hi sorry, how about this layout? can advise if the stove and sink can be in one line or not? now big big headache coz heard that sink and stove cannot be in a line thank you so much
-
not getting a hood coz heard from friends who has it that it's not of much use for asian cooking anyway... didn't want the stove to be in the same line that's why doing an L-shaped concrete support. not changing the kitchen flooring so the sink will have to be around the same area. but the space under the window too small for the sink depending on what the contractors advice bah, if the concept is a no go then will think of something else. actually thinking of the cut-out from the granite top to become the back splash but see how first loh. tempered glass not supposed to shatter right? kiddy palace is where ah? will go check the place out.

hi, have opened the doors liao now waiting for hdb to finish rectification any advice on when i should start reno and when is a good time to move in? likely moving date should be in jun or jul. thanks.

thanks so much for the ideas. must put them on my to-do list any idea where i can find practical night lights? those i manage to find is either not environmentally friendly i.e. the bulb cannot be changed, if spoilt must throw the whole thing away or the bulb is not easy to find kind. remember philips used to have it, but dun know where got sell small reason why we are moving coz current home MBR got no toilet so at night they go toilet got to navigate through the kitchen... as for the tall cabinet, it's solely for the purpose of storage coz no top cabinet or storage under the sink/hob. no oven for me coz doing mostly asian cooking... will be building concrete support for the sink and stove so no doors for me, part of the reason why the kitchen is positioned in such an odd way (so that pple coming through the front door won't see the clutter) those black thick lines on the walls are actually power sockets dun want to shift them so will just arrange in such a way that the fridge is near one the black lines around the stove will be tempered glass, acting like a backsplash... was toying with the idea of constructing a concrete stool at the shower area but my mum say she will sit on the WC to shower coz scared the stool will move then she fall down. saw a wall-mounted S/S foldable stool for bathroom but can't seem to find it around jln besar. anyone saw it anywhere?

hi me also thinking of getting granite worktop currently still looking for contractor if you can get cheaper let me know then i ask my contractor install for me btw, anyone using the granite cut-out to become the backsplash? or make it into a table or something???

Is Quotation Ok For New Standard 5 Room - 115 Sq M?
applefreak replied to mint's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
one of the ID actually told me that they won't change all the pipes, they will just replace the exposed pipes so those concealed will still be PVC. actually just extend the inlet/outlet enough liao as for the concealed drainage pipes, it will depend large where you are putting your sink if it's right above the 'designated' area, then no need. but if you are going to put your sink far far away from the spot, then you got to conceal the pipe under the flr tiles liao. imagine the water pipe running across your kitchen floor the kitchen cabinet also very expensive some place offering $888 for the 20ft with the standard ABS blah blah stuff if you take up their reno package -
storeberry, i meant the light cover is plastic initially wanted to get glass coz won't turn yellow over the years but the price difference really... the uncle told us the bulb is less than $10 for the 21watt ones maybe will drop by tomorrow to see if the aluminium contractors have started work we were there on sunday but nothing yet so most prob she just said it to pacify me but must give it to her coz i called on friday and she returned my call on monday morning quite set on granite sink liao, given that it's not prone to scratches or chips but the mounting would be quite a headache coz want one that has giant bowls so that it'll be easier to wash my wok. those with big bowls doesn't come with draining plate so must undermount the sink. dun know if the contractor can do for me or not most prob getting granite top for my concrete support coz it's not much more expensive than corian top
-
new kitchen layout (hopefully will be the final one) anyone can advise if undermount granite sink goes well with granite kitchen top?
-
really hope that Ng will finish your place for you by this week so that your reno can finally start. i got my keys a month later than you so means my place will only be done up a month later from now me had wanted to take the showflat coz wanted to save on reno, all can pay by cpf mah but alas, both were taken by the time i decide to apply for SK had wanted to do so in the oct WIS but suay suay on the day it was announced my chicken pox came out oh dear oh dear can someone knock my head hard hard? was pondering over the granite sink and suddenly it occurred to me to get granite worktop as well... then the thought start to float towards granite flooring as well, but guess budget can't make it... any idea what is the price difference between 1sqf of ceramic, homogeneous and granite tiles?
-
just received a call from my TO. she said that she has arranged the aluminium contractor to go down and rectify the aluminium works. requested her to inform me when she will go down to do the inspection so that i can go down with her. whew, guess might still make it before seventh month keeping my fingers crossed...

