  1. I'm also looking at Ikea lights now... How about the Ikea Beryl 4 bulb spotlight available in white or black? I'm thinking of getting it for one of my bedrooms to light the wardrobe
  2. I've ordered study table and sofa from vHive before, no problem. In fact, I find their products are pretty solid and sturdy and better than the Ikea equivalent. If you say that hinges come off Vhive wardrobe, well I have an Ikea wardrobe, after some time hinges can come loose as well.. the advantage of ikea wardrobe is that the parts are standardised so you can get replacement parts, 7 years later.... Recently I ordered dining tables from them, they delivered on time, no problem, correct model and colour but wrong length! I called them up, they say they'll check, called me back within 30 minutes to arrange exchange and redelivery today. Hoping they will deliver the correct table.....
  3. thanks for reading and all your comments. update. we purchased dining tables from VHive but they delivered the wrong length. They'll redeliver this week and I hope to be able to post a picture of the dining table and chairs. The dining table lights are 2x orange/white pendants from Philips. Hope the effect is nice. I haven't actually decided what bulb to use, for the time being using some old 14w philips globe-shaped CFL for testing until can decide what sort of light level required.
  4. i have an ikea kitchen with red gloss doors. 1 year no problems, still looks nice and new.
  5. Bought 2 'IP44 water resistant' balcony lights from LEDWorks for the living room balcony (chose the dark grey colour - this kind of design, can always spray paint to different colour ) Bulb I bought from my usual sources. I had actually looked around some Balestier Road shops for cheaper alternatives that I liked but couldn't find anything, so went with something that I liked (I like the 360 degree diffusion of light).
  6. Bathroom 1: Black and white theme Our initial choice of shower holder was too tall for the bathroom, fortunately, shop allowed exchange since not installed yet.Bathtub: we shower rather than take baths, but since there was already a bathtub there, it would be a nice treat for young children to be able to take an occasional bubbly bath. However, wanted a bath that would be easy to shower in - straight sides, not too high. Couldn't find anything in Balestier but our relative helped us find one that fit exactly and only 460mm tall. Bathroom 2: Blue and white theme Blue mosaic wall not visible in photoI think the brown is a cover protecting the mirror? hmm got to find out.E-saver water heater timer switch for all bathroomsbathroom1 and 2: 2 light switches, one for PLC downlight, the other for 2xMR16 LEDs above sinkAs you can see, very small bathrooms, but multiple small bathrooms better than fewer but large for family with children.
  7. Invisible grilles for the dining room Bannister are up. I like the see-through effect. Price - well, we found the alternatives ugly and/or obstructed too much light that we just have to bear the cost.
  8. I'm in the midst of renovation and have gotten a lot of useful information for RT, so finding a way to contribute my own experiences and information gained that others may find useful. I actually started a blog at Renovation Blog Link because I can use labels to organise the information per room so that people interested in reading about a particular room can simply click on the room label. Not many posts yet, but it's a start. Renovation Beginnings We started planning the renovation about 6-9 months before the renovation started so we had time to do research with me specialising in searching RT (I found using google to search RT far better than using RT's own search function) We also discussed our plans with a relative who is an architect to make our ideas got her seal of approval as well. For renovation we used a contractor recommended by our relative and since we did not have any special or unusual needs, we designed and planned the renovation ourselves by drawing sketches of what we wanted. The contractor then sent the sketches to a designer to translate this into scale drawings, we gave our feedback, and renovation started. Our renovation isn't perfect, but I think it is definitely an above-average and a good experience and hope it finishes well. So far the quality of work is pretty good to us, though we are not experts (maybe have to wait a few years to find out...) Finally, apologies if I don't seem to be responding promptly as I may not be reading RT every day now that most of my research is complete.
  9. any of the regular Balestier shops can get like Chan Huat or lightings.com.sg which are frequently mentioned in RT. unfortunately, i couldn't find the fitting i liked from Chan Huat so I only bought the bulbs from Chan Huat and the fittings elsewhere.
  10. Hi, I don't see any grille in the link provided. It looks just like a regular MR16 LED replacement, in which case, a number of retailers will be soon be sending you personal messages to tell advertise their MR16s. They are widely available in Balestier plus the Philips lighting shop (LEDWorks), if you want to pay a bit more for the philips brand name. If you go Balestier, they will all say Philips costs more because of brand name only... up to you to believe.... I am installing both Philips and optiled (from Chan Huat)
  11. I'm looking at this lock too. It's good that the physical key cannot be duplicated. Can just leave the spare physical key in parents' home in case of emergency, not for daily usage. Since only 4 RFID cards provided, not enough spare cards to give RFID card to parents and anyway, I think they prefer to hold actual physical key anyway.
  12. instead of using dedicated LED lighting, I bought existing MR16 fixtures and used LED MR16 bulbs with them. This way, I have a choice of brands and wattage, and in the future, if they release new models with better 'colour', possible to just swap out the bulb. Finally, worst, case, not bright enough, can put back Halogen bulb. But so far so good, I'm satisfied with the MR16 LEDs that I have. I bought mainly from Chan Huat plus the Philips lighting store.
  13. thanks for all the info. Yes, i was interested in the ikea jamsunda table, but its discontinued but i was not aware they were clearing final stocks.... In the end, i was thinking that i have young children who will want to use the table for arts and craft, hobby activity, I will go for cheap but solid table, in the end ordered a cheap basic 2m white dining table from vhive. Save the expensive table for another day when children are older.
  14. Hi, anyone has a 2 metre dining room table in your room, care to share where you got it? I've been to all the usual shops found by search engines, and I find that the shops that carry 2metre tables charge "expat" prices of $2000+ for such tables. On the other hand, mass market like Scanteak do not have long dining tables. Can someone recommend some moderately priced shops that have 2 metre wood tables? Thanks.
  15. Can you recommend a shop that has a good selection of Osram / Philips LEDs for MR16 (gu3.5) replacement. I notice from the websites that Osram, Philips LED MR16 replacements have different beam angles for different applications 60, 30, 25, 10 degrees angle. Another question. If I am installing a completely new downlight in false ceiling, would you recommend buying an existing MR16 casing with transformer which is widely available and installing MR16 LEDs into them rather than buying a dedicated LED spotlight?
  16. I went to Lush and the salesgirl was very helpful definitely no posh attitude from her. Payment terms is 100% upfront unlike Comfort Furniture which is 50% deposit. Lush has some chairs that Comfort doesn't seem to have (maybe I not looking hard enough), for example, Series 7 dining chairs, and they do Swan chairs in leather while Comfort told me Swan is fabric only. Any other reliable source for Swan/Egg chairs besides Lush/Comfort?
  17. thanks for all the links and info, really appreciate it.
  18. Hi, where can I buy the Jacobsen Swan and Jacobsen Egg chair in Singapore? What's the price range like? Thanks
  19. Hi, I need to do a back to back renovation. Renovate new place and then renovate old place (for renting out). Relatively straightforward renovations (no fancy designs), painting, all toilets to be renovated etc... For new place would also like to put false ceilings /cove lighting in all rooms, so contractor should be experienced in false ceiling / lighting installation works. Also, the contractor has to speak English and is prepared to talk through the project with me... please pm me the contact, thanks. erwin
