  1. I agreed with you that Kraus sink quality is very good. Note that the there are gaps at the plastic legs for the s/s bottom grid. You need to constantly flush out food residue that will get trap. You might want to consider putting silicon to fill up the gap to prevent fine food particles from getting trapped in the plastic legs. Later you can easily remove the old silicon using a sharp end tool and re-fill with new silicon.
  2. I've been to Mayer's showroom and seen the sink. My personal opinion is that Kraus quality is much better. The finishing and the exterior pading is much better than Mayer's. Mayer's sink and tap bundle is attractive. I bought Kraus 32" square sink less than $690 and Song Cho stainless steel tap (the same design as Mayer's tap) at $128. Mayer's sink is around 27" wide. Price difference is less than $300 for a wider and better quality 32" Kraus sink??
  3. Yes, you are too late. Price wise, Haiku is like the Prada or LV premium brands for ceiling fans. Performance wise, very quiet but not as breezy and strong as the noiser fans including KDK. But I'm happy with the wind strength in exchange for fan's oscillation noise. You don't even realise the fan is on as it's so quiet. Energy saving wise, the range is from 4 watts (possible?) to 30 watts. So definitely energy consumption is much lesser. Haiku's electricity consumption at top speed is lesser than the lowest speed of KDK fan. Design wise, certainly better looking than KDK and most brands. Before the big price increase, Haiku fan was 20% (about $150) more ex than a 60" KDK fan. Now the price is 200% more ex, something like 2 kdk 60" fans for 1 Haiku.
  4. Hi, I bought 3 units before the big, big, big price increase. It was installed at the living, dining and master room. It is running relatively quiet and windy. However, the strength of the wind is not as strong as the AC motor type of fans like Franco or KDK. Note that Haiku fans is on DC motor type and the maximum wattage is 30w unlike the other brands of AC motor fan whose wattage can go up to 80w at top speed. The price of 1 haiku fan (bought in April 2012) can buy me 2 kdk 44" ceiling and 3 wall fans with some dollar change thrown in (kdk fans bought from Malaysia). Personally, I love the fan and did not hesitate to buy then. But at today's 4 digits price, I might have to think thrice.....
  5. Hi Potato, I can share my experience regarding the need for a wider sink cabinet. It could be a space buffer between the hob and the sink where you can do some food preparation or food ingedients in plates/bowls ready to be cooked. It is a practical reason for this buffer. Ask your contractor why are they going for 27"? 24" seems enough but the extra inch does no harm though.
  6. I think the standard kitchen cabinet's depth is 600mm. There are plenty of space to install a typical kitchen tap. Your cabinet contractor would have to cut out the the holes for your sink and tap. Next your countertop contractor would do the on-site measurements. Within a week's time, the countertop would be delivered with cut holes and your sink (undermount or topmount) have to be present for mounting. Next the plumber would come to do the final tap installation and water piping inspection.
  7. Not all the stainless steel materials used for the sinks are the same. The commercial specs SUS304 may be the same for all but the quality of the sinks varied greatly. Get a better quality sink.
  8. Just PM you a direct contractor I used for my reno. Price and service were good.
  9. Later I realised the s/s bottom grid plastic legs got gaps. So imagine if you put the grid into the sink, the small food particles would get trapped and you spend time washing and digging them out. Take a close look on the plastic legs to know why. So lucky me and those who copy me would have escape the problem.
  10. The runaway company is in a vicious cycle. They first owe money, then need fresh funds to pay old debts and current expenses, then owe more money, then need more funds to pay and it keeps snowballing till the company comes to a standstill by police. Someone who sue them is just one case for the company. What about many other victims who didn't sue? Even if they sue the company, at most the company closed down and yet they can't get back their money. It's not a desirable win-win situation for the victims.
