  1. Hey if need be can come my place to get some chairs too; also got mahjong set + table if you all keen to play!
  2. I have a red sofa sitting right in the middle of my living room. Hmmz, so far so good...hehe...*touch wood*
  3. Since you are willing to talk about it then you are not that bad lah. I agree with applefreak, the key is to forge better relationship with your PIL; that should be your first and foremost objective before you consider doing anything else. All the buying/selling/rental flats should be placed aside for the moment...
  4. Erhh, pl note that there is "renting rules" to say that its okay for you to rent out whole unit if lock one room; you are supposed to be staying there yourself. As for kitchen, seek out some carpenters directly (not IDs) and ask them to do up some basic cabinets; I dun think anyone is willing to rent a bare kitchen, or they will press your rental to very low. Spending a few thousands (maybe $1k-2k also can get? I duno...) is definitely worth it, and you can amortize the cost over the period that you want to rent out. BTW, do u mean that you want to move in 2009? Then you only got a period of 1+ yrs to rent out? So gotta act fast lor, plus must consider if the costs of doing up the flat to tenantable condition is worth it or not, after all...
  5. The best way to save money and still bring your unit up to tenantable condition is to have it partially-furnished. Kitchen cabinets are a must, together with "white goods", ie kitchen electrical appliances like washer/dryer, oven, microwave, hob & hood. You also should provide curtains/blinds and lightings - all these should not be missing, if you want to rent out fast. While aircon & water heater can be optional, they will greatly shorten your time in seeking tenants. Other items like sofa, bed & frames, wardrobes, utensils etc are usually not provided for partially-furnished units; so I suggest you do not need to buy any of them yet, unless the tenant requested for it.
  6. Draft beer taps are attached to bulky and expensive machines (kegerators) that are not practical to purchase; in Singapore, they are usually on-loan FOC by the breweries. Also, it only works with beer kegs and CO2 cylinders, ranging from sizes between 20L to 30L. As a guide, a 30L keg can dispense about 22 jugs (or 88 mugs) of beer, cost about $300+ and has a lifespan of less than two weeks; can you consume such amount within that time?? As for bar guns (dispense soft drinks), its the same; in Singapore you get it either from F&N or Yeo's. This machine is smaller because it does not cool the drinks, but you also got to purchase the CO2 and syrups that comes in BIBs (bag-in-pack). Each BIB is about $100+ per pack, which can dispense about 100+ glasses, but it has a longer lifespan of a few months. 7. If you mean to install a whole new compressor, fancoil with new pipes and ducting, of course its possible. As long as you have space to install mah. But if you are talking about converting your existing system into an inverter one, then its is not possible. The electronics, pipes and gas are all different.
  8. My point is do you think its possible; "just to spy whether their maid is working"? If they wanted to do this, then they would have installed it well before the maid arrives mah, not halfway thru the employment. Also, why is the camera facing the baby cot and sarong? You mean the maid was employed solely to take care of the baby only, not to do other housework? Or are they already suspicious of something that they are not telling? Ok let me put it very bluntly: Could it be that the couple had done something towards the maid, guilty conscience, suspect that the maid might take revenge, so they put a camera to watch her, then end up zhun-zhun saw the maid abusing the baby?? Haha...I am just being my usual sensitive self and babbling...dun mind me...
  9. Ok lah, back to topic... This reminds me of my initial suspicion: If there is no injuries, and the maid was all nice and delicate in front of the employers, why did they suddenly go install a hidden camera?? I mean if they had no other 'motives', they would have installed it well before the maid arrives, and not half-way-thru 'suddenly' decide like, "Hey darling, I am just curious ya'know...let's see what the maid doing at home without us...ya'know, candid camera, just for fun, want??" Cannot be, right??

  11. To all Tanglin Halt neighbours!! (I think this is what most Singaporeans will need in 2008...hehe)
  12. What happens if your husband is working as a cleaner earning $800 per month, can you give up your job? What happens for those whose husband is sick, in jail, etc and unable to work? What happens for those who are divorcee or widow, and your job is the sole source of income for the family? And also many other circumstances; I am just naming the more extreme ones... Thus I think that's the 'luck' she is referring to...there isn't much of a choice, is there?
  13. I think the article says "IF..." IMO there is no across-board FS advice for everyone; what's good for you may be bad for me, depends on our elements. For eg my FSM says our red sofa is good for wifey and me... If so easy can apply across-board, then FSM no need to "tan-jiak" liao...

  15. Hey guys, thousands of apologies; I really screwed up this time. Not to hide from you all, but I totally forgotten that 15th Feb 08 is my company's D&D. Attendance is compulsory... Ok for our Lou Hei, if you all had already made arrangements for 15th Feb 08, I would try my best to arrange for an alternative venue. But if you all want to change the date, also can, however my flat would not be available on 16th and 17th Feb 08, so also need to find an alternative venue. Pl let me know your preferences so that I will make the arrangements. Currently our good neighbours jule, cartoon-wayne and sakae sushi are assisting in this. This is the spirit of Tanglin Halt at work!! You see, there is no chairman or whatever lah (pl stop calling me that!! Hehe...), really touched that when something screwed up, those that I approached are ever-ready to help! *cry* Appreciated all the support and my apologies again...
  16. You are right. There must be two sides to this story; we are only hearing the parents' side. Being optimistic and believing that nobody is borned bad, something must have triggered the maid to behave like that. But of course there is no justifications at all for a 2-mth baby to be abuse in this way...
  17. I am most disturbed by the part where the maid swing the sarong cradle towards the wooden chair at the dining table, knocking the head against it. Also, no prize for guessing if the maid will be sent to jail or be charged for abuse. Given the good police force we have in Singapore, my policy is always "All offenders will be dealt with severely. If lucky, you will be handed over to the police".
  18. I agree. Separate the two matters now; finish up the house, and settle the problem with the contractor later.
  19. I used to go this way to work, but its very jammed. After the u-turn and pass by the police special operations command (riots troop, or 'ang chia') then turn left towards jln bt merah, the whole stretch until queensway shopping centre is jammed. Plus the bus lane is very strictly enforced; there is always a cisco cameraman standing outside the shell petrol kiosk, opp the new queesnway neighbourhood police centre cum fire station.
  20. What about going down the tunnel towards farrer, then u-turn at holland road, come back to ridout garden mcdonalds and turn left into margaret dr? Any erp?
  21. Ya reported in the news yesterday. The employer even said that the maid was very nice and delicate in front of them!!
  22. Can't believe that I missed this. If you had not confirmed your country-style, do check out a shop at Thomson Plaza, 2nd floor near KFC. I saw that it really got authentic country-style kitchens. Duno the name or tel though, you got to find out. My parents' place also look abit like country-style, with the brown floor tiles, faded wall tiles and rosewood cabinets. If you want I can ask them for the contacts for your consideration...
  23. Yeah there is always a starting point mah; its hard to take the first step, in fact when we started, the group didn't know one another also! Most of us known each other for like less than a few months...
  24. Hi hi, would you like to join us for the CNY lou hei?? Some of us also will be starting reno after CNY, can exchange some pointers mah...
