just btw, is your Ariston heater the 1.5kW model or 3kW model? cos in my previous place, we use the 3kW model and it always take around 15-20 mins to heat up (ours was 30L). now at my current place, it's old flat so i can only use 1.5kW one. it takes around 25 mins to heat up (15L). so heating time is more about the power rating and not about the brand... heat capacity of water will not change mah

Hi, even if your house is new with 40 amps supply, HDB still does not allow any appliances with power rating higher than 15 Amps. you can refer to here: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/...al?OpenDocument "Appliance with electrical rating exceeding 15amps power is not allowed. 20amps isolator is only allowed for air conditioner installation" is it possible to exchange with the shop? there are some models around that can be used in HDB but very limited Taiyo even has one that can be used on normal 13A socket.

yes!! i like anything ume (Japanese plum)~ my fren hor, everyday drives from Sengkang to Queenstown to drop their kids at in-law's, then ferry wife to Jurong East to work, then himself drives to Senoko for work... super long journey... that's the price to pay with not having maid...... i'd love to have glass backsplash but didn't do due to budget constraint We told Henry we only had 4 weeks to reno, but ended up taking 6 weeks due to many unforeseen circumstances... like you, my hubby also supposedly die die need to move but in the end, he had no choice but extended his rental for 2 extra weeks, it was good that he has a very nice landlord... you may wanna discuss with your landlord first to leave some buffer, cos sometimes is not anyone's fault, just that you may really need that additional time for reno. -
hey bro congrats!! can see that you're really excited~ enjoy your new home!

my hitachi fridge is R-Z451EMS/R-Z451EMSX. can't remember which one... anyway it's the stainless steel 365L one: http://www.hitachiconsumer.com/sg/products...s.aspx?oid=2851 on the Manhatten Card, lemme try my best to explain... rebate from Manhatten Card is based on monthly spending. If your monthly statement is: below $500 = 0.5% rebate $500-1500 = 1% rebate $1501-3000 = 2% rebate $3000 = 5% rebate rebate will be credited after every quarter. So if you get your card in Feb and start spending, the rebates will come in June's statement. but the catch is: each quarter you can only get maximum of $300 rebate. Hence, to maximize rebate, you need to do the following. Say, in a quarter: 1st month: spend $3001. rebate = $150 2nd month: spend $3001. rebate = $150 3rd month: don't spend anything (if there is a 2nd card from husband/wife, can use his/her card during this month) Rebate for quarter = $300 = 5% rebate. If husband and wife each has a card, then altogther they can get $300x2 = $600 rebate per quarter. i used this card for everything: wedding, reno, travel, dining (when there is no other credit card discount). even the lowest 0.5% rebate is better than many of the credit card point system, which typically converted to be ~0.3-0.4%, and you know you will get the rebate... not like say the Citibank dividend card which you have to hit the $50 rebate within a certain period to get the money back. *disclaimer: i don't work for Stanchart. i really found this card useful so i'd like all my frens to know oh i recee Kong Tai before too... the uncle seems to be very friendly... haha.

Choya! consider getting those mini wine fridge ? the pay for maid is probably more ex than the bills rite -
That piece of "comforter" on top of the mattress is called the pillow top... yea la it made the mattress not as hard but i guess being a hard mattress, it "sinks" less than a softer mattress and can still give you better support... haha

last nite, i tried making piped butter cookies based on the recipe Rondy posted earlier: found that one side of my oven is quite a bit hotter and the cookies on that side all turned out burned even i tried rotating the tray~ BunBun, is it you that is using a Panassonic oven? btw, Rondy, have you tried this piped butter cookie before? what is the size of the star nozzle u used? i already got the biggest open star nozzle i found in phoon huat (22 i think) but still looks much smaller than the one in that website~

Oops didn't read RT until today... hahahaha the cheaper veggie stall is the one manned by an old couple... the skinny uncle is very friendly

i used Wagner's wedding march for processional, Mendelssohn's wedding march for recessional also got my voice teacher to sing this song called "Cherish the Treasure" during our signing of ROM cert. As for banquet march-in, got my frens to do Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (Piano + violin + soprano solo) Rutter's "For the Beauty of the Earth" - i sang it back in my school choir days hmmm seems like our choice of songs is kinda classical, ya?

your bro more niao mah... hahaha we made Henry went to 3 shops: first LSH, then Taugres, finally Hafary... my fault cos i saw something i like at LSH during my own recee, but when we visited again, we decided not to use it... hahahaha... spent about 3+ hours in total i think.

