All Tanglin Halt Road Neighbours! Report In Here!

Aiyo, sorry for my bad english; think I beat around the bush too much that you cannot understand me. Simply put, this charcoal stove owner does not really use the stove to cook their meals. They bought it just to spite their "Good Neighbour", whom I had mentioned isn't much of a saint himself. I dare say he had done worse things than the filth of a charcoal stove. This is a case of 'everitt road' neighbour dispute. Hope the above is clear enough. -

For that matters I was the one who previously said why our policemen are not patrolling as much as those on the streets of HKG. But I wasn't seriously asking them to visit every HDB estate every hour! Did you actually know how many HDB estate we have in Singapore? I will be the first to protest if they start to get our policemen to do such jobs... While who does the job remains debatable, what is clear to me now is that this is my home, I stay here; if something wrong and nobody is doing anything about it, I WILL DO IT. I am definitely not pro-government; I never am. But precisely because I am not that's why I am doing what I am doing; they cannot make it what, so I do myself lor. If I ever saw a kid scratching a car in the MSCP or vandalising the walls, h*ll, he will be lucky if I call the police! Who says I am powerless?? The point is, settle the problem first, complain later. I am sure those who care enough about your homes here in Tanglin Halt will also agree with me. I not asking you all to take the law into your own hands, but I hope we don't ever feel that we are powerless la... -

Your misconception of the whole situation is exactly what I meant by taking everything on stomp with a pinch of salt. I do not want to fan fire, so I will talk in a 'beat-around-the-bush' way, but just to let you guys in a little more on what you do not see on stomp: 1. The charcoal stove is not there all the time, its only out there at "certain times"; 2. 60% of the time the charcoal stove is not in sight, while only 10% of the time it is in use; 3. The improvised rack with bamboo poles, hangers, clothes, etc, you see on the railings does not belong to the charcoal stove's owner. No prize for guessing who it belongs to; 4. If you noticed, there are two religious altars on the wall; they belong to separate people; Lastly, since HDB was already informed, we saw it during the house visit together with HDB/TC/police/etc and the MP, why still nothing was done?? Think about it. -

I am not chairman! Haha... ;P And well, what do you expect me to say? During the last block visit, it is noted that Blk 90 is indeed quite problematic; alot of 'everitt road' cases. There are several spiteful neighbours who are just out to make others unhappy. Police had been called in a few times already, but such neighbourly disputes are really hard to resolve lor. If I didn't remember wrongly, I think I know where this charcoal stove is. However the one who is complaining about the stove is no saint either. There's always two sides to a story, guys...don't just read stomp and get all worked up. Remember stomp is really every kind of tom, dick and harry complaints they also post one, no filter system no quality checks one! Always take stomp with a pinch of salt... Not sure if this is cold comfort but the respective agencies were rapped that day, especially TC who went to close up the "man-made" hole on the bushes leading to Tanglin Halt road (near the roundabout). People need to walk, so you don't expect people who park their cars at the open carpark to go one big round. Hopefully they are going to build a staircase there soon. As for the roof garden, I remember TC is saying they will cut the plants shorter; currently the plants/grass are so long and tall, the whole garden looks so wulu, with alot of hidden corners. Then again, this is the problem with roof-gardens; unlike ground-floor gardens where there will be passerbys, roof-gardens is always more wulu and prone to vandalism and other hanky-panky business. Like I said before, those who are really concerned, can join me in the COP sessions and do your part for the community; currently its like died of natural death liao... -
Its all up for negotiation. If you state that they are to remove the fixtures, then they will just remove the fixtures. If you state that they are to remove the fixtures AND make good any damages that may arise from such removal, then they will have to do that accordingly. Always remember to state this in black and white, signed by both parties.