  11. Welcome to the Kraus kitchen sink buyers club. Take note that the stainless steel bottom grid may be trapped if the counter top edge exceed the circumference by 10mm. You have to keep the counter-top flush to the edge of the sink so that you can take out the bottom grid to wash. But the edge silicon would be exposed and in the long run it would turn moldy, yellow colour. For me, I remove the bottom grid as my counter-top edge exceed by 10mm and you don't see any silicon. Instead I use the bottom grid as as trivet. A trivet is an object placed between a serving dish or bowl, and a dining table or countertop , usually to protect the table from heat damage. It may be a metal stand with short feet, used under a hot dish on a table or use for supporting cooking. Since I have a 2200mm by 1200mm island counter-top cabinet, my 760mm by 420mm s/s bottom grid can be used as a trivet for hot baking trays, boiling soup pots etc.....
  12. I don't think there's big difference in cleaning. I've been using the 32" square sink for 2 months. I love the depth and spaciousness. I just feel that the space at the 4 corners are optimised compared to a rounded sink. Compare the volume of the round and square 23" sink....not sure if there's any big difference?
  13. Movable island? You and your wife try moving or pushing a few hundred kilo of matter. Once you put your stuff into the cabinets, on top of the island, you may not want to move.....
  14. The technical specs can be found from kdk and haiku websites. Note that the comparison is between 60" kdk and 60" haiku
  15. Can't compare kdk stand fan vs haiku ceiling fan. Just my opinion that 1. kdk blow stronger at rpm 97 to 233 compare to haiku at rpm 33 to 172 and 2. consumes more electricity going at 16w to 71w as compare to haiku at min 2w to max 30w. You google to find out on ac fan motor vs dc fan motor. Here here are some explanation on the cost diff and energy consumption diff AC-powered fans have a mechanically simple design that is cheaper to install and maintain, making them cost-effect in the short- or medium-term. However, AC-powered motors also consume more energy and are generally noisier than their DC counterparts. DC-powered furnaces are more expensive to buy, but use less energy and last longer than AC motors. They are also quieter. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5346027
  16. I just installed a Haiku fan at my dinning room today. My wife loves the design. I bought 3 units last month. I think it is true the price would go up steeply. It is energy saving by 50% of the normal fan usage. The reason being the motor is DC as compared to most brands including kdk that uses AC motor. The price may be a deterrant for some as you can buy 2 or 3 other fans for every 1 haiku fan. The wind is not as strong kdk fan as I've got 5 kdk stand fans at home to compare. But it is certainly very quiet and the wind strength is good enough for me. For those who prefer very strong wind, stick to kdk and accept the strong wind noise I've no regret paying for haiku fan. Its an investment.
  17. If you break down the kitchen wall, the entire length from the living area to the end of the kitchen is as long as my open concept kitchen that comes with an island countertop of 7 ft by 4 ft.
  18. I'm not sure if it is any better for the tap mounted directly on the sink. I've seen how my sink cabinet was constructed. First the carpenter created the same size hole as the tap on the wooden carcass. Then the countertop guy created a hole on the countertop when he mount the countertop on the wooden carcass. The tap is mounted on top the countertop and screwed between a layer of the countertop and a layer of wood. In your case I guess the sink would be on top the wooden carcuss. Then your carpenter might cut a bigger hole so that the tap is connected directly to the sink or he create the same size hole of the tap on the wooden carcass and the tap is screwed between a thin layer of sink and a layer of wood. Which way is better, to mount tap directly on the sink or mount tap on the countertop?
  19. I would expect the algae when given time to colonise the silicon area in a designated wet area. It is in their DNA to be around. Unless you can dry clean your kitchen utensiles and cutlery, you just got to accept the dark green thingy to make home on the silicon.
  20. Erm.......I think he needs to visit the 4 buyers to feel and take measurements of the 4 different Kraus sinks
  21. Yes, my faucet tap was mounted on top of the counter top though my square sink is undermount.
  22. I think we purchased the sinks from amazon.com and we are very impressed with the quality. You might want to communicate with the other buyers for their feedback. You may go to kraus website for the specifications and details : http://www.krausproducts.com/kitchen/kitchen-sinks