The Ceiling Fan Debate
applefreak replied to reload72's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
sorry but the fanimation ones look rather similar to some i've seen at the elmark showroom... maybe i didn't really get a good look coz only looking for a five blade 54" black wooden blade fan with lights to match my dining table... http://www.amasco.com.sg/amasco/index.php (the tulip fan is there under 'Blossom') but read in singaporebrides that ceiling fan no good for fengshui leh now dun know to get or not -
guess i was very ngeow coz dun want to spend too much on lights feel the money can be better spent elsewhere guess the bulk of my reno cost will be the kitchen - dream kitchen where i can whip up delicious meals for my loved one. as it is, taking orders from my parents when they have the urge to eat something specific didn't get any toilet acc from nan wah coz dun like chrome also dun need anything except the mirror, towel bar and toilet roll holder will be getting S/S ones for both toilets just realised that my kitchen measurements was wrong - short by 1/2 m! and the yard is bigger than i remembered so will be putting the dryer in the yard afterall side by side with the washer then i can have a much longer work-top changed my mind again about the sink coz saw some 'granite' sinks which are quite nice and affordable - plado at $280 the proprietor also solved my problem of getting a sink without drainer, he actually showed me how his sink behind the shop is built so that water from the worktop can flow directly into the inset sink... very nice man, same dialect with me somemore. most prob will go back to him for the sink - if i can decide finally to get granite that is good news that brightened up my day! my mum has kindly agreed to top up the difference between my budget and the actual cost. hurray!

my TO is the same as bluberi one monday morning will call her to ask when she going down to check will take leave and check with her went down today and took a good look at where bluberi found her cracked tile me has that too! it's where the water pipe runs from the yard not working at tg pagar but around the area so went there for lunch the lady at kittyland already know me so she will keep the kuromi stuff for me just got back from nan wah, paid a total of $326.28 for 11 lights, all with plastic cover. sorry forgot to take photo coz in a rush 6 no. of 21w for 2 toilets, yard, passageway, outside common toilet and balcony 2 no. of 40w for kitchen and MBR 3 no. of 62w for living and study - it's with one 40w and one 22w bulb for each light so if you take one white and one yellow, you can have white, yellow or white & yellow lights although it's plastic cover, find that it's really worth the price coz the money saved can be better spent somewhere. most important to me is that the lights must be BRIGHT BRIGHT most prob will top-up to change to homo tiles coz my mum dun want white tiles and the ceramic ones are really slippery
-
ah kiat - guess it's a girl thing, just like boys with toys bah the clock and the tissue holder will be in my room my room will be the kuromi room oh dear, that's bad. that'll mean i have to hound the poor girl day and night to make sure that all rectifications be done by apri !! initially thought no place for the dryer at the yard but went down again today and realised that the spot for my washing machine is quite big so will be putting the dryer there the washer will be moved to the end, right under the future windows went down to nan wah and almost got all my lights liao got matching covers for the lights for MBR and MBR bath, one big one small with the same design got another set of matching cover, three small one big for the kitchen area. big one for the kitchen, small one for toilet, yard and the walkway these six lights cost me $125 and comes with energy saving bulbs installation charges are $35 for first light and $8 for subsequent ones free delivery for orders above $300 i'll see if i can find cheaper contractors to do the installation or not tomorrow will be going down to buy the lights for the living room and study. will most prob be getting those with two light bulbs, one yellow and one white. will take photos of them and post it up when i go down tomorrow. btw the sale ends tomorrow the spending has begun! as for the clock, i bought it together with the tissue box at kittyland located at level 3 of Amara hotel arcade, tanjong pagar