Did anyone experienced the same thing as me? Last night I was caught in the freak rain storm, when I got home at about 10+pm. I swear I never felt such wind in Singapore my whole life! The TREES along Tanglin Halt Rd were bent (I swear!), the plants at our playground looked like they are going to break off, sand flying everywhere, half-filled dustbins flew off, and I actually had difficulties opening my eyes and walking! People's laundry were falling off also, heng never got hit by the bamboo projectiles... Just saw the news today: April 23, 2009 Freak storm wreaks havoc By Felicia Wong , Derrick Ho A FREAKISH storm with strong winds uprooted trees, damaged cars and left a trail of destruction on Wednesday night, all within about 15 minutes. There were numerous reports of fallen trees island-wide, with at least one car damaged by the falling branches in an open carpark. At a housing estate in Dover Road, a large tree almost snapped in half and lay fallen on its side, with other branches strewn across the grassy area. Eyewitnesses also reported that large plastic barricades used in roadworks were blown across a road by the strong winds, causing traffic obstruction. Pham Tan Hung found a large tree fallen outside Hong Leong Gardens in Clementi while on his way to work on Thursday morning. 'It's a shocking scene to me. It covered the whole walking path to the bus stop, around 6 to 8 metres,' he wrote to straitstimes.com Weather maps from the National Environmental Agency (NEA)'s website showed that a rain storm blew over Singapore shortly after 11pm on Wednesday. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter were also abuzz with postings about the freak storm. Bloggers in Singapore also recounted personal stories, with many saying they were awoken by the violent rattling and slamming of doors caused by the winds. Others reported car alarms going off. 'We had to duck from the many things that were blowing out of control. There was a road block signage that blew across a major road. heavy duty dustbins dropped like bowling pins. We had to take refuge on the outside of a building' wrote mistipurple on her blog. 'I don't know how widely the winds could have travelled, but tonight for about five minutes, I experienced one of the strongest winds since returning to Singapore,' wrote blogger mis-erialc. 'In fact, I don't remember a time that we've ever experienced winds so strong. As the wind repeatedly assaulted my blinds, I couldn't help but look outside at the environmental commotion it was causing - the bending of trees, the picking up and tossing around of random objects outside.' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2007 Singapore Press Holdings. Ok details for my common room: It is fully-furnished with aircon and I am capping their utilities fees at $250; anything above will share. I also provide free wireless internet, SCV basic channels and once-a-week housekeeping services (clean room, change bedsheets, wash/iron clothes). I am asking for $900/mth, and I am already getting more than 15 calls within two days and I shown the room to more than 5 people. If nothing goes wrong I should be closing a deal with one of them at $850/mth very soon. There are alot of agents out there wanting to do quick deal. At $500-600/mth, the tenants will be banging your door to get in, so confirm can close deal on the spot at first viewing. The only problem is to convince the landlords to accept it, which is what he is trying to do to you. Some people think, hey higher rent the agents will get higher comm mah, why won't they help me get high rent?? To the agents, if I can CONFIRM close a $500 deal and get my comm quick, why should I work hard to TRY a $900 deal, which may not even happen? Its a no-brainer. But low rental, landlord suffers, and in turn they will be stingy on their services to the tenants, and they also suffers. So who's the final winner?? Agents! They will be laughing away with their easy comm! So pl don't let that happen; yes come to me if you need help on rental next time. ;P -

In this economy still can get such price, I think all of us are in good hands lah! I am putting up my common room for rental again and the demand is still quite hot. I believe the going rental rates for our estate is still between $750-950/mth, depends on your furnishings and services provided. Anyone who is keen to rent also, pls don't need to spend money go pay agents! Just the name of our estate will keep your hp ringing after you post on those rental websites. -

Haha seemed like I always advocating such things but never work out...haiz...someone support support lehh... ;P Hmmz think everyone is missing your question. I am using citygas heater and I have a rain shower in my room; no problem at all! Its more like a 'heavy drizzle', but definitely acceptable to most people. But if you got one of those power massaging rain showers, I am not sure if its gona work. -
Seller Backing Out After Otp
zirhk3355 replied to morriselma's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
What you want is really for them to sell the flat to you, not to get any compensation right? So my advice is you should be seeking legal advice at this point already, do not wait until the seller confirmed with HDB to call off the deal. By which time it will be too late and you can only seek compensation. Get a lawyer, pay a small fee and send them an aggressive letter stating your intentions, your rights, what you will be claiming, etc and demand officially (in proper legal language) that they proceed with the sale. Agents are useless from this point onwards, firstly because they are not legally trained, secondly they will be getting their commission anyway, so do you think they will have a vested interest to help you? -

Well the key word for the website is: Community. Its not about having a lot of people, but just a community of people who wana make friends with their neighbours. As for people from other estate, well there is no barring them but if our conversations are always stemmed in our estate, then they would leave quietly anyway. Topics can range from renovation, accessorizing, marriage/family-planning, cars, shopping, etc etc. Participation vs contents is always a chicken-egg story; there will only be participation if contents is interesting, but contents can only be interesting if there are various participation from everyone. So it got to start somewhere. We can print simple flyers and put it on everyone's doors (must differentiate ourselves from those usual salesman's flyers!), put up 'illegal' posters on lift lobbies, and most impt is words of mouth. Cost is not an issue at all; since its expected to be small, I can host it on my current webspace, so that leaves a small cost (less than USD10/yr) to register for a domain name, I can pay for that. We can talk later if its really grows and needs more webspace. All I need is your mandate that you will personally participate and occasionally help to spread some words of mouth. That's all. If can help in the forum or print/give out flyers, that's a bonus liao. -
Actually all agencies just cream off a certain percentage of whatever commission the agents bring back; got income better than no income right? I am quite sure no agencies would 'fix' their commission, although there is a guideline. Most of time the agents themselves will decide on the amount of commission. But agents were taught to say that "its a company's policy" instead of "I say one", so as to get themselves out of your questioning.

