiles before the bedrooms are screed. This is so that it is easier to get a living/dining floor that is leveled and higher than the kitchen. Also easier to check that the HDB people have screed the 3 rooms to the same level.
  2. Thanks for all the advices and the contact, I went to the website to see immediately liao... but you never tell me how much you paid for the WC leh? I saw the simple American Standard WC at Hoe Kee, not bad and it is about $245. This Genova one looks even more simple and sleek so if around the same price or cheaper, then I will get this instead. Ya KDK fans are the best, I'm using the standing one currently. But in terms of visual design it's not so nice leh. Nevermind I let HB decide, afterall he will be the one cleaning it and anything wrong also he's in charge!
  3. Hi nautilus, Thanks for your reply. So what's the best price you were quoted then? Can PM me if you don't want to post here.
  4. Hi kajua, I just recently signed up with Ideal house too. I like the look of your WC, can you tell me Genova's contacts and how much you paid for it? Have you tried out the KDK fan? Is it really quiet and powerful? I am considering the fan you got or the Amasco Twister which is more flat and visually looks nicer. If my living//dining area is as big as yours I will have gone for the new 60 inch KDK that can imitate natural breeze.
  5. I am considering a Backcare 4 or the Advance S1000 but I have not gone down to the Simmons gallery yet to see/try the S1000. Does anyone know how much does the S1000 cost? Including the foundation/boxspring? BTW, there's a 150th Anniversary Preview Sale for card members at Robinson on 9th and 10th April, maybe got better deals for mattresses, can check it out.
  6. Hi Mrs Png, Your reno progress is fast and the house is looking good. I like your laminate and glass kitchen door and may be also doing one like yours. However, I am also considering whether will those solid wood with glass insert type be better (though ID said that it will not blend in with bomb-shelter feature). Do you find the opening and closing of your kitchen door easy and smooth? Hi Redwyrm, I also just signed up with him very recently...wow 35K, you must have lots of capentary. Is yours a 5 room? My renos will prob start when yours is completing, would love to go see your place one day. Let me know whether you got any problems with the electrical works, if have, I can help you nag at our ID too.
  7. $180? Well that depends on the size, quality, design and the real age of the item. But if it's not an authenic antique but just a repro, then I'll rather stick with those plywood cheapo ones for now. I'll rather save up to buy a more prominent piece of furniture like sofa, dining table etc first. Well the BS wall feature we had in mind is just as you have described. But it's about $2K! So I'll just let the ID proposed first, see whether really useful or worth it or not. If really want to save can still scrap that off the list. Then the most just hang a curtain in front of the BS door. Saw yr post to me at the TPY thread, so are you considering using them too? As for me, I actually just confirm my ID already. BTW, my unit number is the same as yours, I remembered wrongly in that quoted post.
  8. Mine is just an idea, it might not be easy to find antique furniture that is reasonable now. If you keep the floors and walls plain, it will be fine to have a nice peranakan piece in the living room. Or you can use the porcelian or jewellery as a decoration. My mum used to get secondhands from garage sales and Salvation Army, our house is a mix of stuff. Hope my mum pass them to me next time! I am not building in bed too, in fact, other than the kitchen cabinets and the MBR wardrobe (due to the extreme lack of space), I would preferbly have no other built-ins at all. However, may do the bomb shelter wall so as to have some storage at that narrow gap betw main door and wall.
  9. Hihi, Think we have the same floor plan and similar tastes! I'm going for colonial/scandivanian/peranakan instead of the modern glossy look. (I don't like glass and reflective surfaces). Just want to say that I planned my bed and wardrode in the same layout as you, just that for me, the wardrobe on the right near the window will be a chest of drawers instead. That way can buy ready made ones and also makes the room look bigger. But I must add that your left wardrobe drawing gave an answer to one of my headaches... to fit my theme, I wanted doors instead of sliding like what you have but was thinking how to fit in the bedside tables. I can consider raising the height of the casement doors like you drew.
  10. Thanks, is it very hard to coord? I had thought of asking Patrick to quote me leh.
  11. I'm interested in RB-2CG because of it's small size and sleek look [ HDB's tiny kitchens] Anyone has feedback about Rinnai's hobs and inner flame burners? Not much info on the website about the technology etc. Is it really if you spill something then cannot clean properly? Can it fit small pots (like how those controlable 3 gas rings other brands can).
