  1. wah welcome frankly we were still thinking about using those electric mini grills at the balcony....but if the walls black black - this part we stop thinking liao
  2. call CASE first lor before your final decision. hmm..near ikea...let me guess - the firm that looks more like a roti prata shop?
  3. for making "islands" in kitchen, if you believe in FS, then consult a FSM. if you dont believe, then nothing bad exists lor.
  4. T5 is also a flourescent lamp(tube). T5 is more energy efficient than T8. for energy saving - look at their energy efficiency, the higher the better.
  5. you sure you gonna paint your whole house RED?
  6. energy saving bulbs are not dim, except for those no name brands. Go for either osram or philips, nothing else. If you want bright bright types, go for those "curled" bulb, philips called them TORNADO, they are very bright! no worries, for fluroscent, get them to change the ballast to electronic ballast($12-$35). save a lot of electricity.
  7. flygal - next time dont use 2ndhand old aircon or 2nd old fridge. they drink electricity like goldfish. I used to have a OLD LG fridge - after retiring it, my PUB bill went down $40!! this is the real WOW !
  8. then i think we are talking about the same one. chai tow kuey have or not i donno. just add 2-3 inches to both ends - 118cm + 4-6 inches.
  9. this is the stupid thing about why this country is focusing on academic results. A person good in his academic studies doesnt always means he got COMMON SENSE. Just look at those in HDB - cats not allowed cos they are NOMADIC animals - they didnt even bother to ask the pros in Mandai Zoo. Or the LTA who once replied to an article in ST forum a few years back, that FOG lights would blind the car driver in front. If osama were to hijack a plane or plant a bomb, what kind of building do you think he would prefer? a HDB flat? Or the Istana? Or Parliament House? Osama may be crazy, but he is NOT DUMB or IQ zero. was told EM was hot...especially for 2nd time home owners, now even my colleague is buying a EM.
  10. I have many reasons to believe who is the culprit for your high bills. 1) your dog always switch on the aircon and turn it to MAX when no one is around. 2) your rabbit keeps opening/closing the fridge thinking it's a magic box - cos sometime open got carrot one.
  11. apart from the casing - go for 12V halogen - another type of lamp also looks like halogen but it's using 230v - more energy consuming. Most salesman will tell you all same same halogen. I believe the 230v ones got a different name. 12V halogen lamp 's 2 "legs" are just 2 sharp pins. the other type(230v) the 2 "legs" got a tiny round stub. I even went to osram distri to buy the special DecorStar-IRC halogen lamp(energy saving halogen). But it costs $8 bucks each
  12. when it comes to HTS, yamaha is king. Except for Pro concert/cinema/stadiums then you need to get JBL(cheapest is 5 figures)
  13. since your chair SOUNDed simple. RAPID stapler gun = $35.00 (dont buy those below $20 cheapo stapler - you will cry) Box of staples = $2-3.00 Fabric depends on what type you want - kallang(near the old wen hua cinema) they got all kinds of fabric/pvc/leather..etc selling by the yard. ask any old uncle or auntie for directions - old wen hua cinema, very famous during their times.
  14. got 2 famous wanton noodles in joochiat leh - NOT the cmi FEI FEI. the other one is in a run-down kopi tiam with a small road to a dead end, near school i think. just walk across from the kopitiam continue down the stretch of old old shops, sure can see the plumber supply shop. measure the width of your windows and then add 2-3 inches to both ends. FYI, those thin thin stainless steel curtain rod costs at least $200 for just 1x 4 panel window.
  15. tim, auspicious date depends on the birthdate(bazi) of both you and your wife. It might be a good day but it does not refer to EVERYBODY. get a FSM, dont anyhow pick dates from the internet, unless the website requires you to key in both of your BAZI.
  16. I am using scissors gate cos we didnt want our gate to look like everyone else's. Maximum security - nobody can cut thru. not much worries about fire, cos we got the windows on the corridor + balcony + 2ndflr. My whole house is installed with exhaust ventilator(good against smokes). 2 small ones in toilets + 1 big one in kitchen. Since you are worried on security+ fire, just install any ordinary wrought iron gate will do. One thing about FIRE-rated door most pple didnt realise is - the door KILLs you instead of helping you. Cos if your front door area(inside house) burns, the fire rated door will seal itself up....good for those outside the house cos the fire is contained(wont spread smoke + fire) but pple inside leh? You will have to jump out of the window. Some would argue that the fire brigade is very efficient in sg but in most fire cases, 90% of victims got killed by the smoke, not fire burnt. Some paranoids rich pple even go and install on their bedroom doors. God bless them!
  17. since you are still in planning stage - PLAN MORE energy saving bulbs! or 12V halogen lamps(they are energy saving too) I think you know mine is a mansionette - but electric bill(not including others) is around $32-$35 per mth nia. Around $1.00 - $1.20 per day (got a few lights need to be ON 24x7)
  18. roller shutters - the big problem most pple face is the long big BOX for the roller(installed above the door). quite out of the way for most HDB houses. tampines good price leh.
  19. my block current status 4th flr - $370k+ 2nd flr - $350k+ 2nd flr - $390k+
  20. if you can find SMOKELESS charcoal let me us know hor i jjust buy charcoal from provision shops...
  21. got my pipes cutted to length at tembeling road/street(joo chiat), there is one main supplier of plumbing wares. comes in I think 20ft or 18ft for around $18-$25. they will sell you one whole piece, cut to whatever size, leftovers you take home. after that just ask patrick to drill holes and fix the rod for you.
