Ikea - No Free Deliveries And Added Storage Charges

Not a fair statement; if signboards are not meant for reading, then what are signboards for? I hope you do not drive...because I will not want to drive anywhere near you... -
Ikea - No Free Deliveries And Added Storage Charges
zirhk3355 replied to fatmian's topic in Home Furnishings
Ikea always justify its prices (which they claimed is cheap and good) by cutting down on other services, eg freight, flat packaging, no free deliveries, no free plastic bags, etc etc. But kudos to them for being upfront about it; you should read all the "Why...That's Why!" boards they put around everywhere. They may be stingy on fringe services, but at least they don't hide it. -
http://www.magneticscreen.com.sg/ I know of this company though my contact; understand this is a dying, "sunset" trade in Singapore, so maybe they will give you a good offer if you can buy more.

I stay in a new estate with a sky garden too, and even before most of the residents move in, the sky garden is already vandalised beyond recognition; eg plants uprooted, fire hose reel broken, all the spray paint "I love you, you love me, who love who" all over the place. I am also a volunteer and doing community work in my area. Sorry if I am seen bursting ur bubble, but is still feasible? HDB flats, other than your flats itself, has always been public areas, eg the lift lobbies, corridors, sky gardens, carparks, etc. This is because unlike condos, you do not have strata title of the amenities; you only own your own flat. Thus, legally everything else don't belong to the residents and its a weak case to argue why the amenities should only be for residents. But if you guys have other justifications, I would like to hear about it too, so maybe can help my estate as well...

If this thread is true, I am really surprised that A&S has degraded to this extent. If one search this forum on their shop, one would realise they had quite a few good comments. Which led me to buy from them about 1year+ ago. My experience with them was also good, everything promised was delivered accordingly.

If you buy a 2nd hand car and LTA says the windows are too dark and illegal, and the owner cannot sell it unless he removes it. Does it mean the owner can sell the car to you without windows?? It is stated in the inventory that the flat comes with aircon. If its illegally installed, then its the owner's responsibility to rectify it BUT there still must be aircon since that was what being agreed.

Good for the lift's attendant, huh? "Which floor, sir?" -
If you just wana look at auctions thinking of a bargain, you will be disappointed. Buying properties is not like buying some electrical products; each property is unique by itself and sometimes cannot be compared. At auctions, many of the properties are actually abandoned by the owners. Also, auctions are often mistaken to have cut-throat prices; more often than not, the property's value had fallen below the mortgage loan, that's why the owners abandon them and just let the bank do necessary foreclosure. Thus the banks will be putting an auction's reserve price at least equivalent to the outstanding mortgage amount in order to recover their debts, which can be higher than the value of the property. Also, given the bad economic situation, most banks would go all the way to negotiate a win-win situation with their mortgagee rather than doing a foreclosure on the property to auction off at the first instance of arrears. So those owners with nice houses who are in real difficulties will work closely with their banks to come to a solution. Need more proof? Read this: http://client.knightfrank.com.sg/auc/AH20082H.pdf If you want to find a good property at a good price, I suggest you list down your requirements and look at all avenues; auctions should be just one of them, and do note they may not be the cheapest.