my wall tiles are okay, all looks quite new to me leh maybe bcoz of the shine bah think they went in to check see what needs to be done but the grouting between the wall tiles are dusted with white powder floor tiles cannot make it one, uneven and stained badly bought somethings i like for my room. hehehe some more kitchen layout, please give me your comments entrance from main door on left, exit to yard on right and lower right is to toilet and passageway
-
ummm makes me wonder... my neighbour told us that a few months ago got contractors do work in the unit leh but apparently the tiles are not changed. wonder what they did inside... only things i am sure is that the wall are quite newly painted, the kitchen tiles looks new too. bluberi, check with you ah, the kitchen tiles are the same ones ah? how about the toilets? sure they didn't change the floor tiles, the windows or the balcony doors what exactly did they do in the unit??? dun tell me upstairs leak water so they had to do works in my unit
-
called my hdb techinical oic today but she's on course no idea if she even went down to take a look or not will try to call her again on monday to ask when she's going down most prob will take half day and go down with her i think the forummer actually live directly upstairs from me but her study's wall is missing... or she had it hacked away before HDB did the rectification??? so your floors hacked and relaid liao? did you top up or accept the white tiles? if i top up means got to fork out another 1k for the tiles ummm... now in many minds about how i want my kitchen to look will post some simple draft that i have came up for the kitchen when i get home
-
wonder how much they will charge to change the tiles to matt homo ones... it's not so much the colour but my parents are not really very young so there's a risk of them falling down, which is something i intend to prevent with no efforts spared installing grip bars in the MBR toilet, no top cabinet in the kitchen, minimum furniture - these are the things that i will do. any other things i can do to make my home safer? please let me know so that i can include them in my quote
-
guess it looks big coz it's empty once we move in think it'll be a very different story bluberi, guess the contractors did a not so bad job no hollow tiles but the tiles are badly stained and there was a long black patch right next to the balcony door, the length of the balcony door sliding track gonna make a lot of noise and ask them to change it to matt ones that day my father almost fell when we were washing the floor
-
Thanks everyone it's an EA in SK, vacant for six, seven years liao not starting reno anytime soon coz got to wait for HDB to finish rectification first. will be checking out the Modern Living fair at Expo to get more ideas. may end up getting a contractor

The Ceiling Fan Debate
applefreak replied to reload72's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
just return from the elmark showroom yesterday evening they have quite a variety of ceiling fan there there's one that may save the design dilemma - it looks like an inverted tulip when switched off and the plastic blade will raise when you turn it on... very cool and nice -
thank you thank you got to wait for HDB to finish rectification first dun know whether they even went down to see the defects yet or not good also, more time to save money hehehe
-
hello everyone. got my keys on 5 Mar some photos to start the ball rolling view from corridor view from front door view of kitchen from living view of dining from living MBR my bedroom view of kitchen from dining MBR toilet Common toilet yard view of kitchen from yard view of dining from passageway the study more of kitchen tiles my kitchen tiles Just handed over the defects list to HDB on 12 Mar Hopefully they will take a look this week and start the rectification within this month. The list just goes on... Imagine, holes all over the walls and water mark from ceiling to floor in the HHS!

think my budget is quite low coz moving a lot of things from my current home my whole family is moving together and selling the current flat. most important thing is the flat must be elderly friendly so things like top cabinet, L-box, feature wall etc is out (my dad does the cleaning so must make it easy for him) main two things that takes the bulk of the budget is actually the kitchen and the grilles. others are labour to install things like lights, bathroom accessories etc only... tv, washer all have liao so no need to buy. save quite a bit there... might be giving ho bee a call later, got the contact from one of the fellow forummers but still will be checking out the modern home exhibition to see if can get any ideas went down to wihardja and saw quite a lot of display going at unbelievable low price, might be buying some things from there. saw a nonya-style mirror (framed in solid teak wood window frame) going at $59, but someone beat me to it will go down again to take a good long look over the weekend. it's at 175 Ubi Ave 4 Pan Malayan Warehse incase anyone of you interested...

Things Needed To Start Discussion With Id/contractor?
applefreak replied to wainism's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
yes forgot to mention, i send all of them the same list asking for itemised pricing so that i can remove those i find expensive or retain those i find the pricing reasonable...