Its cheap, I can maintain it, and its more relevant also. Any suggestions for the website's name? www.tanglinhalt.com, www.tanglin88.com, etc?? Hehe... *enthu* -
Singapore Is World 10th Most Expensive City
zirhk3355 replied to yokine9a's topic in Men Women Kopitiam Corner!
This is sad. I don't see the point of this article at all. In any case, I don't see anything to be proud of by being ranked 15th most expensive without the exchange rates' fluctuations. Just realised the poor editor got his name quoted wrongly: Should have been Jon Copestake. http://www.eiuresources.com/mediadir/defau...Jon%20Copestake -

Are we supposed to be proud that we are all living in the 10th most expensive city in the world?? -
To be fair, at this point people who sells are desperate. No one in the right mind would be selling when the market is so bad. So its not that the sellers are unrealistic, but they are probably just desperate to recover their losses. I am more interested in this news: "The stand-off was reflected in the auction of a 7,610sqft industrial building in Paya Lebar. The opening price was $2.38 million, but the highest offer came up to only $1.8 million. The property was withdrawn from sale." Paya Lebar's industrial rent averages about $1.80psf for those with reasonable infrastructure/location, I don't think anyone is renting below $1.50psf unless its a d*mn lousy space. $1.50psf x 7,610sqft = $11K+ rental income per month. Say if the property can sell for $2mil, 90% loan will come up to about $7K+ monthly installments. $11K - $8K = a cool $4K+ revenue per month, not considering other costs. And what happens if you sell when market goes up when the economy is good?? Wow... its a rich men's playground now, indeed...

SPH is seriously trying to be funny...just look at the title and pun in this article... Is it also a coincidence that the reporter's name is not displayed... ----------- March 2, 2009 Merlion caged THE Merlion had to be 'caged'' yesterday for workers to examine the hole in its head. ---> ????? A lightning strike on Saturday had taken a chunk off its mane. The debris landed on the statue's base, cracking it. Testifying to its iconic status, the Singapore Tourism Board lost no time sending in the troops to see to the damage. ---> ????? Tourists and residents alike gawked at the 8.6m sculpture yesterday, trying to make out its injury through the mass of scaffolding. Mr Anton Johannson, 23, from Sweden, was disappointed that he could not capture the Merlion 'in action'' on camera. It had stopped spouting water. But when told of the lightning strike, he cheered up: 'Now we have a story to tell people!'' STB did not say if this was the first time the Merlion, sited at One Fullerton, had been struck by lightning and whether there was a lightning conductor nearby that could have saved it from harm. ---> ????? -------------- Copyright © 2007 Singapore Press Holdings. Will You Check On These When Buying A House?
zirhk3355 replied to Misc100's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
Sorry but I am laughing my head off at these; any buyers who do the above at my house would be shown to the door immediately. I loved this one best: Ring the doorbell...indeed! Someone who is concerned about the cost of a new doorbell is probably better off to go back and stay with parents... -
I am sorry but I duno why I find this very amusing... ---------- Feb 28, 2009 Merlion hit by lightning The Merlion suffered a large bald patch. SINGAPORE'S iconic Merlion statue, a popular tourist attraction, was damaged by lightning on Saturday afternoon during a thunderstorm, according to reports. No one was hurt. The Merlion was struck by lightning between 4 and 5 pm local time, causing parts of the statue to fall near a group of startled visitors. The 8.6 metre-tall Merlion has the head of a lion and the body and tail of a fish, and sits at the mouth of the Singapore River near the central business district. The lion head symbolises Singapore's founding by an Indonesian prince who named his new settlement after a lion he saw when he landed on the island. The body of the fish represents Singapore's origins as a fishing village. Singapore, or 'Singapura', is derived from the Sanskrit words Singa (or Lion) and Pura (City). Singapore's police could not be reached for comment while a spokesman for Singapore's information ministry said she did not have any details about the incident. -- REUTERS ---