Anyone here guilty of this?? Haha...I will also push the trolleys up to my flat if there's alot of things, but always made it a point to push it back...although sometimes not immediately lah. ;P -------- June 1, 2009 Trolley thieves EXPOSED Supermarkets lose up to 100 trolleys each month. They are either stolen, missing or are found abandoned. Amanda Tan & Yeo Sam Jo trawl the streets and 12 supermarkets to find out where these trolleys end up, who takes them, and why. --- AT DOWNTOWN East yesterday, two women emerged from NTUC FairPrice and had difficulty carrying their bags of groceries to the nearby Costa Sands Resort. Their solution: Push the trolley from the shopping centre to the chalet, where they were staying for the weekend. The women, who refused to be named, claimed to be Hong Kong tourists on holiday and cited convenience as their excuse for walking away with the trolley. 'We have to buy a lot of things for our barbecue,' said one woman in Mandarin. 'It was quite a distance to carry.' The other woman said: 'We saw other people doing it, so we just followed.' Indeed. When The Straits Times visited Costa Sands Resort Downtown East, it found at least two other FairPrice trolleys abandoned in the compound. Mr Prakash Gartoula, a cleaner at the resort, sees people wheeling these trolleys to their chalets about three times a day. 'Some return the trolleys,' said the 28-year-old. 'But most of them don't.' He added that the problem is most prevalent on Friday nights, when many people check into the resort and buy a lot of groceries for their stay. Cleaners at Goldkist Beach Resort in the East Coast echo Mr Gartoula's claims. There, ST found at least four abandoned trolleys from FairPrice and Giant Hypermarket yesterday evening. The cleaners themselves were using them as make-shift carriers for cleaning equipment and rubbish. Workers at both resorts said supermarket staff come around once in a while to retrieve the trolleys. At Parkway Parade's Giant Hypermarket, packer David Lee retrieves about three trolleys from outside the mall every day. 'These people are very inconsiderate,' said the 50-year-old. 'When they chuck the trolleys, it is us who have to go out there and push them all the way back. 'Some people will burn or spoil the lock, and there will be no more coins left in the (deposit) slot.' At Ang Mo Kio Hub's FairPrice, retail assistant Steven Tang, 22, receives several calls a week about stray trolleys. He also has to go out to retrieve them. At least three residents in the area admitted to wheeling trolleys back home. Retiree Sim Swee Leng, 70, said: 'My wife and I have too many groceries to carry, so we use the trolley. Sometimes we chain it to the railing outside our house ...and return it when we are free.' But Mr Teo Thian Chua, 73, who was pushing his trolley back to the store, said he or his family members always return their trolley immediately: 'I am only borrowing it and will definitely return it.' Mr Tang can see the customer's point of view: 'Sometimes we see an auntie with a trolley full of stuff, and we just cannot bear to ask her to return the trolley and carry everything by hand. 'So we just close one eye, and hopefully they return it.' tamanda@sph.com.sg yeosamjo@sph.com.sg ------------- Copyright © 2007 Singapore Press Holdings. All rights reserved. Its not really sheng siong's fault; where do you expect their vendors to park? Its the architectural design that is brainless. On hindsight, sheng siong should have been moved to the end of the MSCP (nearer to the MRT), so the trucks/vans can all go cramp there one corner for all we care. But of course now that its all built, there is no way to change such the structure liao. I have always been thinking about this, so if I had my way, this is what I will do: To make use of what we have, I suggest that the two ramp-ups can be converted to one way; going up is at the end of the MSCP (near to MRT), while coming down should be the one near to sheng siong's loading/unloading bay. And after coming down from the MSCP, all vehicles should be made to turn left ONLY to exit, while turn right should be blocked up. As for the main entrance (where the zebra crossing is), it should be made to be turn left for MSCP and turn right for loading/unloading. To go to the residential blocks, we should drive all the way to the entrance near the primary school and turn in. Good idea; though I have not washed car myself for the last 6 years, now that I changed to a 'smaller' ride it would be a good time to start over. Anyone got that portable sprayer for carwash?? Its so useful and convenient, like going to those professional manual carwash, just spray on the soap, spray off and wipe. Save water too! Saw a few models before, but quite ex leh. If we can regularise our carwash sessions, maybe can share to invest in one... One eg I saw: http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...7&indexURL= -

If you are the TC staff, would you serve warning letters based on a STOMP article and when you yourself had not seen the stove? Hehe, but I know you meant well and that's what we need in a community; people who cares. No action never mind, but better than being apathetic. Change topic: When can we revive our THUM??? Miss all of you leh... ;P -
Since I see you talking about day curtains, I guess you still want light, right? But sadly its true, day curtains will only take away the glare, but the heat can still come in. The only way is to use blackout curtains; ie you close it, totally no light at all.

Good advice! But you might want to check on the feasibility, eg is there a rejection column in HDB's OTP for seller to sign? Why would the seller want to sign? But you seemed to talking from experience? Mind sharing more details of your encounter...?

Let's cut them some slack lah. TC is not God; they cannot (and I also do not expect them to) be at the site 24/7. The neighbours are probably playing 'catching' with them, when TC comes, they remove the clutter. When they leave, the stove is placed back. And like I said the stove is not there all the time, so maybe on a few occasions when TC went there, they didn't see it. Its not an easy job, mate. -

Is It A Good Idea To Hack Away Existing Bath Tub?
zirhk3355 replied to a topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
Sorry, my bad, sometimes its not the waterproofing not done properly but it starts to erode over time. So what I was really trying to say is better to do it all over again. How to ensure maybe wuga98 can advise... ;P -
Is It A Good Idea To Hack Away Existing Bath Tub?
zirhk3355 replied to a topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
If $$$ permits, my vote is to remove the bathtub lah. Firstly its a personal thing, I dun like such personal items to be used ones, eg toilet bowls, beds, etc. Second the slippery surface can really be quite dangerous. I slipped on a non-slip rubber mat before (because never put the suction below properly) and hit my head on the side; the 'baluku' swelling on my head only subside after one week, not forgetting the blue-black on my arms, shoulders and backside as I struggled to break the fall. Painful experience! Can't imagine if a kid or old folk was the one who slip and fell instead of me... And in long-term, all the more must remove, because if the waterproofing was not done properly, then you will have spend even more $$$ to rectify leakages... -
For such latex (or 'sponge') mattresses, I think Tempur is the more established brand. Maybe you should check it out since you like such mattresses... But not cheap lor... $$$...hehe

Hxxg Txxx Korea Package Su_cks! Be Warned!

Actually every tour agencies also have lousy guides. I was recently put through an agonising tour by Chan Brothers also. There are alot of debates as to why the tour industry has degenerated to such an extent, eg too little salary, too competitive, too much emphasis on tips, etc. But the fact is, such nonsense is driving us away from tour packages; I see so many people going for free & easy nowadays, as the world becomes "smaller" with globalization, so many countries have english-speaking people and so much info can be found online. So the morale of the story is: Hit them where it hurts the most, stop booking tour packages! Do some research and work your own free & easy trips! But sometimes also inevitable la, especially when the lazy side of us took over. My last tour was because wifey and I were 'in-charge' of organising this family trip with old folks, aunties and uncles. We didn't want to screw things up and also being lazy, we took the easy way out to book a tour package. It was expensive, and totally not enjoyable at all; regret so much!
