  1. daikin sys-4 non-inverter MA56 / FT50 / 3 x FT25 is less than $3k... coollser** quoting $2,653.60...
  2. ok, i got it... L-box, false ceiling, living/dining/bedroom ceiling and wall: water-based sealer (1 coat) + 2 coats of paint kitchen and toilet ceiling: oil-based sealer (1 coat) + 2 coats of paint thanks!
  3. hi bullet, thanks... so, actually dun need oil-based sealer for L-box and false ceiling rite?? cos living room not wet area mah... just need the usual water-based sealer rite?? for toilet and kitchen ceiling, i should request for oil-based sealer for the ceiling, izzit? thanks again!
  4. one ID quoted me this item, $250... another ID din quote me this item... i asked him why... he said dun need, waste money only... so izzit need or dun need???
  5. thanz for the photos! btw, was there a change in the construction contractor mid-way thru' the building process??? cos the membina estate was originally slated to be ready by end 2006, but got delayed until end 2007... the kallang bahru SERS also met this delay before and was due to the original contractor went bankrupt, so HDB gotta tender for another contractor to take over...
  6. autosensing means the dryer will stop automatically when the clothes are dried...
  7. hi h4happy! thanks for these photos! i regret not taking photos of the construction site when it was just starting up... can i use ur photos on my renoblog?? thanks!
  8. another purpose is that a raised base will be less dusty cos dirt/dust on the floor will not be blown easily onto the raised base... the cost of constructing a cement base w tiles is about $80-100 for w/m and the same for fridge... typically the base is 80 x 80cm... for w/m, this is sufficient cos w/m size is usually abt 60 x 60cm... for fridge, u may request for a bigger base say 100 x 100cm w/o additional charge... depends on ur contractor/ID though...
  9. got reviews that the manual knob quite easily spoilt.... personally i had used it for abt a year when i stayed in a rented flat... seemed ok, never give problem... the price for the ED56 is abt the same (on the cheaper side) than the citygas dryer, which is also autosensing... maybe can consider it...
  10. hi h4happy, "crazycar" is the person who met this ID... i merely commented on crazycar's post...
  11. this is ridiculous! the ID suggesting to hack the wall to change the concealed pipes! he doesn't even know that for new flats, there is a 3-yr restriction period during which hacking of toilet wall and floor tiles is prohibited! he is just pulling a fast one for sure... dishonest ID/contractor ***Quote from HDB RenoGuide**** http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10205p.nsf/WP...Menu=Guidebooks Removal of toilet wall tiles is not allowed during first three years upon completion of block. Removal of toilet floor tiles is not allowed during first three years upon completion of block. ********
  12. hi h4happy... the flats in our estate have concealed hot and cold water pipes... bathrooms come with mixer taps and shower heads...
  13. i agree that Citygas should justify such seemingly unreasonable and "hidden" charges... LPG too has its "hidden" charges if the LPG tank is stored inside the kitchen cabinet... an LPG tank takes up about one foot of kitchen cabinet space, and one foot of kitchen cabinet typically costs $70-$100 to fabricate, and if it comes with a solid surface worktop, add another $70-$100... hence, $140-$200 is the "hidden" cost to store the LPG tank...
  14. a comment in HWZ forum on the hitachi 9500: *** http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread....age=1&pp=15 Another common thing lots of people get suckered into A fairly popular brand of TVs claims to be 1080 due to a ALIS technology Actually it uses alternating displays of 540 lines to achieve this. There are reports of flicker, but if you don't see them, the price for this brand is pretty VFM. *** i can't find from the specs anything that mention abt this leh... any expert here to comment??
  15. Imagine if it had been a faulty LPG tank that was leaking... perhaps the consequences are likely to be more severe like in the Bt Merah flat case... there are pros and cons with both LPG and Citygas... as long as we know them and make an informed decision, either choice can be suitable...
  16. the recent big blast at Bt Merah flat was caused by LPG gas... LPG gas is heavier than air, and hence if leak, will sink to the floor and could accumulate quickly to dangerous quantity inside the flat because the LPG cannot escape via the opened windows (window is at least 1 m above floor)... there will be a powerful blast if ignited... in contrast, piped gas is lighter than air, and will float towards the ceiling and could escape via the opened windows... as long as windows are opened, it is not likely the leaked piped gas could accumulate to dangerous quantity inside the flat... in this respect, piped gas is safer than LPG gas...
  17. INCOME mortgage policy needs only to pay for 75% of the mortgage term... for 30-yr mortgage, premium term is 22 years... yes, cash only...
  18. for those taking HDB loan, anyone thinking of taking mortgage insurance from private insurer??? seems that NTUC Income mortgage insurance is cheaper than HPS leh... for 30-year mortgage, the premiums for both are about the same, but for INCOME, need to pay for only 22 years whereas HPS need to pay for 27 years! furthermore, the INCOME premium rate is guaranteed meaning it will not be changed in the future...
  19. HDB will give it to you for free when u book the flat... if u have lost it, u can buy it at $5 per copy from HDB... just call up the HDB officer-in-charge of ur sales or the general hotline number...
  20. got other brands also: powerdekor flimafor premier wiparquet acewood kronfix kronospan in terms of popularity, kronotex, supreme and powerdekor seem to be the more popular one... in terms of price, for the same quality of laminate, almost the same price between these three, maybe powerdekor is cheaper cos made in china... supreme is made in malaysia... kronotex dun know made in where, but their high end ones come direct from germany, v exp... in terms of quality, maybe also abt the same if talking abt laminates of abt the same price... compare apple to apple.... in terms of after sales service, supreme got quite good reputation... dun know abt powerdekor and kronotex... maybe the main diff between them is the choice of color and patterns... get ur ID to show u their catalogues...
  21. but there was a discount given for opting out the doors... i think abt $1500 for 5 doors, or abt $300 per door...
  22. the sales pple at hafari explained to me that homogeneous tile is porcelain tiles and is different from ceramic tile... porcelain tiles are fired at a much higher temperature (think 800-1000 deg celcius) than ceramic tiles (abt 400-500 deg celcius) and hence, porcelain tiles are much tougher than ceramic tiles.... as explained by other forumers, homogeneous tiles are full-bodied meaning the patterns and colors are throughout the entire body... thus if a homo tile is chipped, it will not be obvious since the underlying layer has the same pattern and color as the surface.... however, if ceramic tiles are chipped, it is v obvious becos the underylying layer has a different color (usually red) from the surface... there is another type of homogeneous with texture e.g. wood grains... for these tiles, the patterns are only on the surface, but the color is full-bodied...
  23. wah, the engineering floor v ex leh... i think almost the same price as doing tiles... but it looks v good with the groove lines and the texture... but dun know whether easy to maintain or not... laminates is smooth and no groove line, so won't trap dirt, easy to maintain...
  24. ya, can't wait to get my hands on the 9500, but my new flat not ready yet... gotta wait till november then can move in... hopefully the price can drop somemore
