  1. Hi purplegiraffe. I'm looking forward to see the finished product of your reno! Not trying to dissuade you but just wanted to share my recent experience with Miele. My Miele washing machine died 3 months ago after just 4 years. For something that we paid close to $4K for, we'd expected a little longer life expectancy out of the washer. However what really turned us off was the fact that the earliest we could get an appointment with their technician to come down to check, not repair, was 2 weeks later. After that we'd still need to wait maybe another week for the parts, which we were told could cost up to $700. On top of that we'd still have to pay for the labour of the technician. I'm not sure about you but we couldn't live without a washer for 3 weeks, even though there's a laundromat 2 blocks away from our place so we went to Harvery Norman and bought a new one. Maybe it is just the luck of the draw or maybe we didn't use it with enough care (with 2 toddlers, sometimes you find things in the wash that shouldn't be in there) but after this experience, we just felt that we had paid an inflated price for some marketing spiel. At the end of the day though, as long as you are happy with what you bought, that is all that matters.

  7. Received the info! Thanks! Well, i used my Samsung washer for close to 4 years and it didn't give me any problems. But I can't say if it will last another 4 years since i sold it off before i moved back. i believe all washers now have pre-programmed cycles for gentle washing, but i suppose nothing beats washing by hand!
  8. Hi Pinkwhale, You have a very nice house there! The finishing of the whole place looks quite good. Would you mind sharing your contractor's contact with me please? i also used to use a front load Samsung washing machine when i was living in Sydney. Although mine had a maximum rpm of 800 only, it also shook and vibrate whenever it went into it's spin cycle. The shaking and vibration were more "violent" if the laundry got tangled up into balls (especially when we used laundry bags and they all got entangled in the middle and the clothes got forced into balls at the ends of the bags by the centrifugal force). i guess that's why miele's washing machine is being sold at a premium because it has a cast iron structure to house the drum so that the whole washer is stable and won't shake or vibrate and hence will be quiet too. loob