actually we also don't have curtains yet... but the difference is... we're not hiding in the dark when changing cos our windows are unblock and no one can see us anyway... hahahaha

Mega has price matching policy, so if you found it's cheaper somewhere else, you can call them up to reduce the price. BUT, but, if you wanna use credit card, you pay everything upfront then can't do this anymore. so it's better to survey around first then go there. i was lucky cos i didn't do much research on fridge price... went there becos of good comments on RT. ended up, the stainless steel model is $50 to even $100 cheaper than other stores i visited~ i also didn't have much requirement about fridge, most important thing is energy saving cos fridge is probably the only piece of appliance that works 24/7 at home. Hitachi one is 4 ticks, looks good, feels good, price is right, so i got it other 4 ticks ones include Fisher & Paykel i think. mine is 365L iirc... i cook about 3 to 4 times per week and do marketing once a week. only the freezer and the veggie compartment is filled.. middle part is almost always empty LOL... but i supposed if we cook more in future, the "population" in the fridge will increase yup Mega Discount at Kallang Leisure Park... i think they have 2 more outlets, one in UE square and the other one forgot where~ No the Manhatten Card doesn't go by calender quarter. Say, if you get your card in Feb, then your quarter is Feb~Apr, May~Jul etc... if you plan your purchase swee swee, 2 pple (say you and your WTB) together can get back $600 rebates per quarter leh~

but like i say, drinks take up a lot of space. if you keep a few packs of different drinks, half the fridge gone liao we didn't have this problem cos everyone drinks hot stuff.... or just water hahahaha i wish fridges can have a bigger freezer compartment though, cos that's the place where we normally store food for a long period of time... -
hubby's landlady used to cycle to that market. Sorry dunno where is it exactly but shouldn't be too far if an 60+ yr old auntie can cycle there btw, waw the big white tentage next to Jurong East MRT? that's what they're for Remarking Our Heartland - Our Jurong Lake Story Exhibition: 22 Jan 2011: 5pm ~ 9pm 23~26 Jan 2011: 10am ~ 9pm http://heartland.hdb.gov.sg/index.html

we used to cook for 4 pple daily (2 to 3 meals per day) and go market only once a week, the fridge is also ~400L and still got some free space! you really have a lot of food stuff~! but ya lor drinks can take up a lot of space.... Japanese and ang mohs different focus... Japanese: got a lot of water but electricity is tight - so top load machines save electricity but use a lot of water. Ang mohs: got a lot of electricity but even have difficulty getting clean drinking water - so front load machines use more electricity but save water.... In SG: both electricity and water are expensive.... -
hi~ hubby sent me this article which i thought is very informative: http://www.theatlantic.com/food/archive/20...erature/69555/# hope this sharing can benefit all the baking beginners like me

talking about fridge, my fridge is the Hitachi one you wanna get, but of a smaller capacity. from what i surveyed, Mega has the best price for the stainless steel one. hope it's still the same now... do remember to check it out btw, get the Stanchart Manhatten Card, plan your purchase swee swee to get the maximum 5% rebate every quarter

LOL... my hubby is a v pragmatic person who believes that less is more. for me, i like things that can be moved around, so you can see i don't have any built-in carpentry except for kitchen - he can agree to this point cos off-the-shelf furniture are cheaper but when it comes to lights.... it's a big some more we have ceiling fans everywhere, so the only option for fixed lighting is... L-box with downlight.... i'd love to have pendant lights though.... i'm prepared to host many parties/gathering at home but my friends all said.... Jurong is very far!

counter top is counter top, backsplash is backsplash. they are quoted separately. if you quote did not say anything about glass backsplash, then the price is not included...

i'm using a Brandt front load and they have this "flash 40" mode that washes clothes in 40 mins. i always wash full load in this function cos i dun feel my clothes are THAT dirty if you're used to Japanese top load... you'll feel that front load wash cycles are VERY LONG *faint* -

you are living alone rite? so actually do you really need such a big fridge...? just for your consideration cos fridge is switched on 24-7 and consumes quite a bit of electricity, and bigger fridge = more electricity used = more $ ~ and... my personal opinion on fridge with side-by-side door: i think it's very nice to look at but it effectively reduces the usable space for the container/bottle racks... hope you get what i mean. so side-by-side type only sensible for a wide fridge, and this goes back to my previous question: do you need such a big fridge? -
