hi, been troubled lately about the color of windows and curtains, can someone help : will be changing all my windows as they are old, the dark film is peeling and the handles are loose and cannot be tighten. I was thinking of getting black glass, as i thought it will keep the sun glare out but was told that the whole house would look dark and gloomy, but if i were to go for clear glass, i was afraid it would be too bright and have to use curtains to tone down the brightness, next about the type of windows, i am definitely going for sliding ones as current ones are the swing out ones and the hinges are tight when pushing out and feels weak, worried that it might drop off and kill someone but should i get those with top swing panels for ventilation when i am out and in the kitchen, if there is gas leak, the gas would be able to go out instead of accumulating in the house, also if there is someone sick and cannot turn on aircon and does not want to use fan, that panels allows for ventilation as well, but down side is difficult to clean and not smooth 1 piece, there are corners to wipe, finally curtains, should i go for full length or half ? current window is half length and whole wall is windows, from left to right all the way for living, 2 bedrooms, thinking of roller blinds but might need few sets to cover entire length so not so nice, then how many layers ? mash, day and night curtains ? depending on 1st question, what color is window glass ? so many opinions but cannot decide and worried that i make the wrong decision and regret every day, can anyone share some thoughts, thanks

hi, can anyone advise where you location your electrical outlet locations ? i mean, should be where you want to connect to your appliances but need some advise about the following 1 ) if custom built study table with top hung swing cupboard, if the electrical outlet location put above table then can see all the plugs and if put multi plugs, seems to make the table top ugly and disorganized, if put under the table, need to bend down and plug in your plugs, sometimes need to off when not in use, it is a bit of hassle, applies to other places as well, do you install a lot of electrical outlets or just 2 or 4 in each bedroom is fine ?

hi, can anyone share if they have bought an hood which has a reservoir for collecting oil which can be poured away ? i know only Fujioh, fx-900, can, all others seems to be absorbing the oil in their carbon which cannot be removed so means if full of oil, have to change new one, right ? only can remove the filter to wash it. any comments about inner flame ? all hobs are stainless steel and would not rust, right ? saw some posting that the flame thing got rust, glass or stainless steel ? will glass crack easily ? finally, with or without safety valve ?

hi, can anyone advise if positioning aircon above cupboard is good ? what are the chances of aircon drain pipe leaking ? due to layout of house or size, aircon might have to be place on top of built in cupboard but worry that if aircon leak, will seep into cupboard and damage built in cupboard, if position other side, then difficult to run the piping, can some one advise Uploaded with ImageShack.us

anyone here bought dish washer for their new home ? one colleagues keep promoting to me the advantages of a dish washer, you save water as the dish washer is like washing machine and the water is used to rinse all the dishware and when manual washing, the water used to wash 1 item is wasted then it used heat to sterilise the dishware after wash if manual wash, there might be splashing on the top or onto the floor, then you have to mop the floor, then after washing , the person is tired out and does not have energy to do something like take a stroll or other stuff in the house, so anyone agree or disagree ?

latest update, will have final inspection at end of Sept 2012, then will officially take over 1 week later, still have not finalize or meet with any contractor or designer due to bad experience about some designer kept pestering me to meet up or asking me to take up their " very worth it " packages and i had to sms them to say that i will not be engaging their services then they left me alone and it is like 5 or 6 firms so fed up with them, some never got back to me after quoting me, some good news though, i emailed the hdb and asked about the installation of 2nd toilet bowl in the bathroom and they said it can be done, just they want to see how the contractor plan to install the toilet bowl and submit to them their proposal, also about the max ampere for the house, they mentioned it has been upgraded to 40A recently and i was able to install 2 compressors outside, will kick start and read about other people's blogs and start the renovation plan and research again, hope all the seniors out there, can give their opinions and recommendations,

can pm me the contacts of the husband and wife tiler ? is it true that using homogenous tiles, there will always be a line between 2 tiles while using marble tiles, you cannot see the line at all ? or it depends on the skills of the tiler ? is it okay to get marble like tiles or just plain homogenous tiles if you cannot afford marble ? refer to 1st question, cause if you get marble like homogenous tiles but have thick lines between the tiles, might get laughed at by visitors or friends when they visit

just went for 1st appt today and 2nd appt of completion will be on 2nd July 2012, handover will be private arrangement between me and seller via agent on 2nd Oct 2012, much relief but it was mentioned that there are upgrading costs involved, wonder what are the upgrading and the costs, looking forward to handover and start reno and move in to my home,