  12. So did anyone use silestone at all? Do you know what is the price range for those plain (not granite looking) ones? Does the local vendor have all that is on the usa website? I am very tempted to splurge for it, a mid range Corian can be already $130 psf.
  13. Hi sakae_sushi, Nice flat design! Can I ask you about the living room tiles, are they homo or ceramic? They look like non-glossy white tiles to me and that look is what I want for my living/dining. However, a few IDs/contractor have told that there is no "non-glossy" + "full white" homo tiles in the market. They said most have streaks or are glossy.
  14. Let's see, other foodies available at TPY central but not represented here are: Old Chang Kee donuts [please help add on] Maybe someone can also provide misc items such as utensils (small plates, forks, spoons, wet tissue) and black trash bags? These can add up to quite a few bucks too.
  15. Aiyah, I very blur leh..*blush*. I actually remember my own unit wrongly . My unit is 17. But I just went to your blog and saw your trunking. Looks good... will get my HB to go take a look and decide whether we want aircon.
  16. Hi Mrs Png, I'm also from Blk B unit 19, I am still looking for ID. I approached Ideal house for quote but have not met up for further discussion yet. Can you share your quote with me? I'm planning to overlay both toilets, kitchen floor and maybe even kitchen wall. Those ID I approached have quoted me 26-30K but with minimal carpenty (no feature walls). I think the quotes are not very cheap and want to compare around. Also are you planning to install aircon? Is it very hard to run the trunking due to the beams? Thanks
  17. Hi bonkitty, Never considered that they will steal water... hmm. I am more concern about them anyhow using the toilets/dumping cement into the drains. So many things to guard against, very tiring. Like that must note meter reading before passing them the key. Did you have any problems with your cement screeding? Hi alexneock, Oh you are using Intent, I went by their shop early last year when I happened to be in Thomson Plaza. I got the impression that they are quite expensive and that their ideas are more daring (quite retro/pop actually, when you see their portfolio). So I have not gone back to ask for a quotation. But I'm curious, how much was your quotation?
  18. I also just saw the HDB website, surprised to see some high floors still available. Maybe some people give up after booking. Like Bonkitty and Sushibabe, I'm really thankful that we got our unit in Aug 2005. I compared the prices and indeed the price for those whom balloted then went up about $60-70K... (will be more for SERS). If I were to ballot now and kena No.1 Q number, I don't think I can afford to buy now. Really feel so sad for those young couples settling down. Dunno how my younger cousins can afford it when their turn comes in 5-10 years. Well it's really Gong Xi Fa Cai for us here then! (And HDB of course)
  19. Gong Xi Gong Xi! Here's wishing all neighbours a prosperous Rat year!
  20. Anyone with completed/nearly completed renos intending to rent out rooms? My sis's tuition teacher helping a retired middle-age couple search for a room to rent. Please PM me. Thanks.
  21. Hi Chunkymonkey, Thanks! I'll have to consider my usage to see if it's really worth it to spend then. Was looking through Teka's hobs recently, it is enamel grids now already. But the designs of the non-glass types quite limited.
  22. Hi Chunky Monkey, Do you mind sharing with me what's the cost like for the combi and the big oven? PM me also can. I am planning budget now and want to see if I can squeeze a De Dietrich in...
  23. Orrh...can turn off then okay..can't imagine if you activate liao but cannot off mains then if one switch forgot to off after checking or taps not tight... then few days no one knows. *$$ fly* I will also pop by your place if free then, you sprayed yr common toilet right? I want to see effect good or not. Hee... i haven't seen Crispy's nor Jo's place yet too.
  24. Hi Redhat, We did chase, started chasing when had news that loan letters for B were out from early Nov. Ours was dated 14 Nov, not as early as some of you. But we were overseas so only handed in on 2nd last day of deadline (27th). Chase and chase since their initial answer to us was 'keys by Dec'. Finally, got news yesterday that we can collect in early Jan lor. Hi All, Since we will only be starting renos after CNY, any advice when should we start the utilities? It will be no use for more than a month so should I only plan to start them in Feb? Then can I also submit the defects list later? Coz if no electric supply, how to test power or lighting points?
